IOA feud nears end as ministry steps in
NEW DELHI: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has for some time attracted unwanted attention due to various controversies — be it the appointment of Raghuram Iyer as the CEO, Executive Council (EC) members bringing a no confidence motion against president P T Usha in an attempt to remove her, joint secretary Kalyan Chaubey performing the additional duties of acting CEO contrary to International Olympic Committee's (IOC) wishes, IOC withholding 'Olympic Solidarity Fund' to India and pausing all payments to the Usha-led NOC, a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report which criticised a faulty sponsorship deal with Reliance India Limited (RIL) that resulted in a Rs 24 crore loss to IOA and corruption allegations against current treasurer Sahdev Yadav and the finance committee.

The protracted administrative conflict between Usha and 12 EC members raised concerns over the stability of IOA, potentially hindering PM Narendra Modi govt's ambitions to establish India as a global sporting power. As India campaigns to host the Commonwealth Games 2030 as well as the Summer Olympics and Paralympics 2036, a united, stable IOA without factionalism was considered essential.
According to sources, years of internal struggles, mismanagement and public disputes within IOA may be nearing an end, possibly as soon as next week. Usha and the group of 12 EC members have reached a consensus to set aside differences and cooperate professionally in national interest — regarding the bid to host the CWG and Olympics, as well as other international sporting events.
It has been indicated that EC members have agreed to ratify Iyer's appointment as CEO, which had been a principal issue between Usha and the EC.
Iyer was appointed IOA's CEO in Jan 2024 after a formal selection process, but EC refused to ratify it citing concerns over his salary. This prompted the IOC to issue warnings to IOA about the lack of a full-time CEO.
Usha and the EC members have reportedly agreed to approve balance sheets and audited accounts, and to withdraw charges of financial irregularities against the treasurer. The last IOA executive council meeting was held on Sept 26, 2024, and a Special General Body Meeting (SGBM) is expected shortly to resolve outstanding matters.
Sports minister
Mansukh Mandaviya
played a significant role in mediating between Usha and the EC members. Acting behind the scenes, he ensured that IOA's disputes didn't disrupt India's Olympic aspirations. Mandaviya has repeatedly urged IOA officials to prioritise national interests and good governance. On Thursday evening, some IOA office-bearers met Mandaviya at his residence where a decision was reached to resolve the deadlock and work collectively.
'Things are on the mend. Everything has been sorted out between Usha and EC members. There could be a resolution as early as next week or in 10 days. Everyone understands the nation comes first at a time when India is planning to host the CWG and Olympics. IOA needs to present a united front and disputes can be set aside,' the source stated.

CoinDCX offers 25% bounty to recover stolen crypto in $44-mn hack
CoinDCX, one of India's leading cryptocurrency exchanges, has announced a recovery bounty program after suffering a security breach that led to the loss of approximately $44 million (around Rs 379 crore). The company is offering up to 25 per cent of the recovered funds as a reward to those who help retrieve the stolen crypto and assist in identifying and bringing the attackers to justice. If all lost assets are recovered, the bounty could reach a total value of $11 million (Rs 94.6 crore). In a statement, CoinDCX emphasised that the effort goes beyond just recovering funds — it's about uniting the Web3 community to stand against cybercrime. 'This is not just about us. This is about standing up for what's right, for the safety, transparency, and future of the entire Web3 ecosystem. It's a war against cybercrime,' the company said. Co-founder Neeraj Khandelwal highlighted that the breach was not only an attack on CoinDCX but on trust itself. 'When one of us is targeted, all of us are affected. CoinDCX is committed to using this incident as a turning point—to strengthen our defenses, reinforce transparency, and work with the best minds in the industry to make recovery real and replicable,' he said. He added that the company is actively working with an exchange partner to block and recover the stolen assets and is fully committed to the recovery effort. 'We will emerge from this stronger, together,' Khandelwal said. The company also issued a call to action, inviting ethical hackers, white-hat researchers, and partners across the ecosystem to join the fight against cybercrime.

Farmer groups to step up campaign against FTA with U.S.
A general body meeting of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) held in New Delhi on Sunday (July 20, 2025) has warned the Union government against going ahead with the proposed trade agreement with the United States. The SKM said, in a statement on Monday (July 21, 2025), that the general body has also called for nationwide protests against the deal as it could act against the interests of farmers. The SKM will observe August 13 as 'Corporations Quit India Day' and said it seriously apprehends that the Narendra Modi government is surrendering to the diktats of the 'U.S. Imperialism' to sign the free trade agreement (FTA). The SKM said such an agreement could lead to opening up of agriculture, dairy and food markets and that will hurt the interests of the people. 'The FTA is supposed to come into effect by August 1, 2025. August 9 is the 83rd anniversary of the Quit India Day movement against British colonialism. To protest the BJP-led NDA government's moves to accept USA's pressures and increase imports of food and dairy items, including Genetically Modified foods and penetration of multinational corporations in food markets, SKM will issue a mass warning through these mass protests,' the statement said. 'Peasants will raise the slogan 'Corporations Quit India' on August 13 by organising tractor/ motor vehicle parades and protest demonstrations and burn effigies of the US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi,' the statement added. The meeting congratulated the leadership of the united trade union movement for the strike action on July 9. 'This was the 22nd general strike since the invention of neo-liberal policies and its success has filled confidence to all the democratic sections in the society that the entire working people are ready to fight back the anti-people policies of the ruling classes,' the statement said.
