Brandon Graham reveals an unexpected rising voice in the Eagles locker room

USA Today7 days ago
Brandon Graham sees something bold in a rising Eagles voice.
They say the name on the front of the jersey is more important than the name on the back. It's a way of life that's truer in football than in basketball. The Philadelphia Eagles are the evidence. Sure, Birds fans will keep an eye on former coaches and players, but there's no abandoning ship when anyone leaves.
That's more of an NBA trait. LeBron James fans were Cleveland Cavaliers fans. They followed him to South Beach, back to Cleveland, and now, they're cheering for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Can you imagine if such a sin were committed in the City of Brotherly Love? It would never happen. The faces change, but the train keeps on running.
Brandon Graham names an heir, one you may not have expected
We've learned a great deal while watching one era of Eagles football bleed into another. The game must be respected, and so many of the rules are familiar.
Retire, or the game will retire you. Those who are lucky retire on their terms. Fletcher Cox, Jason Kelce, and Brandon Graham did that.
They all played for Andy Reid, Chip Kelly, Doug Pederson, and Nick Sirianni. Kelce and Cox retired during the 2024 offseason. Graham called it quits this past March.
When legends ride off into the sunset, there are huge shoes to fill. This wasn't any different. Losing three members of 'The Core Four' meant there were huge shoes to fill, both on the field and in the locker room.
We may have found the emotional leaders necessary to fill Graham's sizable cleats. We've known Nolan Smith could do so for a while, but during an appearance on Exciting Mics, Graham mentioned another, Moro Ojomo. He's the heir to Graham's trash-talking dynasty.
The 15-year legend mentioned another, the usually reserved Jalen Carter, but Carter's endorsement came with a warning label. Per the author of the greatest strip-sack in NFL history, once he gets rolling, it may be hard to reel him back in.
NFL Films has captured Graham's legendary trash-talking moments for years, but Philadelphia is undoubtedly in good hands. Nolan Smith has often mentioned Graham as his big brother. Reed Blankenship expressed, during Exciting Mics, that he has already adopted his former teammate's leadership style. Something tells us the next 15 years of Eagles football will be just as exciting as the last 15.

Ex-Rival Speaks Highly of Philadelphia Eagles

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. On Tuesday, the Philadelphia Eagles hosted former NFL players Will Compton and Taylor Lewan as their practice facility for another day of training camp. As the 'Bussin' With the Boys' hosts are making their way across the league, Compton got a chance to check out how the reigning Super Bowl Champions are doing just months after their big victory. Based on the former division rival's social media post, the Eagles are still thriving. Will Compton's Thoughts on the Birds Few thoughts after attending Eagles training camp: • Hospitality was A+ • Howie Roseman interview dropping next week is 🔥🔥🔥 • Big Dom is everything I hoped he would be ("you are my guys" was said) • AJ Brown is him • The campaign starts now to keep the Exciting Whites together beyond this season (Reed Blankenship is in the final year of his deal) • Eagles fans are still tight about us taking the division in 2015 • Overall an incredible day • Backup QB #16 can sling the rock Few thoughts after attending Eagles training camp: • Hospitality was A+ • Howie Roseman interview dropping next week is 🔥🔥🔥 • Big Dom is everything I hoped he would be ('you are my guys' was said) • AJ Brown is him • The campaign starts now to keep the Exciting Whites… — Will Compton (@_willcompton) August 5, 2025 Beyond the field, Howie Roseman and Dom "Big Dom" DiSandro have become some of the most notable figures within the Eagles' organization. As Howie Roseman has been inside the Eagles' front office since 2000, he's worked his way up the ladder and is in the midst of his second General Manager stint. Roseman is credited with building both of the Eagles' Super Bowl-winning squads. Big Dom has been with the organization since 1999. His main job is Chief Security Officer, but he earned the title of Director of Gameday Coaching Operations in 2024, as the Eagles needed to ensure DiSandro could be on the sidelines with the team on game day. The Redskins won 17-14 MoreThen, there's AJ Brown on the offensive side of the ball, who still seems to be playing a high level heading into the new year. Lately, Brown has been dealing with a minor hamstring issue. Outside of that, he's been praised for dominating in practice throughout the summer. Compton's unexpected takeaway is the praise for the backup quarterback, Tanner McKee. The former Stanford passer was drafted in 2023. The Eagles selected him in the sixth round with the 188th pick. McKee didn't get any playing time in 2023, but he made two appearances last season. McKee threw 45 passes last season, completing 67 percent of his attempts. He totaled 323 yards, tossing four touchdowns and zero interceptions. When the Eagles traded away Kenny Pickett, it was clear that McKee had a strong enough impact to make the team feel confident in the former Stanford standout to become Jalen Hurts' primary backup. So far, it seems like McKee is impressing spectators as the summer rolls on. For more Philadelphia Eagles and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

A.J. Brown: Treylon Burks is a good kid, sad it went down like that

The 2022 trade that sent A.J. Brown to the Eagles in exchange for a first-round pick that the Titans used on Treylon Burks has been a clear win for Brown and the Eagles for some time and the gap won't close anytime soon. Brown has caught 261 passes to help the Eagles reach two Super Bowls and win one in the last three seasons. Burks has been hurt often since entering the NFL and his latest injury is a fractured collarbone that landed him on injured reserve after clearing waivers. He's likely played his final snap for the Titans and his difficult time is in Brown's thoughts when he reflects on the trade. During an appearance on Pardon My Take, Brown was asked his feelings about how lopsided the results of the trade have been. 'I'm grateful that happened,' Brown said. 'I like to say that I outgrew that situation at Tennessee. I'm glad this happened, because I felt like I was meant to shine. We needed a big team with a big market and I think this is the right place and the best fit for me. I am a little sad for Treylon Burks. I wish he could get healthy, because he is a good kid and I talk to him numerous times. I've got his number. It sucks to see it go down like that.' The Brown trade isn't the only reason why the Titans have changed head coaches once and General Managers twice in the last few years, but it's a significant one that won't fully fade from memory in Tennessee until the team has success anywhere in the neighborhood that the Eagles have been in since it went down.

Travis Kelce: I threw the Super Bowl loss in the trash and moved on

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said recently that the team's loss to the Eagles in the Super Bowl gives him 'a little bit more motivation' heading into the 2025 season, but tight end Travis Kelce took a different approach to dealing with the loss. Kelce said in a press conference from training camp on Wednesday that he is taking a page from Don Draper and not thinking about the Super Bowl at all. 'I've thrown that thing in the trash,' Kelce said, via Nate Taylor of 'I've moved on.' Kelce was then asked how quickly he was able to turn the page from the 40-22 loss that blocked the Chiefs' chances at becoming the first team to win three straight Super Bowls. 'It happened sooner than you can imagine,' Kelce said. 'I was pretty focused on this year in the offseason.' There were questions about whether Kelce would return for a 13th season immediately after the loss to the Eagles, but he didn't take too long before announcing that he'd be back. He then turned his attention to making changes to his physique, which is a further sign that he's looking forward rather than backward.
