Rootin' tootin' fun at Poinsettia Park fête
POINSETTIA Park Retirement Centre was a hive of activity and buzzed with excitement and wild west-themed fun at the centre's annual fête earlier this month. Also read: Watch: 'Captain Hook' the seal recovering in Durban after bait-stealing ordeal Residents and community members volunteered their time and energy to make the fête an event to remember, dressing to the nines for a blast to the past. Line dancers, led by Dawn Mare, donning cowboy hats, plaid shirts and boots, danced to saloon-themed tunes. Various crafts, delicious foods, and bits and bobs were on sale on the day, and children enjoyed Western games while people socialised with family and friends. Wendy Lloyd, community services manager at Poinsettia Park Retirement Centre, said the centre raises funds throughout the year as it is an NPO. Lloyd added, 'Fundraising is a two-way street as many of our residents and staff enjoy having the opportunity to work together for a good cause. This is done by means of jumble sales and our big fundraiser for the year, our fête. It is our residents who come up with and vote for theme ideas for the annual fête. The funds raised are used for various projects deemed necessary after consultation with residents and management.' An example of this are the extra water tanks that have been installed at the centre. On Sunday, July 27, Monare took to TikTok to share a close-up look of how stunning she looked before she says 'I do' and the post garnered nearly 295 000 views and 72 000 likes. The pair have been giving fans a glimpse of their romantic life through their joint TikTok account, V&K. They even shared how their love story began in 2022 and two years later in November 2024, Tshituka paid lobola. 'She looks so good in Congolese Attire,' they captioned the post. In December 2024, they shared their beach engagement photoshoot with their followers in an Instagram carousel post, as Monare also showcased her dazzling oval-shaped diamond ring. Monare wrote in her post: 'I'm looking right at the other half of me.' The couple's wedding post was flooded with congratulatory messages as they embarked on a new chapter in their love story. 'Congrats, Katli, OMG this is soo beautiful,' @thee_barbiegirl commented. While @_taye.m said: 'Rags to riches, talk about living in God's abundance… Springboks debut and wife in the same month.' Tshituka joins the list of many rugby players in SA who have embarked on a new chapter in their lives, whether it is marriage or expecting a child. Among them are Faf de Klerk, Eben Etzebeth and Handre Pollard, who announced the joyful news about growing their families.
