CT man allegedly found with guns, cocaine and $20K during search of his apartment

A man accused of selling narcotics in Norwalk was arrested Monday before authorities searched his apartment and allegedly found two guns, ammunition, suspected cocaine and more than $20,000.
Melvin Colon, 34, of Norwalk faces five counts each of possession of narcotics and sale of narcotics, two counts each of illegal possession of a large-capacity magazine, illegal possession of an assault weapon and negligent storage of a firearm and a single count each of altering the serial number on a firearm, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance, use of drug paraphernalia and operation of a drug factory, according to the Norwalk Police Department.
Police said the department's Special Services Division launched a narcotics investigation in January that focused on the area of 265 Wilson Ave., an apartment building. The investigation followed numerous community complaints reporting narcotics sales in the area.
Using 'various investigative techniques,' police said they obtained four search warrants and five arrest warrants for Colon, who was found to be a resident of the apartment complex. The search warrants allowed authorities to search Colon's person and raid his apartment and two of his vehicles, according to police. Police said they also obtained five arrest warrants charging Colon with selling narcotics.
On Monday, authorities found Colon in a parking lot near the apartment building and arrested him. He was allegedly found with two baggies of suspected cocaine, police said.
Authorities then carried out the search warrant at Colon's apartment and allegedly found two firearms, a large number of suspected narcotics, narcotics packaging and scales. Police said they seized a polymer 80 9mm 'ghost gun' pistol, a Charles Daly PAK 9 assault pistol, a 50-round high-capacity drum magazine, a 30-round high-capacity 9mm magazine, 153 grams of suspected cocaine and $20,108.
Colon's bail was set at $500,000, police said. He is expected to face a judge on June 16.

Former Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Trystan Colon has found a new team. After going unsigned all through the main free agency period, he is joining the Detroit Lions, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Colon spent the last two seasons with the Cardinals, signing one-year deals each year. He appeared in 31 games in two seasons and started 11 games, playing guard and center. The Lions found themselves needing center help as starter Frank Ragnow announced his retirement. Because he is joining at thus point of the offseason, he will not count for the Cardinals as a compensatory loss. The compensatory period ended with the NFL draft in April. It didn't take long for the Detroit Lions to find a backup plan at center. According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Lions have signed offensive lineman Trystan Colon to a one-year deal. Colon, 27, has played in 51 NFL games for two teams over five seasons, most recently for the Arizona Cardinals in 2024. He was undrafted out of Missouri in 2020. Advertisement Colon, formerly known as Colon-Castillo, played in all 17 games for the Cardinals in 2024, making a career-high seven starts. He has made four career starts at center, all with the Baltimore Ravens from 2020-22, and 11 starts at right guard from 2023-24 with the Cardinals. The signing follows the retirement of longtime Lions center Frank Ragnow, who announced his retirement via Instagram on Monday. Ragnow, a first-round pick in 2018, was the Lions' starting center from 2018-24, making 96 starts. ANALYSIS: Lions lose one of their most critical players. The road to the Super Bowl just got harder. Among the options the Lions are considering to replace Ragnow is 2025 second-round draft pick Tate Ratledge, who has been taking snaps at center during organized team activities. Ratledge primarily served as a right guard in college for the Georgia Bulldogs, but has been praised by members of the Lions staff for his versatility.
