Watch: N Jagadeesan Shows Off Batting Skills After Replacing Rishabh Pant
India's optional practice session at the Oval on Tuesday (July 29), two days before the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, might have been marred by Gautam Gambhir's altercation with the head groundsman, Lee Fortis, but it had some other important titbits for the team.
One of them was the arrival of Narayan Jagadeesan. The Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper had his first hit at the nets after joining the squad as a replacement for the injured Rishabh Pant. In a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on their official social media accounts, Jagadeesan is seen coming down the stairs of the ground and having a hit against pacers and spinners alongside the rest of his teammates.
Pant suffered a foot fracture while batting on the first day of the Test at Old Trafford. Though he came to bat on the following day, he has been advised to rest for the foreseeable future. Recently, he shared photos of his plaster and gave an optimistic statement to his fans.
'Appreciate all the love and good wishes coming my way," Pant said in the post on Instagram. 'It's been a real source of strength. I will begin rehab once my fracture heals and I am slowly settling into the process. Staying patient, following the routines, and giving it my 100%. Playing for the country has always been the proudest moment of my life. Can't wait to be back doing what I love," he added.
Will N Jagadeesan play at the Oval?
Pant's absence opens a place for another wicketkeeper in India's 11. Jagadeesan has an excellent First-Class record behind him with 3373 runs at an average of 47.50 and a strike rate of 62.40.
However, it'll be difficult to see him get straight into the team. There's Dhruv Jurel ahead of him and the UP 'keeper has not only made his debut for India against England at home, but he also has been pretty safe behind the stumps whenever Pant has had to sit out throughout the series.

Oval Curator's Double Standards Exposed After Spat With Gautam Gambhir, Ex-India Star Shares Damning Photo
Two days before the series-deciding match of Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, things have heated up. India head coach Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday got involved in a heated exchange of words with the Oval's chief curator Lee Fortis and was heard telling him "you don't tell us what we need to do" while pointing fingers at the groundstaff. The Oval will host the fifth and final Test between India and England from Thursday, and the Indian team has hit the ground running two days after staging a remarkable comeback to draw the fourth match in Manchester. India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said the altercation took place after the visitors were asked to stand "2.5 metres from the wicket". However, he said the Indian team will not be filing any complaint. 'Honestly, one of ground staff came and said (that we were required to) stand 2.5 metre from the wicket and 'go outside the rope and see the wicket'. I have never seen something like that,' Kotak told the media later. 'No complaint is needed for this,' he added. Ex-India opener Aakash Chopra described the whole situation and posted an image of the same curator standing on the pitch with England coach Brendon McCullum ahead of a mathc during the 2023 Ashes. "2023, Ashes contest. 48 hours before the match the same Oval curator can be seen staing on the pitch with England coach Brendon McCullum. Different rules for different people?" Aakash Chopra asked. Not letting Gautam Gambhir and co near the square at the Oval - Double standards much? #Aakashvani #ENGvsIND — Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) July 29, 2025 Curator Lee Fortis yelled at the support staff for keeping the cooling box on the square. Asked Indian coach Gambhir to stand behind the rope and check the pitch: India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak in the PC Here's the Match minus 2 photo of The Oval head curator Lee Fortis… — Sarang Bhalerao (@bhaleraosarang) July 29, 2025 Meanwhile, Kotak said the Indian squad members were not wearing spikes so there was no element of danger to the surface. 'Before this game, we had an idea that the curator is not the easiest person to work with. Being possessive is good but no so much. We had joggers on (and) not spikes so there was no danger,' he said. During the training session, videos that have now gone viral on social media clearly showed an upset Gambhir getting into a verbal altercation with the curator, prompting Kotak to intervene and douse the situation. The tiff started when Fortis told Gambhir: "I will have to report this" and to that the Indian head coach replied rather tersely: "You go and report whatever you want to report." Kotak stepped in at this point, took the Englishman to a different corner and said: "We won't damage anything." Other Indian support staff such as bowling coach Morne Morkel and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate were seen listening keenly to the argument. While it was not clear why the two got into an argument, Gambhir and Fortis appeared to be arguing over the conditions of the pitches for practice. However, Gambhir turned back again to tell Fortis that he should not be telling his side "what to do." "You can't tell us what to do. You are just one of the groundsmen, nothing beyond," Gambhir was seen telling in the video. Fortis and Gambhir then went their separate ways, with the India coach returning to oversee the net session. Later while walking from the field to his room, Fortis said: "It's a big game, and he (Gambhir) is a bit touchy." Meanwhile, Sai Sudharsan, who registered a half-century and a duck in the Manchester Test, was the first one to arrive at the venue for practice, where left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav was also seen putting in some hard yards. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh too was seen bowling under the watchful eyes of Morkel.

Joe Root is not chasing Sachin Tendulkar's record says his teammate, name is...
Joe Root is not chasing Sachin Tendulkar's record says his teammate, name is... New Delhi: Jos Buttler said on his YouTube channel For the Love of Cricket that England's legendary batsman Joe Root has no desire to break Sachin Tendulkar's record. In the Manchester Test, Root overtook Ricky Ponting to take second place in the list of players who have scored the most runs in Test cricket. Now Root is only behind Sachin (15,921) with 13,409 runs. Buttler said – this is not his way of playing Buttler said, 'He does not want to break Sachin's record because he does not play cricket like this nor does he think from this perspective. He just enjoys cricket.' Buttler also said that if Root stays fit, this achievement is completely achievable. Has scored 21 centuries after Covid Buttler praised Root's form and said, 'He has scored 21 centuries since Covid. He is in the best form of his life and it is wonderful to watch him play.' Stuart Broad expressed concern Former fast bowler Stuart Broad asked, 'Do you think he will be able to make this record? He is 34 years old and will soon be 35. Many players struggle with form or fitness at this age.' To this, Buttler replied, 'I think things are going in Root's favor.' Root's strength is love for cricket Buttler said, 'Root has never been a player who feels disillusioned with cricket after 2-3 years. When England won only one Test out of 17 and he was the captain, he still played well.' He further added, 'He does not think about records. He just likes to play and win for England. It will be interesting to see whether he stays at number 2 or reaches number 1.' Root's magic will be seen in the Oval Test The fifth and final Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy will start at The Oval from Thursday. Everyone's eyes will be on Root to see if he plays a big innings again.
