It seems there's always a new 'must-have' hair product out on the market claiming to protect and style your tresses with minimum effort. Having long, thick, and usually very dry hair, I'm open to anything. But I have to say, I'm yet to find my absolute go-to item.
My locks have a natural wave and while I love a tousled 'beachy' look, if I leave my hair to dry naturally it only looks good until around lunchtime. After that, well, it's just a mess. And the next day? Forget about it.
On the other hand, I find using heat to dry and style my hair such a chore. I'm a busy working mum with little time for lengthy styling, so any good hair styles that I achieve are a fluke.
Basically, I'm in desperate need of hair help.
So when I got the opportunity to test the Effortless Styling Kit by TYPEBEA, I was more than a little excited. The sellout brand created by dynamic duo, celebrity Rita Ora and beauty entrepreneur, Anna Lahey, what's not to love? I mean have you seen the hair on those women?
This set, consisting of the S1 Ultimate Styling Serum and S2 Sea Salt Texture Mist, has become insanely popular. Both products can be used for either air or heat drying, while protecting and caring for your hair at the same time. That alone sounds like hair heaven.
But despite the mega TikTok hype, are these the products really going to revolutionise my hair styling routine – and ultimately my hectic life? I couldn't wait to find out.
WHAT PRODUCTS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS SET?
The Effortless Styling Kit consists of the following two products:
S1 Ultimate Styling Serum, $40 at Typebea
This is a creamy hair serum in a pump container that you apply to damp or dry hair for a smooth and flyaway-free look. It's designed to tame frizz, protect hair from heat and UV, speed up drying time and strengthen your hair.
A lightweight sea salt spray that you apply to either damp or dry hair in order to achieve a beachy look with natural waves and texture, just without the annoying fuzz.
HOW DID I USE THESE PRODUCTS?
I used both of these products for a month on both dry and wet hair to achieve either a smooth or wavy finish, depending on the look I was after.
HOW DID THE PRODUCTS PERFORM?
S2 SEA SALT TEXTURE MIST
I've tried all sorts of beach hair type products and they usually make my hair feel heavy and leave me with crunchy, sticky, uncontrollable tresses. I usually can't wait to wash out the products the next day. However the S2 Seat Salt Texture Mist was an entirely different story.
I washed and towel dried my hair and then simply sprayed the product – which is a very gentle mist – all over my hair, including the ends and scalp. I then scrunched my hair and let it dry. That was about it – so simple and the result was amazing. My hair dried much faster and didn't feel gluggy or sticky, instead it was soft, light and hydrated. And best of all, it fell into beautiful natural waves straight from the beach – just with much less frizz. Plus it has a delicious scent – my kids have said many times over the past month that my hair smells so good!
The time saving factor was also a bonus. It doesn't take any time to achieve this look and it was wearable for more than one day. Finally, I can do a beachy hair before work or going out without looking like I have – well, just arrived from the beach.
S1 ULTIMATE STYLING SERUM
The S1 Ultimate Styling Serum was a huge surprise for me. I'd been so focused on achieving the perfect beach hair, I wasn't expecting the sheer magnificence of this product. I have to say, it's one of the best styling products for smooth hair I've ever tried.
I applied a couple of pumps to damp hair, then heat styled my locks using a blow dry brush. My hair usually takes a while to blow dry but this serum honestly reduced the drying time. Plus, it left my tresses smooth and so well styled. Even better, the look lasted for a week!
It doesn't feel sticky and you can apply in between blow dries to tame sneaky flyaways or frizz. The other day, I used this when I heat dried my hair – but later got caught in a shower of rain and my smooth hair started to fizz. So I simply added a little more S1 Ultimate Styling Serum and gave a it a quick blow dry – perfect.
The following day after early morning training in the park, I simply applied a little more serum, on the go, before running out the door to work and my hair was frizz-free. It's a revelation!
On another occasion, after applying the spray for my beachy waves, I also used the serum on the ends and on top of my head to further reduce the frizz and it was incredible.
All in all, the perfect hair combo for a range of looks.
THE FINAL VERDICT
What can I say, I absolutely love these hair products. They're like my new best friends who have swept in and completely changed my life. They're both easy to use and super effective. And they look after my usually parched hair, leaving it soft, manageable and frizz-free.
With the S2 Sea Salt Texture Mist I can achieve the tousled beach holiday hair without the frizz and it's suitable not just for balmy summer days, but also for work or going out to dinner. My hair feels soft despite the spray, unlike other beach hair products that leave my locks feeling heavy, sticky or crunchy. My waves remain soft, defined and luscious and my hair looks nourished and hydrated.
On the other hand, the S1 Ultimate Styling Serum is equally astounding. A couple of pumps on my hair before heat drying and my hair is smooth, soft and immaculately styled. It's great for applying on the run to keep hair under control – and when air drying to deal with pesky runaway strands.
To top it off, the products are reasonably priced at $40 each – or can be purchased together in the Effortless Styling Kit for $72 currently (down from $80). You can also subscribe and save on the price – and if you're not happy, you have 21 days to get a refund. I'd like to say they will last for quite a while except I'm currently using them absolutely everyday so we'll see how it goes!
WILL I KEEP USING THESE PRODUCTS?
Yes, yes, yes! With a huge amount of hair and very little time to look after it, these products are like a dream come true. Not only are they easy to use and drastically cut my drying time, they make my hair look fabulous for whatever look I want to achieve. Plus, they actually look after my hair at the same time, leaving it in good condition and appearing well maintained.
For a busy working mum, life (and hair) does not get much better.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
CAN I USE THESE TWO PRODUCTS TOGETHER?
According to TYPEBEA you most definitely can and I certainly found them to be an excellent team. The recommendation is to apply the S1 Ultimate Styling Serum first to condition and protect the hair, followed by the S2 Sea Salt Mist for soft tousled texture.
IS IT BETTER TO APPLY THE S2 SEA SALT TEXTURE MIST TO WET OR DRY HAIR?
You can do either, by spraying onto hair from root to tip and scrunching for natural waves. However, the team at TYPEBEA suggest that you will get more texture if applied to damp or wet hair.
WHAT HAIR TYPES ARE THESE STYLING PRODUCTS SUITABLE FOR?
These product s are suitable for all hair types whether your tresses are straight, wavy, curly, fine, thick, short, long, colour-treated or extended. The products have been formulated for, and tested on all hair types.
CAN I USE THESE STYLING PRODUCTS WITH COLOURED HAIR?
Absolutely, these products are safe to use on coloured hair – I can vouch for that!

Australian influencer Dominique Elissa narrowly escapes death after sauna explosion in backyard

Australian influencer and model Dominique Elissa narrowly escaped death after a sauna exploded in the backyard of a property she was staying at. The 30-year-old revealed she was staying at a house 30 minutes from Byron Bay, had no reception, no close neighbours and was just minutes from entering the sauna when it blew up. 'I had the most crazy, traumatising, near-death experience the other night,' Ms Elissa said in a TikTok video. 'I had put the sauna on. . . I was in it the night before, and I thought I'll just cook dinner quickly and then go in, in 40 minutes, which is what you do for a lot of saunas, you let them heat up.' Loading TikTok Post Ms Elissa explained she had just finished eating and was about to put her bathers on for the sauna when she heard a huge bang. 'I hear 'boom' and I look up and the entire sauna exploded,' she said. 'It was like a 10 to 15-metre-high explosion, all the power went out, my phone was about to die, I have no reception. 'I am screaming 'Help! Somebody help me', like it was a horror movie.' Ms Elissa was able to dial 000 but by the time emergency services arrived, the whole sauna had burnt to the ground. 'It was the most horrific thing to experience because I was a few minutes from going into that sauna.' She said the incident has proven to her how precious life is and she is grateful to have escaped without injuries. 'Life is fragile, you have no idea what curveballs life is going to throw at you. It was the craziest 24 hours of my entire life.' 'I just feel so grateful to be alive.' Ms Elissa's year has not been easy, with her mother passing away in March after a devastating battle with cancer. Just two weeks before her mum's death, Ms Elissa held a wedding at the hospital so she could celebrate her marriage to her partner Tom Bull while her mum was still alive. She said it was the best decision she ever made. The couple will also hold another wedding in Italy later this year.

This hotel buffet is one of Melbourne's most lavish all-you-can-eat options

Previous SlideNext Slide Contemporary$$$$ The Hyatt's 'Living Grand' buffet, at in-house restaurant Collins Kitchen, is one of the most expensive and extravagant all-you-can-eat options in Melbourne. When the buffet relaunched for Sunday lunches post-COVID, appealing largely to families, it was a sleeper hit. It's since become so popular that the hotel has added a Friday night buffet to draw in a younger demographic. Those diners have likely seen it on TikTok, which is partly responsible for the buffet resurgence. Save for the commanding seafood tower of oysters, prawns, crabs and (sometimes) Moreton Bay bugs, this one is all about quiet luxury with sashimi on ice and made-to-order options. And for dessert? A pancake and waffle station and a chocolate fountain, no less. Buffet aside, Collins Kitchen's a la carte menu is all about locally sourced, flame-grilled meats, from a signature wagyu tomahawk to slow-cooked American-style brisket.
