business
in India over the next 3-4 years, as the company builds its
portfolio
amid hopes of faster adoption of green vehicles in the country, according to a top company executive. Tata Motors-owned marquee brand plans to roll out around 8 variants of
Battery Electric Vehicles
(BEVs) in the country by 2030, including the
Range Rover BEV
, which is expected to be introduced in India sometimes next year.
Tata Motors-owned JLR currently does not have any BEVs in its portfolio in the country.
"I think that EVs are one of those things that will hit a point where it is going to race ahead. It was racing already, but slowed down a bit. With every manufacturer now investing, I think that the power of many will fuel this (segment) further, giving consumers confidence," Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) India Managing Director Rajan Amba told PTI here.

With battery pricing dropping and mileage increasing amid the right set of government policies in place, the EV segment is moving in the right direction in the country, he added.
"For whatever reasons, it (EV sales) kind of slowed down a bit, maybe swayed by foreign sentiment, but I think that certainly for our brand and for our category where we operate, I think it will be more than enough to create in the next 3-4 years, a significant portion of our business to come from the BEV portfolio," Amba said.

He noted that when many OEMs come forward, it helps to create a market, which is not possible if only a single entity is operating in the segment.
Amba noted that adoption of EVs in luxury segment in the domestic market has been brisk and various automakers have already benefited in terms of their overall volumes in the last few years.
He expressed hope that going by the market sentiments, Range Rover BEV is also expected to generate a strong demand in the domestic market.
Amba stated that the only thing lacking and which needs to be accelerated is the speed in creating charging infrastructure which would give confidence to the prospective customers.
He noted that JLR is working very closely with
Tata Motors
and other group firms in this regard.
As part of its global
sustainability
goals, JLR aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2039.

Mahindra, in its regulatory filing, has stated that it sold 52,431 units of passenger vehicles in the Indian market, as compared to Tata Motors' 41,557 units recorded last month. This was the second straight month when Mahindra outsold Tata, as in April this year, the manufacturer of popular models like Thar, Scorpio N, etc., sold 52,330 units as compared to 45,199 units registered by the manufacturer of Nexon, Punch. With these numbers, Mahindra has recorded a 21 per cent year-on-year growth in its passenger vehicle sales. The OEM registered 43,218 units in the same month a year ago. In the year-to-date period (April-May 2025) this fiscal as well, Mahindra has registered a 24 per cent growth with 104,761 units, as compared to 84,226 units sold in the same period last fiscal. Mahindra has further stated in its official release that in the passenger vehicle segment, its overall sales were 54,819 units, including domestic retail numbers and exports. Mahindra has attributed this positive sales performance to the ever-increasing demand for SUVs, as well as upbeat confidence for battery electric vehicles. The automaker sells some of the most popular SUVs in India, which include Thar, Thar Roxx, Scorpio N, XUV 3XO, Scorpio Classic, XUV700, Bolero Neo, etc. In the electric vehicle segment as well, the automaker sells models like BE 6, XEV 9e, which have grabbed a lot of attention. 'Thanks to continued demand for our products, we were able to deliver industry-leading growth across our internal combustion engines (ICE) and battery electric vehicles (BEV) portfolio," said Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO, Automotive Division at Mahindra and Mahindra. Compared to other car makers who have varied offerings such as hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs, Mahindra's portfolio largely has SUVs, which have benefited from consumers' preference for larger cars. Data from Vahan has revealed that in April and May this year, Mahindra has sold about 94,843 passenger vehicles, which has cemented its place in the second position in the Indian PV market. During an FDA inspection, the facility was found to be operating in unhygienic conditions. "Expired items were also kept along with others at the facility. They have since destroyed those products," said Anupama Patil, assistant commissioner (Food), according to a TOI report. What were the top violations by Zepto's warehouse? The FDA inspection revealed concerning issues, including fungal growth on food items, storage near stagnant water pools, and expired products on the premises. Additionally, several items were discovered placed on damp, unsanitary flooring. The temperature-controlled storage facilities failed to comply with required standards. In response, the company has stated it will implement measures to address these deficiencies. Zepto Dharavi warehouse The food safety licence will stay suspended until Zepto shows it meets all required safety standards. "Till the contraventions are cleared, the facility will remain shut," joint commissioner(Food) Mangesh Mane said, noting that additional checks will be conducted at other Zepto facilities and similar quick-delivery services. A Zepto representative responded, "...We have initiated an internal review and are working closely with the authorities concerned to ensure full and swift compliance."
