Ozzy Osbourne Documentary ‘No Escape From Now' Still Set for Release This Fall

Yahoo25-07-2025
An upcoming documentary about Ozzy Osbourne's health setbacks in recent years and his desire to stage a farewell concert will still arrive later this year despite the heavy metal legend's death Tuesday.
No Escape From Now, described as 'a deeply personal portrait of the rock legend's harsh new realities and his battle to take the stage for one final performance,' will hit Paramount+ this autumn, a rep for the filmmakers confirmed to Rolling Stone.

'We are truly heartbroken to hear the news of Ozzy's passing,' Phil and Tania Alexander, the creative team behind No Escape From Now, said in a statement.
'Filming with him, Sharon, Aimee, Kelly and Jack for the last three and a half years will always be a cherished and remarkable experience – largely because we got to regularly witness Ozzy's indomitable spirit, his mischievous, irresistible grin and his masterful display of unique one-liners. We will always love you dear Oz. And we send love and strength to Sharon and her family.'
In addition to its access to Osbourne, the film features appearances by Osbourne's wife and manager, Sharon, as well as several musicians who have played with him over the years: Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi, Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, guitarist Zakk Wylde, Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan, and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. It will also feature commentary from Billy Idol, Idol's guitarist and Osbourne's close friend Billy Morrison, Tool singer Maynard James Keenan, and record producer Andrew Watt.
No Escape From Now also filmed footage at Osbourne and Black Sabbath's Back to the Beginning farewell concert earlier this month, a rep for the film said. A rep declined to comment on what changes, if any, would be made to the film in light of Osbourne's death.
'The last six years have been full of some of the worst times I've been through,' Osbourne previously said of the documentary in a statement. 'There's been times when I thought my number was up. But making music and making two albums saved me. I'd have gone nuts without music. My fans have supported me for so many years, and I really want to thank them and say a proper goodbye to them. That is what the Villa Park show [in Birmingham] is about.'
The documentary is one of a handful of projects Osbourne had in the works prior to his death at the age of 76, just weeks after his triumphant farewell show in Birmingham, England. The singer's now-posthumous memoir Last Rites, which also focuses on his health issues, is set to publish in October, while a concert film centered on Back to the Beginning will hit the big screen in 2026.

Scott Bakula Could Return to the STAR TREK Universe in an Interesting New Spinoff Idea — GeekTyrant

Star Trek: Enterprise seems to have been the black sheep of the Star Trek franchise's TV history. While it was great, it was a show that never got the seven-season run of its predecessors and ended with a finale that left fans disappointed. Now, more than two decades later, Scott Bakula could finally get the chance to give Captain Jonathan Archer the send-off he deserves… by making him President. During a recent interview with TrekMovie, longtime Enterprise writer and producer Michael Sussman revealed that he and Bakula have been tossing around the idea for a new series centered on Archer's later years, a political drama in the Star Trek universe. The concept was sparked after the success of Star Trek: Picard . As Sussman explained, what started as a joking email to Bakula about a potential Star Trek: Archer show quickly turned into something they both thought had real potential. The seed for this idea actually comes from a moment in the Enterprise episode 'In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II.' In it, an evil Mirror Universe Archer pulls up the personnel file of his Prime counterpart. Some fans noticed it outlined Archer's impressive career trajectory after the events of Enterprise — Admiral, Chief of Staff of Starfleet Command, honorary Andorian Imperial Guard, Federation councilman, and, finally, President of Earth in 2184. Sussman said: 'It occurred to me that someone on the writing staff, not the art department, needed to write this graphic. Somebody needed to think about this, right? This was going to be a graphic that spelled out Archer's life and career after the series ended. '[This was after knowing that] the franchise was going into the freezer for a spell. [Archer's future] might be fully visible on the finished episode.' Sussman's working title for the project is Star Trek: United , and he envisions it as a blend of The West Wing and The Diplomat , only set in the formative years of the Federation. 'It's a political thriller and a family drama set in those chaotic, formative years of the Federation. […] We did 98 hours of Enterprise and I think [Bakula] really explored that character, but this was a very different direction for Archer to go in. And I think he was really intrigued by that.' Sussman even drew a comparison to how Andor elevated the Star Wars franchise, hoping Star Trek: United could do the same for Trek. He's already pitched the idea to franchise overseer Alex Kurtzman, and the initial meeting went well enough that Sussman is ready for a longer pitch if the interest continues. Whether it happens is another matter. Paramount's recent merger with Skydance has thrown the future of Star Trek into uncertainty, though the new leadership reportedly includes some dedicated fans. Right now, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is the only series actively running, with Starfleet Academy set to arrive in early 2026. Could there be room for Star Trek: United alongside them at some point? Sussman and Bakula certainly think so. I would love to see a series like this get made! I'm a fan of the Enterprise series and would love nothing more than to see Jonathan Archer's story explored further in a new series and I'm totally on board with the concept!

Metallica And Queen Manage The Same Feat

For the past several weeks, both Ozzy Osbourne and his band Black Sabbath have appeared in lofty positions on the charts in the United Kingdom, as listeners in the late rocker's home country mourn his passing and honor his legacy by streaming and buying his biggest hits. As is always the case when such a surge occurs for a sad reason, those tunes have started to decline, especially on the country's rundown of the top rock and metal tracks. That's the tally where Osbourne and Black Sabbath fully displayed their immense popularity, and this frame, as some of Osbourne's most popular tunes and a handful of Black Sabbath cuts fall, several other classics by other superstar acts are able to return to the highest tier. Metallica, Queen and Evanescence Return Four songs return to the top 10 on the Official Rock and Metal Singles chart this week. All of them regularly spend time within that region, but they were recently pushed out as Osbourne and Black Sabbath surged. 'Can't Stop' by Red Hot Chili Peppers leaps highest, jumping from No. 12 to No. 7. That tune is followed by a trio of comebacks, including 'Don't Stop Me Now' by Queen (No. 8), 'Enter Sandman' by Metallica (No. 9), and 'Bring Me to Life' by Evanescence (No. 10). Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath Fall Making room for Metallica, Queen, and others, a pair of Osbourne tunes and two Black Sabbath favorites fall. Last week, Osbourne's 'Mama, I'm Coming Home' and 'No More Tears' sat at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively, and now they dip to Nos. 12 and 13. Black Sabbath sat just behind the group's own frontman at Nos. 6 and 7 with 'War Pigs' and 'Iron Man,' which have now declined in stature to Nos. 15 and 16, respectively. AC/DC, Guns N' Roses and Disturbed Rise Several other popular smashes are also on the rise within the top 10 on the Official Rock and Metal Singles chart, though they don't need to return to the highest tier. 'Iris' by Goo Goo Dolls finds its way back to No. 1, swapping spots with 'Paranoid' by Black Sabbath, which dips to the runner-up slot. 'The Sound of Silence' by Disturbed, 'Thunderstruck' by AC/DC, and 'Sweet Child O' Mine' by Guns N' Roses all inch north several spots, settling in at Nos. 4, 5, and 6, respectively, after landing in the lowest spots within the uppermost region just a few days ago.

Rock Legend, 73, Sounds Off on the Collapse of Today's Music Industry

Rock Legend, 73, Sounds Off on the Collapse of Today's Music Industry originally appeared on Parade. If you're a fan of rock music, it's safe to say you've heard of Glenn Hughes. The English musician, 73, is a legendary bassist and vocalist well known for his work with Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. Hughes also played with the band Trapeze in the early '70s. In 1992, the "You Kill Me" singer began his solo career and has been creating music ever since. In a recent interview with a Polish YouTube channel called Brudne Brzmienie (The Dirty Sound), Hughes shared his thoughts on the current state of the music industry — and he didn't hold back! 'There is no such thing as the music industry anymore. It's not the same at all. It's just not the same world. From where I came from all those years ago, it's just completely changed. The record labels are a waste of time. The people that work at record labels haven't got a clue what they're doing, as far as musically," Hughes declared. "They might think they are great at business, but I don't think so," he added. "So it's just a different, different, different field to work with. And it's really difficult for new, young artists — really difficult.' Despite the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee's distaste for today's music industry, he's still very much a part of that world ... on his terms. 'Do I feel like I have to play the game again? No. No, and I say that with all gratitude that I'm at a place right now in my life where I don't really have to worry too much about anything because I've done pretty much everything I wanted to do as a child," Hughes explained. "All I wanna still do is make music, play some shows, and have fun. I don't get carried away with anything else other than playing music today, right now in this very moment.' Hughes is set to release his forthcoming album, Chosen, on Friday, September 5.
