'People Saying India Lost 2 Games Bumrah Played': Nasser Hussain Flags Dilemma
Nasser Hussain thinks India has a dilemma with Jasprit Bumrah if they draw the fourth Test against England in the 2025-26 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Former England captain Nasser Hussain believes India will face a tricky dilemma viz Jasprit Bumrah if they manage to scrape out a draw against England in the fourth Test of the 2025-26 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. He pointed out how it has already been declared that Bumrah will play three Tests in the series, and wondered whether India will be comfortable dropping their 'greatest match-winner' for a decider.
Bumrah, captain Shubman Gill, and head coach Gautam Gambhir have all said that Bumrah is supposed to play just three Tests — something that they have been criticised in India for, too. The Old Trafford game is his third, and he has already bowled 119.4, the second-highest. In Manchester, he was also spotted hobbling a couple of times with cramps and strains.
'India will have a tricky decision to make if they continue to dig in on the final day at Old Trafford and come away with a creditable draw," Hussain wrote in his column for The Daily Mail. 'Because although they keep saying that Jasprit Bumrah will play only three Tests in this five-match series – and this, don't forget, is his third – the series could still be alive when the teams arrive at The Oval next week," he added.
Hussain also admitted to being aware of some people's thoughts on why India have lost the two games where Bumrah played so far.
'I know people are saying that India have lost the two games Bumrah has played in and won the one he missed, with Siraj and Akash Deep bowling India to victory in the second Test at Edgbaston. But there are a lot of things that go into losing a game of cricket, and I don't think you can honestly say Bumrah's bowling was one of the causes of the tourists' defeats at Headingley and Lord's," he said, rejecting the idea.
'Clearly, if India lose and go 3–1 down, they can give Bumrah and probably Mohammed Siraj, who has played all four games so far, a rest for the final game. But if they escape Manchester only 2–1 down, are they really going to leave out their greatest match-winner with the ball?" Hussain added.
India will start the fifth day trailing by 137 runs, with eight wickets in the bag. There's also chances of rain which can aid their push for a draw, though England still remain with their noses ahead.

"No decision made on Bumrah playing 5th Test": Indian batting coach Sitanshu Kotak ahead of series decider
LONDON: Indian batting coach Sitanshu Kotak on Tuesday said world No. 1 seamer Jasprit Bumrah is "fit" but there was no discussion on him playing in the fifth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England starting from July 31 at the Oval. While speaking at the press conference, Kotak said, "No discussion on Jasprit Bumrah playing. Bumrah is fit now. According to his load, he has bowled one inning in the last match. So, obviously head coach, our physio and, captain will have a discussion and decide." Bumrah has been the best bowler for the Indian team in the ongoing series, having grabbed 14 wickets with two fifers at an average of 26.00 and an economy rate of 3.04. During the announcement of India's squad for the Test tour of England, chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed that Bumrah was advised not to play consecutive Tests as part of his workload management. The precaution around Bumrah's usage stems from a stress reaction in his back during the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney in January.

Watch: N Jagadeesan Shows Off Batting Skills After Replacing Rishabh Pant
N Jagadeesan had a first hit in the nets session after replacing Rishabh Pant in India's playing squad for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. India's optional practice session at the Oval on Tuesday (July 29), two days before the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, might have been marred by Gautam Gambhir's altercation with the head groundsman, Lee Fortis, but it had some other important titbits for the team. One of them was the arrival of Narayan Jagadeesan. The Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper had his first hit at the nets after joining the squad as a replacement for the injured Rishabh Pant. In a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on their official social media accounts, Jagadeesan is seen coming down the stairs of the ground and having a hit against pacers and spinners alongside the rest of his teammates. Pant suffered a foot fracture while batting on the first day of the Test at Old Trafford. Though he came to bat on the following day, he has been advised to rest for the foreseeable future. Recently, he shared photos of his plaster and gave an optimistic statement to his fans. 'Appreciate all the love and good wishes coming my way," Pant said in the post on Instagram. 'It's been a real source of strength. I will begin rehab once my fracture heals and I am slowly settling into the process. Staying patient, following the routines, and giving it my 100%. Playing for the country has always been the proudest moment of my life. Can't wait to be back doing what I love," he added. Will N Jagadeesan play at the Oval? Pant's absence opens a place for another wicketkeeper in India's 11. Jagadeesan has an excellent First-Class record behind him with 3373 runs at an average of 47.50 and a strike rate of 62.40. However, it'll be difficult to see him get straight into the team. There's Dhruv Jurel ahead of him and the UP 'keeper has not only made his debut for India against England at home, but he also has been pretty safe behind the stumps whenever Pant has had to sit out throughout the series. view comments First Published:

India yet to take a call on Bumrah; Arshdeep could make his debut
The Indian team management seems to have taken the wait-and-watch approach before deciding on Jasprit Bumrah's availability for the fifth Test. Before the series got underway, it was decided that Bumrah would feature in only three fixtures to manage his workload. He has already featured in three Tests, but with the series on the line, the think-tank could deviate from its original plan. The team's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said: 'Bumrah is fit now, and he bowled in one innings in the previous match, so the head coach, physio and the captain will come together and decide. We are yet to make the decision.' After drawing the fourth Test at Old Trafford, head coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed that all the pacers were fit. During an optional training on Tuesday, Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh bowled in tandem. Both missed out on the previous game due to injuries. There is a possibility of Arshdeep making his debut, replacing Anshul Kamboj. Akash, too, could return if the team decides to rest Mohammed Siraj, who has played in all four Tests. During the practice session, Gambhir, had a long chat with spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who is yet to get a single game so far. In the past, The Oval surface has had something in it for the tweakers and the team management could be tempted to play the left-arm wrist-spinner in place of Shardul Thakur. However, Kotak said that a decision will be taken on the eve of the game after assessing the surface. There are concerns over the No. 3 spot as well. Both Karun Nair and B. Sai Sudharsan have struggled to get going, even though Gambhir was happy with them building partnerships. Kotak said he expects a big innings from the No.3 batter in the final Test. It could be a tricky call for the management.
