CT man allegedly found with guns, cocaine and $20K during search of his apartment

A man accused of selling narcotics in Norwalk was arrested Monday before authorities searched his apartment and allegedly found two guns, ammunition, suspected cocaine and more than $20,000. Melvin Colon, 34, of Norwalk faces five counts each of possession of narcotics and sale of narcotics, two counts each of illegal possession of a large-capacity magazine, illegal possession of an assault weapon and negligent storage of a firearm and a single count each of altering the serial number on a firearm, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance, use of drug paraphernalia and operation of a drug factory, according to the Norwalk Police Department. Police said the department's Special Services Division launched a narcotics investigation in January that focused on the area of 265 Wilson Ave., an apartment building. The investigation followed numerous community complaints reporting narcotics sales in the area. Using 'various investigative techniques,' police said they obtained four search warrants and five arrest warrants for Colon, who was found to be a resident of the apartment complex. The search warrants allowed authorities to search Colon's person and raid his apartment and two of his vehicles, according to police. Police said they also obtained five arrest warrants charging Colon with selling narcotics. On Monday, authorities found Colon in a parking lot near the apartment building and arrested him. He was allegedly found with two baggies of suspected cocaine, police said. Authorities then carried out the search warrant at Colon's apartment and allegedly found two firearms, a large number of suspected narcotics, narcotics packaging and scales. Police said they seized a polymer 80 9mm 'ghost gun' pistol, a Charles Daly PAK 9 assault pistol, a 50-round high-capacity drum magazine, a 30-round high-capacity 9mm magazine, 153 grams of suspected cocaine and $20,108. Colon's bail was set at $500,000, police said. He is expected to face a judge on June 16.
