Google Search Now Lets You Chat with AI Using Voice in New ‘Search Live' Mode

Hans India5 hours ago

Google is ushering in a new era of voice-enabled search with its latest feature—Search Live in AI Mode—now rolling out on the Google app for Android and iOS. Previewed at the recent Google I/O conference, this experimental feature is currently available to users in the United States who have opted into the AI Mode through Google Labs.
This innovative voice interaction capability is powered by a customized version of Google's Gemini AI model, tailored specifically for natural and dynamic conversations. The system draws on Google's robust search infrastructure to deliver real-time, high-quality responses that adapt seamlessly to users' spoken queries.
One of the core technologies behind this feature is query fan-out, which broadens the scope of web content shown to users. This ensures that people receive not just a direct answer, but also a diverse range of sources to explore further.
The new voice feature is designed with mobility and multitasking in mind. For example, users can simply tap the 'Live' icon in the Google app and ask something like, 'What are some tips for preventing a linen dress from wrinkling in a suitcase?' The AI responds aloud, making it easier to get help while your hands are full—whether you're packing or cooking.
Google highlights that users can continue the conversation naturally with follow-ups like, 'What should I do if it still wrinkles?' All while viewing relevant web links on screen that provide deeper context—without disrupting the flow of conversation.
When activated, the interface shows a sparkle-badged waveform icon beneath the search bar—the same used for Gemini Live. Alternatively, users can access it via a new button next to the search field. The full-screen view supports both light and dark themes, featuring a gradient 'G' in the top-left corner and an arc-shaped waveform in AI Mode colors.
Additional controls include a pill-shaped Mute/Unmute button, and a 'Transcript' toggle for switching to text-based interaction. Importantly, this feature supports background operation, allowing the voice session to continue even if the user locks their screen or opens another app.
To end the session, users can tap the 'X' in the corner. The overflow menu provides access to Search history and Voice settings, including four distinct modes: Cassini, Cosmo, Neso, and Terra—each offering different interaction styles or personalities.
As voice-based AI becomes more central to how we engage with technology, Google's latest feature is a major step toward making search more conversational, personalized, and hands-free.

Samsung is likely to launch its first Android XR headset soon and here is everything we know about it

Samsung's first Android XR headset might finally be close to its official debut. After months of appearances at different events, leaks and teaser videos, a new report out of South Korea suggests that Samsung will unveil the headset — currently codenamed Project Moohan — on September 29 in its home country. If this report is accurate, the headset will go on sale in South Korea on October 13, with a global rollout expected to follow soon after. Of course, Samsung hasn't confirmed any of this just will be Samsung's first Extended Reality (XR) headset, and it's being developed in partnership with Google. The headset will run Android XR, a version of Android built specifically for mixed-reality devices. Android XR is the result of a joint effort between Samsung and Google, much like their collaboration on recent versions of Wear OS for smartwatches. The new platform is also expected to come with built-in Gemini AI, giving users access to smart tools and contextual information right inside their headset. For example, imagine using Google Maps in a 3D interface or receiving AI-generated assistance while navigating or working in the hood, the headset will be powered by Qualcomm's XR2+ Gen 2 chip, which is reportedly built on Samsung's own 4nm process. This should help deliver smooth performance along with balanced power efficiency, both of which are key for wearable Even though it hasn't launched yet, the headset has been seen in public a few times. Samsung showed off early prototypes earlier this year at MWC 2024 and the Galaxy S25 launch, and is expected to tease it once again during its July Unpacked event alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip for features, the device is said to support both mixed reality and full virtual reality experiences. Samsung is reportedly focusing on making the headset lightweight and comfortable, though specific design details remain unknown. Rumours also hint at a sleek form factor that's more user-friendly than bulkier course, all of this comes as competition in the XR space grows. Apple's Vision Pro has already made the headlines with its high-end approach, but it also raised eyebrows for its price and bulky design. Samsung may be aiming to strike a better balance, offering top-tier performance and a good user experience, but at a more accessible price said, nothing is set in stone until Samsung makes it official. But if the latest reports are accurate, we might not have to wait long to see what Project Moohan is really all tuned to India Today Tech for all the latest on Samsung's upcoming Android XR headset.

Canva rolls out new AI video clip feature powered by Google's Veo 3 model

Canva is bringing Google's latest and most advanced AI video generation model to its platform. The design software company announced on Thursday, June 19, that users will be able to tap into Veo 3 through a newly launched Canva AI feature called 'Create a Video Clip' in order to generate an eight second-long video clip with sound. With this feature powered by Veo 3, users will be able to easily turn their pitch deck opener or social media post into an AI-generated video teaser. The Create a Video Clip feature is accessible from the Canva homepage. It is available to Canva Pro, Teams, and Enterprise subscribers as well as Canva Nonprofit users. However, users will be restricted to five AI-generated videos every month for the time being. 'We're one of the first platforms to integrate Google's Veo 3 video generation model, just weeks after its debut. Create a Video Clip makes this advanced technology accessible to millions on Canva, empowering anyone to produce dynamic, polished videos with high-quality visuals, realistic motion, and synchronized audio,' Danny Wu, the head of AI products at Canva, said in a blog post. The 'Create a Video Clip' feature is also available for paid users of Leonardo AI, the generative AI content and research platform acquired by Canva last year. Follow these steps to create an AI-generated video using the Create a Video Clip feature that is powered by Google's Veo 3 model: – Go to Canva AI from the homepage or sidebar – Select Create a Video Clip – Enter a prompt based on the video you want to generate – The video will open in Video Editor where you can fine-tune it using Canva tools such as Brand Kit to add text, music, etc. 'From there, it can also be copied into other design formats – whether it's a social post presentation, or campaign asset,' Canva said. In order to prevent the generation of harmful content, Canva said that its new feature is protected by Canva Shield, which is designed to moderate the inputs and outputs from these tools. Canva on Wednesday also revealed plans to acquire an AI-powered creative intelligence platform called MagicBrief as the company looks to broaden the scope of its AI tech stack. Earlier this year, Canva introduced its all-new Visual Suite 2.0, which includes an AI coding tool, a voice-enabled AI feature, and an AI-powered spreadsheet generator. Magic Studio and Canva AI have been used over 18 billion times so far, the company revealed.

YouTube's AI Push In Shorts Videos Could End The World Of Creators: Here's The Reason

Last Updated: YouTube Shorts videos could soon get AI-powered support from Veo 3 which means you don't need a camera or a script to make videos. YouTube is taking AI to disrupt its creator market by offering Shorts videos that can be created using basic text prompts. The video streaming platform intends to bring Google's Veo 3 AI model to the feature which makes shooting a video and creating a script redundant in a big way. The integration of Veo 3 into YouTube Shorts is expected later this year and the update was shared by YouTube CEO Neal Mohan at an event recently. Like any other AI model launched this year, you can generate content by offering text prompts. Google is aiming to go AI-centric with most of its products but Shorts pivoting to AI could mean trouble for those who make a living because of the platform. YouTube's AI Push For Shorts: Worrying Signs Veo 3 AI model works with Google's paid AI plans so YouTube will need to unlock that aspect to allow people to use the feature. AI content has become a concern for privacy and deep fake experts and creating videos using text prompts could go haywire without adequate moderation in place. The company is seeing over 200 billion views per day on Shorts, which translates into a hefty pay for the creators. Does using AI change that model for both the parties, certainly but YouTube will need to be smart with its plans and share them with the community to avoid facing heavy backlash. We have already seen AI models hallucinate content and companies face copyright cases for allegedly infringing content. YouTube could also play into the hands of its rivals by tempting the creators to jump ship and consider TikTok and Instagram Reels as their next business avenue if the Shorts AI evolution goes ahead.
