
IMD issues orange alert for Mumbai, red for Raigad on Aug 16-17
The wet spell in the city continued as rainfall recorded in the 24 hours ending 8:30am on August 15 by the IMD Colaba and Santacruz observatory was 45.2mm and 11.5mm, respectively. The total rainfall recorded so far by the IMD Colaba and Santacruz observatory since the beginning of the monsoon was 1,119.2mm and 1,435.7mm, respectively.
Chief of IMD Mumbai, Shubhangi Bhute, said, "The east-west trough runs from the southern parts of Gangetic West Bengal to the east-central Arabian Sea across the upper air cyclonic circulation associated with the low-pressure area over south Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh, north Telangana, south Maharashtra between 3.1 and 4.5km above mean sea level, tilting southward with height.
Under its influence, the rainfall activity over Maharashtra is very likely to increase during Aug 15-20, 2025.
We have therefore issued an orange alert for Mumbai for Aug 16 and 17, and a red alert in case of Raigad for Aug 16."

A warning for fishermen was also issued. "Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, is likely to prevail along and off North Konkan coasts and adjoining sea areas from Aug 15-16. Yamuna nears danger mark in Delhi, officials on alert for flood-like situation
The water level of the River Yamuna at Delhi's Old Railway Bridge neared the danger level on Saturday amid the capital witnessing heavy rain over the past few days. At around 8 pm, the level was at 205.11 metres, only a few notches below the 205.33-metre danger Delhi, the Old Railway Bridge serves as a key observation point for tracking the River Yamuna's flow and potential flood risks. The warning mark is 204.5 metres, which means the current water level has breached that. Heavy rain likely in Odisha over next 4 days
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Bhubaneswar, Aug 17 (PTI) Heavy rain is likely in Odisha during the next four days with the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal on Sunday, the IMD said. The low-pressure area, which was formed around 8.30 am, is expected to concentrate into a depression during the next 24 hours and cross the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts on the morning of August 19, it said. Under its impact, heavy rainfall is expected to lash different parts of the state for four days, it said. Heavy rainfall with thunderstorms is likely in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, and Nuapada districts on Monday, it added.
