Oklahoma Sooners earn commitment from 2026 4-Star TE Tyler Ruxer

Yahoo08-07-2025
The Oklahoma Sooners added another blue-chip prospect to their 2026 recruiting class, picking up a commitment from four-star tight end Tyler Ruxer on Monday evening.
Ruxer is the No. 9 tight end in the 2026 class, according to On3. The Sooners beat out West Virginia, Duke, and Northwestern. Out of Lincoln City, Indiana, the 6-foot-4, 220-pound tight end also held offers from Power Four programs like Baylor, Cincinnati, Houston, Iowa, Louisville, Minnesota, and Purdue.

He's the second tight end added to the 2026 class after Ryder Mix committed back in June of 2024. But the Sooners need help at tight end. It's been a position that hasn't produced to expectations the last two seasons and has had a number of their young players battle injuries.
Ruxer adds a dynamic receiving threat to the Sooners' offense. He played wide receiver for Heritage Hills, so he'll need to make the transition to playing in-line at the traditional tight end spot. But he's a good route runner and displays the ability to make plays down the field. Ruxer shows off the kind of speed that will challenge linebackers in the middle of the field and will help stretch the defense vertically. That speed allows him to be a threat after the catch. According to his Hudl profile, he accounted for 43 receptions for 893 yards and 12 touchdowns.

DaRon Bland hopes for contract extension before Week 1

The Cowboys are not in talks with star edge rusher Micah Parsons, but they apparently are with cornerback DaRon Bland. Bland said Tuesday his representation has had "some talks" about an extension with the team. He hopes for a deal before the season. "I do, but I'm not here to talk about it really too much," Bland said, via Tommy Yarrish of the team website. "But yeah, hopefully." The Cowboys signed tight end Jake Ferguson to an extension last month, and executive vice president Stephen Jones has indicated the team has other contracts it's working on. Parsons, though, remains in a hold in and has requested a trade with the sides at a stalemate. Bland could be next. He had nine interceptions in an All-Pro season of 2023 and returned a record five for touchdowns, and now, two years later, he's close to a second contract that will set him up for life. "I was the guy that didn't have too many offers out of high school," Bland said. "I had one offer so I went to Sac State, played three years, and then went to Fresno [State] and didn't start until four games into the season. Just stuff like that. Just keep going. You'll never know when your opportunity is going to come."

José Ramírez's record-breaking night lifts Guardians over Marlins 4-3

CLEVELAND (AP) — José Ramírez became Cleveland's leader in multihome run games with a drive to right field in the eighth inning as the Guardians defeated the Miami Marlins 4-3 on Tuesday night. Ramírez had three hits and Kyle Manzardo also went deep as the Guardians won for the sixth time in seven games. Ramírez, who snapped an 0-for-12 skid with a solo shot in the first inning, lined a cutter from Calvin Faucher (3-3) just over the wall in right field with one out in the eighth to put Cleveland back on top. It was the 27th multihomer game of Ramírez's 13-year majors career, surpassing Hall of Famer Jim Thome and Albert Belle for the franchise lead. It was also his second this season. Cade Smith (5-4) threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings for the win. Miami tied it with three runs in the fifth. Dane Myers had an RBI base hit to left-center and Otto Lopez scored on a throwing error by Cleveland left fielder Steven Kwan, which moved Myers to third. Heriberto Hernández then doubled down the left-field line to drive in Myers. Key moment Eric Wagaman tried to score from second base on Agustín Ramírez's base hit in the sixth inning, but Kwan made a great throw from left field and Bo Naylor made the tag at home for the out. It was Kwan's MLB-leading 11th outfield assist of the season. Key stat Cleveland grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first on home runs by Ramírez and Manzardo. It was the seventh time this season the Guardians have had back-to-back homers. Manzardo has gone deep three times in two games. Up next Cleveland right-hander Gavin Williams (7-4, 3.17 ERA) goes for the first time since being two outs away from a no-hitter on Aug. 6 at the Mets. Miami will go with RHP Eury Perez (4-3, 3.25 ERA). ___ AP MLB:
