Sundarayya remembered on 40th death anniversary
Leaders and activists from the CPI (M) and various labour unions organised numerous gatherings, meetings, and programmes in different localities including Vambay Colony, Ajit Singh Nagar, Old City Gollapalem Gattu, Nehru Bomma Centre, Samarangam Chowk, Governor Peta, Besant Road, and the Hanuman Peta Municipal Vehicle Depot. CPI (M) state secretariat members Ch Babu Rao and other prominent leaders, including Donepudi Kasinath, participated in various commemoration events throughout Vijayawada.
At a programme organised by the Walkers Association at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium, Babu Rao garlanded Sundarayya's portrait and distributed buttermilk to the walkers. In the Old City, Babu Rao inaugurated a medical camp and distributed medicines to patients. Joining Babu Rao and Kasinath at these events were other CPI (M) leaders such as Boi Satya Babu, B Ramana Rao, K Durga Rao, Gade Adilakshmi, Kondareddy, Subbareddy, Raju, Peer Saheb, and Lakshmana, along with prominent members of the Walkers Association, including V Sambireddy and Raja Kamal.
The leaders emphasised that Sundarayya served the people not only as a formidable fighter but also as the first Leader of the Opposition in Parliament. They described him as a true patriot who envisioned and presented the plan for a people's state in Visalandhra eight decades ago.

CPI(M) leaders held during protest against land acquisition in Karedu
Police on Monday arrested CPI(M) State secretary V. Srinivasa Rao, district secretary M. Ramesh and several farmers' association leaders during the 'Chalo Karedu' protest against land acquisition for Indosol Solar Pvt. Ltd. in Ulavapadu mandal of SPSR Nellore district. Condemning the arrests, CPI(M) Nellore City Committee members took out a rally from Balaji Nagar to the Jyothirao Phule statue on Mini Bypass Road, where they staged a protest demanding the release of the leaders. They said the final name will be conveyed by evening or on Tuesday (August 19). Hussain said the opposition parties are speaking among themselves and will convey whatever is decided. On speculation that Siva is to be named the opposition's candidate, CPI(M) MP John Brittas said: 'The BJP was craving to have a person who is part of the RSS. Draft textbook in Kerala says Subhas Chandra Bose ‘fled to Germany in fear of British', govt says ‘historical mistake'
A draft school textbook in Kerala, which said Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose had fled to Germany in fear of the British, has courted controversy, with the state government saying the portion with the 'historical mistakes' had been corrected. The controversial portion was seen in the teachers' handbook for class four, prepared by the State Council of Educational Research and Training. The Education Department has since corrected the draft and debarred the members of the textbook committee from further academic activities. Education Minister and CPI(M) leader V Sivankutty told the media, 'Certain historical mistakes have emerged in the draft of the textbook. When the issue came to notice, directions were given to make corrections and ensure that the textbook is printed only with historical facts. The Kerala government does not share the stand of the Union government that history can be distorted for political ends. SCERT has been given direction to debar the members of the particular textbook committee.' The RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad said there were more mistakes in the book. 'The distortion of history was the CPI(M) government's malicious attempts to disseminate distorted history to students in Kerala. Furthermore, the same textbook deliberately omitted the names of Assam and Jharkhand from a map in the second chapter. This omission is part of a hidden political agenda to destroy the nation's integrity and secretly support the Chinese Communist Party's attempt to invade Assam,' ABVP national secretary Shravan B Raj said in a statement.
