Andhra Pradesh government to streamline New Development Bank-funded road projects, to release ₹200 crore
Vijayawada: The state government has decided to streamline projects taken up with financial assistance from the New Development Bank (NDB). In 2021, the state govt, during the YSRCP regime, signed an agreement with NDB to develop approximately 1,300 km of roads.

However, the project was not completed due to the govt's failure to release its share of funding.
After returning to power, the NDA government decided to revive the project by providing a state grant. The govt has decided to remove works that have not commenced and will focus on ongoing projects and those for which the tender process was completed.
The NDB had promised to grant a loan to widen single-lane roads from mandal headquarters to district headquarters into two-lane roads.
Although the govt initially planned to widen 1,300 km of roads, only about 71 km were completed due to financial constraints following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the project and directed officials to prepare a fresh detailed project report (DPR). He also instructed the finance department to release ₹200 crore to clear contractors' dues and expedite the balance projects. The state govt has trimmed the project to around 900 km to complete the first phase as soon as possible and has directed officials to prepare a blueprint for the second phase during 2025-26.

RBI rate cut to spur Kolkata housing demand by 5-10pc: CREDAI
'In FY2024-25, Kolkata saw the sale of around 17,389 residential units, marking a 16 per cent rise year-on-year,' he said. 'The lower interest rate regime would make home loans cheaper, driving up demand by at least 5 to 10 per cent in the coming months,' Sushil Mohta, CREDAI West Bengal President, told PTI. Kolkata, Jun 6 (PTI) The Reserve Bank of India's decision to cut the repo rate by 50 basis points to 5.5 per cent, along with a 100 basis points reduction in the cash reserve ratio (CRR), is set to boost housing demand in Kolkata's residential property market by 5-10 per cent, particularly in the affordable segment, real estate developers said on Friday. The stock of unsold affordable homes in the city dropped to 12,783 units in March 2025 from 16,069 units a year ago, reflecting sustained buyer interest despite relatively stable prices. 'Kolkata is largely an affordable housing market, and the rate cut will make home ownership more accessible while easing borrowing costs for developers. The CRR cut will further improve liquidity for both homebuyers and builders,' Mohta who is also Chairman of the Merlin Group added. Despite a moderate 10 per cent increase in residential prices over the past two years—lower than Bengaluru (29 per cent), NCR (20 per cent) and Mumbai (13.5 per cent)—Kolkata's price points are expected to remain steady going forward, given limited profit margins in the segment. Mahesh Agarwal, Managing Director of Purti Realty, echoed similar sentiments. 'The RBI's policy decision will sharply reduce borrowing costs and make credit more affordable. We expect demand to rise across all segments—affordable, mid-income and luxury. Lower EMIs will improve access to homeownership and spur greater participation in the real estate market,' he said. According to developers, the RBI's move comes at a crucial time when buyer sentiment is gradually strengthening, and the city's property market, while conservative in pricing, is poised for higher transaction volumes in the new financial year. Industry players believe that the rate cut signals renewed confidence in the broader economy and is likely to have a ripple effect on construction activity, employment generation, and allied sectors in Kolkata. Real estate's contribution to the state's GDP and employment is significant, which is why the state government had extended fiscal and policy incentives to boost sales during the COVID-19 pandemic. Andhra Pradesh government comes under fire for not appointing GVMC Commissioner
The NDA government has come under severe criticism over the non-appointment of a Commissioner for the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) for the past four months. Not just the members of the opposition, even some NDA leaders expressed displeasure over the GVMC not having a chief over hundred days, during the council meeting organised by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) on Friday. Corporators of the YSRCP staged a protest in front of the Mayor's podium. They alleged sheer negligence by the NDA government over the municipal corporation. They argued that the prolonged absence of a GVMC chief has significantly disrupted the corporation's functioning. They also criticised that the non-appointment of Commissioner reflects the interest of the NDA government on Visakhapatnam. Rajya Sabha member Golla Babu Rao and YSRCP floor leader Banala Srinivasa Rao expressed dissent, stating that lack of a Municipal Commissioner is affecting the civic administration. They also found fault with burdening the District Collector with additional GVMC administration workload. They also urged the Collector to somehow dedicate two hours 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the corporation to address civic issues. Visakhapatnam North MLA P. Vishnu Kumar Raju also supported the statements of Mr. Golla Babu Rao. He said the civic body should pass a resolution seeking appointment of a Municipal Commissioner. With Visakhapatnam set to host the International Yoga Day celebrations, likely to be attended by the Prime Minister, he emphasised the urgency of having a full-time Municipal Commissioner in place to oversee preparations. Stormy affair The council meeting held on Friday, was the first for this year and also after the NDA taking over the positions of the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor. The council was stormy affair witnessing intense debates with heated arguments being exchanged between the YSRCP and the NDA leaders. YSRCP Deputy Mayor K. Satish and Mr. Banala Srinivasa Rao accused the administration of ignoring their development proposals. They alleged that projects proposed by them in their wards were excluded from the planning agenda, with preference being given to those recommended by NDA MLAs. There was strong response from the corporators from the JSP. JSP floor leader B Vasantha Lakshmi claimed that during the previous YSRCP government, proposals from certain YSRCP leaders such as K.K. Raju and V. Vijaya Sai Reddy, who held no official positions in the corporation, were given preference to those of NDA corporators. Responding to the JSP corporators, Mr. Banala Srinivasa Rao pointed out that, according to the GVMC Engineering wing, six of the 10 wards that saw the most development in the past four years were represented by TDP corporators, suggesting a balanced approach during the YSRCP's tenure. Heated arguments were exchanged when some of the YSRCP corporators questioned presence of former MLA Peela Govinda Satyanarayana in the council. They recalled that earlier, the TDP corporators questioned the presence of YSRCP MLC Varudu Kalyani in the council. The GVMC Secretary immediately clarified that Mr. Satyanarayana, now holding a post of Chairman of AP Urban Finance & Infrastructure Development Corporation, had received formal permission from the government to attend the council meeting.
