Cowboys may have stumbled into a superstar as a second-round pick angles toward starting

USA Today3 days ago
The Dallas Cowboys needed help at defensive end for the 2025 season. Facing the loss of long-time starter and multiple-time Pro Bowler DeMarcus Lawrence, the team needed reinforcements. The club had drafted the position, highly, but had yet to reap any dominating rewards. So when the opportunity presented itself to secure themselves the potential steal of the 2025 draft, they jumped on it
Dallas secured the services of perhaps the best pass-rushing defensive end of the draft when they drafted Boston College's Donovan Ezeiruaku. But pre-draft accolades don't matter if it doesn't manifest itself on a pro field, and while training camp isn't the real thing, what Ezeiruaku has shown in Oxnard has a lot of people extremely excited.
Rundown
Position: Defensive End
Age: 21
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 248 pounds
Hometown: Williamstown, NJ
High School: Williamstown
College: Boston College (Highlights)
Draft: 2025 Second Round (No. 44 overall)
Acquired: 2025 draft
Contract: Four-year contract (2025), $10.2 million
2025 Base Salary: $840,000, $1.85 million cap hit
Profile
With Micah Parsons not participating in practice due to his contract dispute, Ezeiruaku has been declaring himself as a true force to reckon with. Lining up primarily as a left defensive end, Ezeiruaku has shown a complex rush attack that is far beyond his years. He's also displayed the ability to set the edge, looking like he's ready to take on a starting role sooner rather than later.
Dallas brought back Dante Fowler, who left for a season in Washington, and the expectation was that he'd be starting opposite Parsons, but that may not be the case and if it is may not be for long. The Cowboys also signed Payton Turner, a former first-round pick like Fowler, as veteran depth. They join last year's second rounder Marshawn Kneeland as Parsons' supporting cast. That's before mentioning 2022 second-round pick Sam Williams, who is looking to return from an ACL injury.
Together, the Cowboys have assembled a tremendously pedigreed group at defensive end, but Ezeiruaku looks like a potential breakout star amongst the room.

UDFA corner with whopping 56 college games played hoping to impress Cowboys coaches

The Cowboys' roster includes players who have spent a lot of time in the league, anchored by veterans such as quarterback Dak Prescott and long snapper Trent Sieg. The team's average age is 25 years old right now, which means there's a large number of players much younger. The team has a rookie hitting that median, however, in UDFA corner Bruce Harmon. Harmon just completed his sixth season at Stephen F Austin, enrolling and putting on a collegiate uniform a year before the COVID pandemic hit. Older college players are often judged on a different scale than their younger counterparts, because they have more mature physical characteristics which can often give them an advantage. A player with no pro experience being a elder statesman in the locker room is a rare thing in the regular season, but Harmon is hoping to be that guy. Rundown Position: Cornerback Age: 25 Height: 5-foot-11 Weight: 205 pounds Hometown: Rockwall, TX High School: Rockwell-Heath College: SF Austin (Film Study Video) Draft: 2025 Undrafted Free Agent Contract: Three-year contract (2025), $2.97 million 2025 Base Salary: $840,000 Profile Harmon saw action in four games in 2019, and another seven in the 2020 COVID year, earning redshirt status that saw him appear in 45 more games across his final four years, 56 games in total. Harmon ran a 4.44-second, 40-yard dash at his Pro Day, with a 4.23-second short shuttle time. Follow Cowboys Wire on Facebook to join in on the conversation with fellow fans!

Arizona Cardinals, OL Will Hernandez expected to reach deal

Hernandez, who was the Cardinals' starting right guard 2022-2024, visited the team Monday. The Arizona Cardinals had free agent offensive lineman Will Hernandez in for a visit this week. They are expected to reach a deal for him to return to the team. According to Arizona Sports 98.7 FM's John Gambadoro, both sides would like to get a deal done, and he expects a contract to be agreed upon soon. Hernandez spent the last three seasons as the Cardinals' starting right guard. He tore his ACL in Week 5 last season and only recently was medically cleared for football. Since then, 2024 third-round pick Isaiah Adams has been moved into Hernandez' old starting job. If Hernandez is re-signed, it does not mean that Adams will move to the bench. In fact, since Hernandez has not participated in any training camp, Cards Wire's Howard Balzer believes the Cardinals would start Hernandez on PUP, potentially having him start the season there, where he would have to miss the first four games, at least. Hernandez would give the Cardinals proven starter-quality depth behind Adams and the Cardinals wouldn't miss a beat should someone get hurt. Paige Bueckers matches WNBA legend with another impressive feat

The post Paige Bueckers matches WNBA legend with another impressive feat appeared first on ClutchPoints. Paige Bueckers already has her name all over the WNBA's history books. Bueckers has racked up milestone after milestone, putting together a first-year campaign that's rivaled only by Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark. The Dallas Wings star rookie's performance in their narrow 88-85 loss was no exception, as Bueckers surpassed legend Cynthia Cooper to become the fastest player to the 400-point, 100-assist mark in the W. Bueckers and Cooper both reached the feat in 22 games, proving that the young UConn alum has earned her way into being discussed among the game's elites. The 23-year-old made history in a different way within the same contest, passing basketball icon Sue Bird as the rookie with the second-most 15-point, five-assist contests in WNBA history. Only Clark sits above Bueckers with 30 total. The game between the Wings and Dream was a back-and-forth battle that saw multiple lead changes and deadlocks before Naz Hillmon drilled a game-winning 3-pointer with 2.6 seconds left to seal Atlanta's victory. Bueckers scored nine of her 21 points in the final five minutes. Bueckers' go-ahead corner three at 2:36 gave Dallas a brief lead, only for the Dream to answer immediately before Hillmon's final blow. That marked Bueckers' 11th 20-point game of the season in just 21 appearances, placing her among the most prolific rookie scorers in recent history. The 23-year-old isn't just stacking stats — she ranks among league leaders in scoring and assists. Despite being a rookie, she is the only first-year player this season to rank in the top 10 in points, assists, and steals per game. Bueckers' averages sit at 18.3 points, 5.5 assists, and nearly two steals per outing, all while shooting efficiently from the field and the free throw line. The Wings had a close one slip through their fingers, but Bueckers delivered yet again. Her ability to produce in crunch time earned her praise from both teammates and coaches, and despite the loss, her mark on the rookie record books shines through even when Dallas struggles.
