Image via: Juan Ocampo/NBAE via Getty Images | Brad Smith/ISI Photos / Getty Images Trinity Rodman made headlines once again as the Washington Spirit forward delivered a stunning game-winning goal against the Portland Thorns, marking her return from injury in spectacular style. The moment was enough to electrify the crowd. He stunning performance also earned a public message of praise from Los Angeles Lakers legend and part-owner of the Spirit, Magic Johnson. Trinity Rodman earns heartfelt praise from Lakers legend Magic Johnson On a thrilling evening in D.C., Rodman reminded fans why she's a generational talent. With just minutes left on the clock, she buried a decisive goal to give the Washington Spirit a 2–1 victory. For Trinity, it was a storybook return after injury kept her sidelined for weeks. Magic Johnson, who is part of the Spirit's ownership group, didn't hold back his excitement on X. He wrote, 'Welcome back superstar Trinity Rodman! Congratulations on scoring the game winning goal for our Washington Spirit in a 2-1 victory over the Portland Thorns. The entire National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) has missed you!' It wasn't the first time Johnson praised the young forward, but this moment carried added emotion. After all, Rodman's prowess in the game has become as much a part of her identity as her footwork and finishing. Trinity explained her relationship with her father, Dennis Rodman In an emotionally raw interview earlier this year on Call Her Daddy, she opened up about her strained relationship with her father, NBA Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman. 'He's not a dad,' Trinity said. 'Maybe by blood, but nothing else. Hearing his voice is painful.' She described a childhood marked by instability, often living in a car with her mother, while her father's absence left emotional gaps. Even when Dennis Rodman showed up — like when he surprised her at her NWSL debut — the gestures felt more about control or spectacle than support. 'I answer the phone now for my conscience,' she added, 'to be like, he needed to hear my voice before anything else happens.' Lionel Messi injury update: Inter Miami issue statement; former Barcelona teammate calls it 'a huge sadness'
Inter Miami's Lionel Messi (AP Photo) Inter Miami has announced that their captain Lionel Messi will be out of action indefinitely due to a right leg muscle injury. The Argentine star had to leave the field during Miami's Leagues Cup match against Mexico's Necaxa on Saturday, which his team won on penalties. The 38-year-old departed in the 11th minute of the game and walked to the locker room on his own. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Medical examinations were conducted to evaluate the extent of Messi's discomfort that forced his early exit from the match. "The results confirmed a minor muscle injury in his right leg. His medical clearance will depend on his clinical progress and response to treatment," Inter Miami said in its statement. Messi has been exceptional for Inter Miami, scoring 18 goals and providing nine assists in 18 matches, currently sharing the lead in MLS scoring. "A huge sadness for the whole team," said Jordi Alba, who scored a late equaliser that led to Miami's 5-4 penalty shootout victory. Inter Miami currently holds the fifth position in the Eastern Conference with 42 points from 12 wins, 4 losses, and 6 draws, trailing Philadelphia by eight points but with three games remaining. Messi's absence could impact Miami's campaign in the Leagues Cup, a tournament they won in 2023 shortly after his arrival. Miami is scheduled to face UNAM Pumas on Wednesday. They are currently second in the MLS standings for Leagues Cup qualification with five points, needing a win to secure a spot in the quarter-finals. IND vs ENG Test: 'In today's day and age...' – R Ashwin slams Shubman Gill, Gautam Gambhir for 'lack of game awareness'
India head coach Gautam Gambhir (left) and Shubman Gill during a nets session at the Kia Oval, London, Wednesday July 30, 2025. (Ben Whitley/PA via AP) Former India off-spinner R Ashwin has slammed captain Shubman Gill and coach Gautam Gambhir for a "lack of game awareness" in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Bad light and subsequent rain forced stumps to be called early on Day 4 of the fifth Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test at The Oval on Sunday. With the stage set for a thrilling Day 5, England need just 35 more runs to win, while India require four wickets for a miraculous victory. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "Coming back to the topic of spinners not being used, I have felt in this series that there has been a lack of game awareness and, in many ways, our tactical acumen — both on and off the field. This is the main reason why England are ahead in this series and India are behind. We haven't been the sharpest,' Ashwin said on his YouTube channel Ash Ki Baat. 'I feel Shubman Gill will get much better as a captain. He will learn. But sometimes, if you feel that you can play spin really well, you might not bring spinners into the attack. And when you miss the right moment to introduce spinners in these conditions, they become a defensive option,' he added. Morne Morkel hails Mohammed Siraj, reflects on Day 4 twist and rain delay Rain forcing the match into the fifth day means every Test of the riveting five-match series has now gone into the final day. England looked all set to complete the chase of 374 on Day 4, thanks to Joe Root hitting his 39th Test century — 105 off 152 balls — paying a fitting tribute to Graham Thorpe. His fellow Yorkshireman Harry Brook struck a stunning 111 off 98 balls — his tenth century in the longer format — and made the most of a crucial reprieve on 19, dropped by Mohammed Siraj. Root and Brook shared a brilliant counter-attacking stand of 195 runs, giving England real hope of completing their second-highest run chase of all time — and the highest ever at The Oval. Poll Do you agree with R Ashwin's criticism of Shubman Gill's captaincy? Yes, he lacks experience. No, he will improve over time. Partially, he needs to adapt. Not sure. 'When Harry Brook started taking it on, after 20 runs, you could have brought on the spinner to choke the run flow. From the other end, a pacer could have bowled. With all this in mind, Washington Sundar could have been introduced earlier into the attack,' Ashwin said. 'Making these mistakes creates a huge gap. We don't know whether the message is going from outside to the middle. We don't know what's being discussed in the dressing room. But in today's day and age, these mistakes can definitely be avoided,' he added. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!
