Kevin De Bruyne To Pursue The American Dream? MLS Club Listed As Likely Option!
A top MLS club's head coach, while not naming De Bruyne specifically, also subliminally hinted at the need for an 'attacking player' in their ranks.
Time for Kevin De Bruyne to live the American Dream? Well, it seems likely, as recent reports state that Chicago Fire FC are in active discussions with the Manchester City star to finalise a move to the MLS, should he choose to do so.
De Bruyne, 33, recently announced his decision to leave Manchester City at the end of the season upon the expiration of his contract.
The midfield maestro De Bruyne himself recently confirmed that he'd be leaving the Etihad Stadium at the end of his current deal, after Guardiola decided not to offer him a new deal.
Having been hampered by a series of debilitating injuries over the last two years, De Bruyne's role in City has diminished over time.
And now, it seems as if the herd is flocking to acquire the services of the Belgian, with Chicago Fire seemingly leading the charge, according to reports from The Athletic.
Although Inter Miami CF currently holds De Bruyne's MLS discovery rights – a rule that gives them the right of first refusal – they are unlikely to pursue him due to having already filled all three of their designated player slots with Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi, all of whom are out of contract at season's end. This development has cleared a potential path for Chicago.
New York City FC and D.C. United have also reportedly expressed interest, but Chicago, with only two designated players on its roster and ambitious ownership in Joe Mansueto, appears to be an ideal landing spot should De Bruyne decide to play in MLS, ESPN reported.
Chicago Fire head coach Gregg Berhalter, while not naming De Bruyne specifically, also subliminally hinted at the need for an 'attacking player' to anchor the midfield and supercharge their attack.
'I think that in a perfect world, you'd be able to invest across the entire roster and say, 'OK, we can bring in world-class players in every position,' but it's not perfect," the former USMNT coach stated in a presser.
'There's a salary cap, there's a limited amount of designated players. So I think the most sense is to bring in an attacking player.
'Someone that can change the game consistently from an attacking end and can work with the offensive weapons we already have to bring out more in them and help them continue, and overall help the team both on and off the field."
The 33-year-old midfield maestro was at the epicentre of the Pep Guardiola-led revolution of City, aiding the Cityzens to six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five EFL Cups, and the coveted UEFA Champions League crown in the 2022-23 season.
Albeit not at the peak of his powers, the quality and control that De Bruyne continues to provide make him a more than tempting option for any major club.

Rashford, Garnacho, Sancho And More Manchester United Stars Seek Exit Amid Chaos
Last Updated: Five Manchester United players, including Rashford and Garnacho, want to leave. Rashford, out of favor, was loaned to Aston Villa. Sancho, Antony, and Malacia also seek moves. Five Manchester United players, including England international Marcus Rashford and Argentina winger Alejandro Garnacho, have informed the club of their desire to leave, a source at the club confirmed on Friday. Rashford, who has made over 400 senior appearances for United, has reportedly fallen out of favor with manager Ruben Amorim. The 27-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, scoring twice in 10 Premier League appearances. United endured their worst-ever Premier League campaign, finishing 15th, with Rashford playing no part under Amorim in the latter stages. The manager publicly questioned the forward's commitment, stating he'd 'rather put a goalkeeper coach on the bench than a player not giving their all." Since his move to Villa, Rashford has said he feels 'fitter and better," but a long-term future at United appears increasingly unlikely. Alejandro Garnacho is also considering his future at the club. The 20-year-old Argentine featured regularly throughout United's Europa League campaign but was only brought on as a late substitute in the 1–0 final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur — a loss that also cost United a place in next season's Champions League. Frustrated, Garnacho took to social media after the match: 'Up until the final, I played every round helping the team, and today I play 20 minutes, I don't know," he wrote. 'The final will influence [my decision], but the whole season, the situation of the club." Sancho, Antony, and Malacia Also Want Out Brazilian winger Antony, who joined United from Ajax in 2022 for a reported fee exceeding $100 million, played 17 times and scored five goals for Real Betis while on loan in LaLiga. Meanwhile, Dutch left-back Tyrell Malacia, who has battled injuries since arriving at United, was loaned to PSV Eindhoven in February. He, too, has signaled a desire for a fresh start elsewhere.

Kyle Walker joins Burnley on two-year contract
Burnley: Kyle Walker has joined newly-promoted side Burnley on a permanent transfer ending his highly successful stay at Manchester City. After a short loan spell in Italy with AC Milan last season, Walker returned to Man City but could not find a place in the squad which was eliminated by Al-Hilal in the Round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup. Walker, 35, has put pen to paper on a two-year deal at Turf Moor and links up with his former Spurs and England teammate, Clarets boss Scott Parker, ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season. With 410 English top-flight appearances to his name, Walker - widely regarded as one of the best defenders in Premier League history - has enjoyed a trophy-laden career during his time as a Manchester City player, winning six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and one Champions League, as well as being named in the Premier League Team of the Year on four occasions. He has 96 England caps to his name and was named in the 2024 UEFA European Championships Team of the Tournament. "I'm delighted to be here. When I spoke to Scott and heard about his plans for next season, it was an opportunity I jumped at. He's done an amazing job here, guiding the Club back to the Premier League with a 100-point haul, and now we're looking forward, together, at being back in the greatest league in the world. "Burnley had a tremendous campaign last season, built on an incredible defensive record, and I can't wait to come in and add my experience and quality to what looks an exciting squad," said Walker in a statement. Walker began his career at boyhood club Sheffield United. His stellar performances for the Blades led to a move to Tottenham Hotspur. There, Walker - after a loan spell back at the Blades, as well as stints at QPR and Aston Villa - flourished, quickly emerging as one of the best right-backs in the world for club and country, leading to a move to Manchester City. That move to the North-West would be the making of Walker, who took his game to new heights with the Citizens, winning an unprecedented Champions League, Premier League and Super Cup treble in 2023/24, three of 18 team trophies he was part of at the Etihad Stadium. Walker is Burnley's fifth summer signing, showing their intentions of wanting to compete in the top division.
