Rock Legend, 73, Sounds Off on the Collapse of Today's Music Industry
If you're a fan of rock music, it's safe to say you've heard of Glenn Hughes.
The English musician, 73, is a legendary bassist and vocalist well known for his work with Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. Hughes also played with the band Trapeze in the early '70s. In 1992, the "You Kill Me" singer began his solo career and has been creating music ever since.
In a recent interview with a Polish YouTube channel called Brudne Brzmienie (The Dirty Sound), Hughes shared his thoughts on the current state of the music industry — and he didn't hold back!
'There is no such thing as the music industry anymore. It's not the same at all. It's just not the same world. From where I came from all those years ago, it's just completely changed. The record labels are a waste of time. The people that work at record labels haven't got a clue what they're doing, as far as musically," Hughes declared.
"They might think they are great at business, but I don't think so," he added. "So it's just a different, different, different field to work with. And it's really difficult for new, young artists — really difficult.'
Despite the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee's distaste for today's music industry, he's still very much a part of that world ... on his terms.
'Do I feel like I have to play the game again? No. No, and I say that with all gratitude that I'm at a place right now in my life where I don't really have to worry too much about anything because I've done pretty much everything I wanted to do as a child," Hughes explained. "All I wanna still do is make music, play some shows, and have fun. I don't get carried away with anything else other than playing music today, right now in this very moment.'
Hughes is set to release his forthcoming album, Chosen, on Friday, September 5.

By Milly McEvoy England rugby star Sadia Kabeya is ready to have fun as the Red Roses seek global glory on home soil. The 23-year-old is set to embark on a second major tournament with England, having burst onto the scene in 2021. The undeniable best team in the world, England have external expectations to lift silverware this summer but Kabeya's aims are different from that. 'For me, it is hard because I have always played for the enjoyment, and I think it is natural in any professional sport for you to have ups and downs,' she explained, as part of a new LG OLED TV collaboration ahead of this summer. 'But I just want to be able to play with so much fun, and that is how I want people to see me on the pitch. 'I don't have to play rugby because I want to be fast, I want to hit somebody, I want to play rugby because Sadia has so much fun, and I want to have that much fun. 'I think in professional sport you lose that, and I want to gain that back and be that for someone watching, that would be amazing.' Kabeya was a new face to the England team in New Zealand three years ago, when the Red Roses were beaten by the hosts in the final. Since then, she has established herself as one of the most reliable members of the back row, but with that comes more pressure. She added: 'The first time for me was a whirlwind. I was fresh into the squad, and it was a huge experience for me. 'I think this time it means that bit more, being at home and being a bit more cemented in the squad. To be able to hopefully represent my country at home would mean a lot. 'Three years ago was a baptism by fire. We played in record crowds at the time, and to play in that at 19 years old, the biggest stage for rugby, it taught me to deal with those crowds and with those big pressure moments. 'In a team like England, you are used to winning, but when you go to a big tournament, everything is different, everyone is on their A game, so I think what I have taken from those times is how to deal with those big pressure situations.' Linkin Park's Comeback Album Manages Its Own Comeback
Linkin Park shocked and delighted longtime fans all around the world last year by announcing that a new chapter was coming years after the death of Chester Bennington. Following a lengthy hiatus and a period of mourning, the Grammy-winning hard rock outfit reformed with new members, hoping to continue the legacy that Bennington helped start. Linkin Park shared multiple singles and dropped From Zero, its hugely-anticipated comeback set, which became a big win all around the world. The title spent months on various charts and then disappeared, but now it's back in a big way in the United Kingdom, where the outfit recently performed during its From Zero World Tour. From Zero Returns to Three Charts From Zero can be found on four charts in the U.K. at the moment. It was only present on one of them last week, and now it finds its way back to the Official Album Sales, Official Physical Albums, and Official Album Downloads tallies. Linkin Park reenters the general sales ranking at No. 85 and comes in one spot lower on the list of the top-selling physical titles. Hybrid Theory, Papercuts and Meteora Four different full-lengths from Linkin Park appear on the charts in the U.K. Hybrid Theory lives on half a dozen, and like From Zero, it returns to three of them while rising on the other trio. Papercuts, a compilation the group shared only months before announcing From Zero, climbs on two rosters, while Meteora shoots from No. 22 to No. 19 on the Official Rock and Metal Albums list.
