El-Sisi rejects Palestinians displacement in call with Abbas - Foreign Affairs

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi affirmed Friday Egypt's firm and categorical rejection of the displacement of Palestinians from their land during a phone call with Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas.
According to the Egyptian presidency, El-Sisi further underscored Egypt's ongoing intensive efforts to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, and secure the release of captives and detainees.
During the call, the Palestinian president expressed his sincere appreciation for Egypt's unwavering positions in support of the Palestinian cause, praising Cairo's firm stance in rejecting the displacement of the Palestinian people.
Abbas also appreciated the ongoing humanitarian aid provided by the Egyptian state to the Palestinian people amid the catastrophic humanitarian conditions in Gaza.
He affirmed that the Palestinian state stands with the Egyptian leadership, army, government, and people in confronting any attempts to destabilise its security and stability.
Additionally, Abbas emphasised the importance of an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the release of captives and detainees, and the entry of humanitarian aid.
He warned of the gravity of the Israeli government's recent decision to reoccupy the Gaza Strip and displace its population to the south. This decision, Abbas said, constituted a new crime added to the series of Israeli violations in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
Moreover, the Palestinian president affirmed that he was determined to continue all levels of political action to mobilise regional and international support against these plans. These actions include approaching the UN Security Council, the League of Arab States, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
He also stressed the need to enable the Palestinian state to assume its full responsibilities in the Gaza Strip, including security, with Arab and international support.
Furthermore, Abbas emphasised that the Israeli occupation must withdraw its forces from Gaza to allow the restoration of a unified law, including the retention of weapons by a legitimate authority, under the umbrella of a Palestinian state.
On Friday, Israel's political-security cabinet approved a plan to seize control of Gaza City, hence expanding military operations in the strip. Israel's decision comes amidst mounting criticism at home and abroad of its genocidal war on Gaza, which Israel has waged since 7 October 2023.
The decision also comes following multiple failed attempts to mediate a ceasefire and rising international condemnation of Israel's starvation policies against the Palestinians in Gaza, particularly women and children.
On Tuesday, El-Sisi described the war in Gaza as no longer about captives or political objectives but "a war of starvation, a genocide," and an attempt to liquidate the Palestinian cause.
During a press conference in Cairo, he accused the international community of standing by, watching the lives of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank become a political bargaining card.
Since October 2023, the Israeli aggression on Gaza has left over 60,000 Palestinians killed, and more than 150,000 others injured, most of them women and children.
