India Gazette12-06-2025
Ramban (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 12 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Police attached the property of a terrorist trying to spread cross-border terrorism in the Banihal area, SSP Kulbir Singh said.
SSP Kulbir Singh appealed to the youth to control their social media activity and asked them not to access websites that spread anti-national and anti-social activities.
'A crackdown is ongoing in which a legal action is being taken against the terrorists trying to spread cross-border terrorism, and the property in their name is also being seized... The 9th such case occurred in Banihal, where a property was attached. This is against a militant sitting across the border trying to spread terrorism... The public also participates actively in this... I want to appeal to youth to control their social media activity... 'Do not assess websites that spread anti-national and anti-social activities; otherwise, we will take strict legal action,' Singh said on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, a high-level security meeting chaired by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur, Amod Ashok Nagpure, IPS, was held to review preparations and strategise for the smooth conduct of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, 2025, officials said.
The meeting was attended by Additional SP Udhampur, SDPOs, DySPs, and SHOs from Udhampur, Majalta, Rehambal, and Chenani, along with other officers involved in the Yatra arrangements.
The discussions centred on key aspects such as security arrangements, intelligence sharing, traffic management, medical aid, emergency response, and logistical support.
Special focus was laid on anti-narcotics operations. SSP Nagpure directed all officers to remain vigilant and conduct proactive drives to dismantle narco networks operating in the region.
He also instructed officers to maintain a high level of alertness and operational readiness throughout the Yatra. Regular review meetings, briefing sessions, and mock drills were stressed to ensure the flawless implementation of all plans and protocols, officials said.
The Amarnath Yatra is an annual Hindu pilgrimage to the sacred Amarnath Cave Shrine, dedicated to Lord Shiva, located at an altitude of about 3,888 metres in the Himalayas of Jammu and Kashmir (J-K).
A week earlier, Jammu and Kashmir (J-K) Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat chaired a joint meeting with officers from the Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) at Police Control Room Kashmir to review the security arrangements for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2025, Eid-Ul-Adha and other upcoming events. Sports Bill will result in extreme centralisation of sports administration, says Congress

The Congress on Tuesday (August 12, 2025) slammed the government for "bulldozing" the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025 through the Lok Sabha and claimed that the legislation will result in the "extreme centralisation" of sports administration. Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh alleged that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will get the most favoured treatment, not subject to any laws of the land like the RTI. "The National Sports Governance Bill, 2025 was bulldozed through the Lok Sabha yesterday and will perhaps be subject to the same treatment in the Rajya Sabha today," he said on X. On Monday (August 11, 2025), the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports Digvijaya Singh had written to the Lok Sabha Speaker requesting that the Bill be referred to the Committee for deeper examination and wider consultations. "That is what such Committees are for. However, the Modi government— as has happened so very frequently in the past— ignored this perfectly legitimate request," Mr. Ramesh said. "The Bill will result in the extreme centralisation of sports administration. And, of course, the BCCI will get the most favoured treatment, not subject to any laws of the land like the RTI," he said. The long-awaited National Sports Governance Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha here on Monday with Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya describing it as the "single biggest reform in Indian sports since independence", amid Opposition protests over revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. The National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill was also passed in the Lok Sabha. Amid the din, the Bills were passed by a voice vote.

War of words breaks out between CPI(M), Church leadership in Kerala over ‘Sangh Parivar affinity'

A bitter war of words has broken out between the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] and certain entities in the Church leadership in Kerala. The current battle centres around the CPI(M)'s repeated accusation that certain bishops broadcast a predilection towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while 'expediently turning a blind eye to' spiralling attacks against Christians and the clergy by Hindu right-wing organisations in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled States in north India. CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan singled out Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplany of Thalassery for criticism at a public meeting in Thaliparambu on Monday (August 11, 2025). Mr. Govindan said he was intentionally naming Bishop Pamplany to spotlight the prelate's 'vacillating positions' vis-à-vis the Sangh Parivar. He stated that Bishop Pamplany mooted a rethink of the Church's relationship with the Central government after 'the Sangh Parivar-controlled BJP government' in Chhattisgarh arrested and incarcerated two Kerala nuns after Bajrang Dal activists accused them of human trafficking for conversion to Christianity. 'When the court belatedly released the nuns on bail, the Bishop praised Modi and Shah, conveniently papering over the BJP's culpability in the nuns' ordeal', he stated. Mr. Govindan alleged that Church representatives went with cakes to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office in Kannur. 'Such brazen opportunism does not augur well for secularism, democracy or minority rights,' he said. Earlier, Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) State secretary V.K. Sanoj said 'the fate of Martin Niemöller' awaited Bishop Pamplany. He said the German protestant pastor and self-declared anti-semite backed Adolf Hitler, only to be jailed by the Nazi leader after the priest served the fascist regime's purpose. Bishop Pamplany's expression of gratitude to the Centre had come in for sharp reactions on social media platforms, with the netizens pooh-poohing the gesture using memes and satirical remarks. Last week, CPI(M) leader and former Minister A.K. Balan had accused Bishop Pamplany of pursuing a transactional mode of politics by promising the BJP a parliamentary toehold in Kerala if the Centre raised the floor price of rubber to ₹300 per kg in the run-up to the 2024 General Elections. Thalassery Archdiocese pushes back Meanwhile, the Thalassery Archdiocese has pushed back firmly. In a statement, the bishopric termed Mr. Govindan's words 'second-rate.' It said Bishop Pamplany did not require 'AKG Centre's writ' to expound the Church's position. The Church had ignored the DYFI's attempt to disparage the prelate. However, attacks against the Bishop had escalated, it pointed out. The Archdiocese said the Bishop had thanked parties across the political spectrum, including the Central government, for their respective interventions to 'ensure justice' for the nuns. 'Opportunism has become a byword for Mr. Govindan's political vacillations. His condemnable statements have exposed the party secretary's fascist nature. Mr. Govindan's distortion of the Bishop's words is aimed at putting the Chief Minister and CPI(M) on the defensive', the bishopric stated.

Ek Ke Baad Ek BrahMos Chalega: Mithun Chakraborty Hits Back At Bilawal Bhutto's War Threat To India

Actor-turned-Bharatiya Janata Party leader Mithun Chakraborty on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's recent warning to India, stating that if such remarks continue and India loses its temper, BrahMos missiles will be launched one after another. Mocking Bhutto, Chakraborty said India has even thought of building a dam where 140 crore people would pee, and once the dam is opened, it would trigger a tsunami. Chakraborty clarified that he has nothing against the people of Pakistan, emphasising that his comments were directed solely at Bilawal Bhutto. "Agar aisi baatein karte rahenge aur hamari khopdi sanak gayi toh phir ek ke baad ek BrahMos chalega. We have also thought of building a dam where 140 crore people will pee. After that, we will open the dam, and a tsunami will occur. I have nothing against the people of Pakistan. I have said all of this for him (Bilawal Bhutto)," ANI quoted Mithun Chakraborty as saying.
