Monsoon revival to drench Gujarat this festive weekend
The IMD bulletin stated that heavy rain is very likely at isolated places Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, and in Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. In Saurashtra, similar weather is forecast in Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu.
Rainfall is predicted for three days beginning Aug 16.
The weather department said the monsoon system remains active, with the main rain-bearing line stretching from Punjab through Uttarakhand to Arunachal Pradesh along the Himalayan foothills.
A weather disturbance over the central Bay of Bengal is expected to develop into a low-pressure area on Aug 13 over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay. This system is likely to strengthen over the following two days, potentially bringing more rain.
Meanwhile, light rainfall was recorded in 50 talukas of the state in 24 hours ending Tuesday 6am with Shinor in Vadodara getting the highest 23mm.
Since June 1, Gujarat has received a total of 568.65 mm rainfall, which is 64.48% of the seasonal average. Among regions, South Gujarat recorded the highest cumulative rainfall at 1,027.20 mm (68.95%), followed by Central Gujarat with 536.17 mm.
This monsoon, Devbhoomi Dwarka district has recorded the maximum rainfall of 2,079 mm, which is around 135% more than its decade average.

A generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain is likely in the national capital for the next few days, with the maximum temperature expected to settle around 32 degrees Celsius and the minimum to be around 24 degrees Celsius, the weather department said on Friday. Yellow alert for three districts on August 16
The moderate to heavy spell of rain that had been lashing parts of Kerala for the last two days will continue for a couple of more days, influenced by the low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. There will be a reduction in rainfall activity in line with the weakening of the low pressure system. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod on Saturday (August 16, 2025) warning of isolated heavy rains. IMD issues orange alert for Mumbai, red for Raigad on Aug 16-17
Mumbai: The IMD on Friday issued an orange alert for Mumbai and Thane for Aug 16–17, warning of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated spots. Nearby Raigad was put under a red alert for Aug 16, with the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall in some areas. The wet spell in the city continued as rainfall recorded in the 24 hours ending 8:30am on August 15 by the IMD Colaba and Santacruz observatory was 45.2mm and 11.5mm, respectively. The total rainfall recorded so far by the IMD Colaba and Santacruz observatory since the beginning of the monsoon was 1,119.2mm and 1,435.7mm, respectively. Chief of IMD Mumbai, Shubhangi Bhute, said, "The east-west trough runs from the southern parts of Gangetic West Bengal to the east-central Arabian Sea across the upper air cyclonic circulation associated with the low-pressure area over south Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh, north Telangana, south Maharashtra between 3.1 and 4.5km above mean sea level, tilting southward with height. Under its influence, the rainfall activity over Maharashtra is very likely to increase during Aug 15-20, 2025. We have therefore issued an orange alert for Mumbai for Aug 16 and 17, and a red alert in case of Raigad for Aug 16."
