Luka Dončić fights back tears during Mavericks' pregame video tribute in return to Dallas
The Mavericks honored Dončić with a video and Slovenian 'thank you' shirts in his first game back in Dallas since his trade to the Lakers
The Dallas Mavericks showed their appreciation for Luka Dončić in his return to the American Airlines Center on Wednesday. After starring with the franchise for six-and-a-half seasons, Dončić was shipped to the Los Angeles Lakers in a shocking February trade.
The Mavericks hoped to erase any bad blood from the trade by paying tribute to Dončić before he took the court Wednesday. The team put together a pregame video of Dončić's almost seven years in Dallas, including highlights and off-court moments from his time with the franchise.
Dončić was visibly emotional during the tribute, wiping away tears before being announced as part of the Lakers' starting lineup.

Prior to the contest, the team laid out shirts featuring the Slovenian phrase "Hvala za vse" on each seat in the arena. The phrase roughly translates to "thank you so much" or "thank you for everything."

The franchise should be thankful for Dončić's contributions. After being acquired by the Mavericks during the 2018 NBA Draft, Dončić excelled immediately, winning the NBA Rookie of the Year award in his first season.

He got even better from there. Over the next five seasons, Dončić made the All-Star team and was named first-team All-NBA each year. He posted three top-five MVP finishes over that period, and never finished lower than eighth in the voting.
The Mavericks made four playoff appearances with Dončić, getting all the way to the NBA Finals last season. Despite Dončić averaging 29.2 points per game in the Finals, the team fell to the Boston Celtics in five games.
Dončić was once again having a typically good season but was out with a calf injury when he was traded. The deal sparked outrage among Mavericks fans, who showed up in force to protest the move. Shortly after the trade, Dončić thanked the fans for their support.

Given those reactions, it's not a surprise Dončić received a raucous ovation when he took the court Wednesday. Even with the support from Dallas fans, he didn't let that stop him from showing out: Dončić put up 45 points in an easy Lakers win against his old franchise.
After the game, Dončić said that he felt "so many emotions" watching the video.
"It brought tears to my eyes," he said. "I came (to Dallas) as a young kid. ... They made me feel like home. Just a lot of great memories.
"I'm so happy," Dončić added. "I love these fans, I love this city, but it's time to move on."

Dončić admitted he wasn't sure if he'd be able to play well after such an emotional moment pregame. But he said his teammates were the ones who helped him thrive.
"I don't know how I did it, because when I was watching that video I was like, 'There's no way I'm playing this game.' But all my teammates had my back. They really supported me, so I appreciate that," Dončić said.

"Just to be back with the fans that I spent six and a half years with, you know, supporting me like that was just unbelievable," he added.
The Lakers secured a playoff berth with Wednesday night's win and one more victory would mean claiming the No. 3 seed in the West. The Lakers play Houston on Friday and Portland on Sunday.

Marlins top Giants 12-5 to complete series sweep
Kyle Stowers and Agustín Ramírez each homered and the Miami Marlins beat the San Francisco Giants 12-5 on Thursday to complete a three-game series sweep. Xavier Edwards had a two-run double for Miami, which has won four straight overall, five of six, and six straight on the road. Rafael Devers had three hits including a homer and a double for San Francisco, which has lost eight of its last 11. Devers' homer was his 17th and his second in nine games since being acquired by San Francisco last week. The Marlins broke a 5-5 tie in the fifth on Eric Wagaman's two-run double in a three-run inning. Stowers hit a three-run homer in the first and Ramírez hit a two-run shot in the third — both off Giants starter Hayden Birdsong — to give Miami a 5-0 lead. Devers hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third, and the Giants tied it in the fourth when June Hoo Lee's leadoff triple keyed a three-run inning. Birdsong (3-2) allowed seven runs and four hits with four walks in four-plus innings. Josh Simpson (1-0) got the last out of the fourth after Janson Junk allowed five runs and eight hits in 3 2/3 innings. Key moment Marlins manager Clayton McCullough was ejected after umpires warned both benches in the top of the first after Miami shortstop Otto Lopez was hit by a pitch. The warnings followed three Giants players being struck by pitches Wednesday night in a 10-inning 8-5 loss to Miami. Key stat Devers got his 700th career RBI. Up next Marlins RHP Eury Pérez (0-2, 6.17 ERA) will pitch the series opener Friday night against the Diamondbacks RHP Merrill Kelly (7-3, 3.39) in Arizona. Giants RHP Landen Roupp (5-5, 3.67) will pitch for the Giants against the White Sox RHP Aaron Civale (1-4, 5.03) in Chicago.

Davis firefighter heads to world games, spotlights first responder mental health
Every two years, heroes are heralded on a global stage at the World Police and Fire Games, where thousands of athletes come together in competition and community. The games are an Olympic-style multi-sport event featuring dozens of sports that host active and retired first responders at sites across the world. This year, the competition is stateside in Birmingham, Alabama. Local Davis firefighter Bryan ten Bosch is making his third trip out to the games this week. "It's like a full Olympics, it's changed locations. The first time I ever went was Rotterdam in The Netherlands," said Bosch, who has also competed in Winnipeg, Canada. Bosch competes in the decathlon, made up of ten track and field events, and won his first two appearances at the game in his age group. "It's really cool because everybody kind of pulls on each other to get to the end of those ten events," said Bosch. "We're all connected by the same kind of job profession, first responders but we all have different kind of motivations." Traveling to the competition every two years provides a sense of community and a chance to connect. "Supporting each other. At the end we can go to the athlete village, hang out, talk about our experiences on the job, what the world's like," said Bosch. "We're all connected by the same kind of job profession, first responders but we all have different kind of motivations." Bosch's mission at the games is to spotlight mental health for first responders, highlighting his own journey of healing from darker days on the job. "I had a window where I ended up burning out, I didn't like the job, I didn't like the work I was doing. I wasn't taking care of myself physically, mentally," said Bosch. In 2019, Bosch was at the scene the moment that fallen Davis police officer Natalie Corona was shot and killed in the line of duty. "Everybody that was there on scene that day kind of had to deal with it and cope with it in their own ways," said Bosch. The traumatic incident for Bosch sparked a mental health spiral that was only healed only when he rediscovered his love for track and field and prioritized his physical and mental health. "It's a community, it takes a village to take care of each other," said Bosch. "There's a lot of flavors of trauma out there and sometimes one solution doesn't fix all of them. There's all these different treatments out there now, all these resources for first responders to get the help they need. I utilized it then and utilize it now." That's what he wants to spotlight for his fellow first responders, especially as he works to cross the finish line again at the world games. "The common denominator I've found in people that have started taking care of themselves is they've started taking care of themselves physically. It's amazing what taking care of the physical does for the mental," said Bosch. Bosch each year also raises money for a Yolo County charity. For the most recent games, his charity of choice was Officer Natalie Corona's memorial scholarship. This year, Bosch is supporting local animal rescue Hearts for Paws. Bosch has organized an online fundraiser to support his trip and charities.

Deontay Wilder vs. Tyrrell Herndon live results, round-by-round updates, ring walks, start time for Wilder's return
Deontay Wilder vs. Tyrrell Herndon goes down Friday night at the Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kansas. (. Design: Joseph Raines, Yahoo Sports.) Uncrowned has Deontay Wilder vs. Tyrrell Herndon live results, round-by-round updates, highlights, ring walks and start time for the Wilder vs. Herndon fight card on Friday night at the Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kansas. Former heavyweight champion Wilder ends a one-year layoff against the little-known Herndon. Wilder (43-4-1, 42 KOs) formerly held the WBC heavyweight title from 2015 until he lost it in his second of three fights with Tyson Fury in 2020. Wilder has recorded just one win since then, a first-round knockout of Robert Helenius in 2022. The one-time heavyweight champion is coming off back-to-back defeats to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang in Saudi Arabia. Advertisement Herndon (24-5, 15 KOs) also hasn't competed for more than 12 months. Fighting the majority of his career on untelevised shows, Herndon isn't a name familiar to even the most avid boxing fans. He has previously shared the ring with Richard Torrez Jr., Efe Ajagba and Brandon Glanton, while the trio were each in the early stages of their careers, but suffered early losses every time. Wilder hopes the bout with Herndon will be his first of three in 2025, with a view toward building momentum in preparation for a potential major fight — or even another crack at a world heavyweight title — in 2026. Advertisement Wilder vs. Herndon begins at 8 p.m. ET on BLK Prime pay-per-view, with main event ring walks expected around 11 p.m. ET. Follow all of the action with Uncrowned's live results and play-by-play of the main card below.
