TG govt giving big push to tribal education: MLA
Khanapur: Local constituency MLA Veduma Bojju Patel said that if there is to be a change in the lives of tribals, it is possible only with quality education. On Saturday, he participated as the chief guest at a meeting organised by Gondu Sanskritika Samaj on the topic of education and its importance in Kienjhar town centre of Odisha state.
Elaborating on the educational facilities provided by the Telangana government in the State, he explained that to provide quality education to Backward Classes the government brought many reforms that are yielding positive results.
'Special attention is being paid to the health of students studying at ashram schools, especially in tribal agency areas, by providing education, food, and accommodation facilities,' said the MLA. 'Since 2014, ashrams, gurukuls, TWS schools, junior and degree colleges, Sainik schools, modern science labs and libraries have been established for tribals in the State, and experienced teachers have been appointed to provide corporate-level education,' he said.
'Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is making special efforts to strengthen the education system in Telangana and is setting up Integrated Residential Schools in remote rural areas,' he added.
'Education is the only way to gain recognition in the society. Tribal youth should pursue higher education and achieve their desired goals.'

Medigadda cracks: Vigilance panel indicts L&T, 30 irrigation officials; recommends action
1 2 Hyderabad: The Telangana Vigilance Commission (TVC) has recommended criminal and departmental action against construction giant L&T Precision Engineering and Systems (PES) and over 30 top irrigation officials—both serving and retired—for their alleged roles in the structural collapse of block 7 of the Medigadda barrage, which is part of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS). The charges include corruption, criminal conspiracy, and gross dereliction of duty, with officials accused of blindly approving flawed designs and allowing substandard execution, resulting in massive public money loss. In a scathing report, the TVC called for stringent action under various legal provisions, including the Prevention of Corruption Act of 1988, Dam Safety Act of 2021, and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act of 1984. Criminal charges under IPC sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 336 (endangering life), 409 (criminal breach of trust), 418 (cheating), 423 (dishonest execution of documents), and 426 (mischief) have also been recommended. The commission held L&T PES squarely responsible for engineering failures that led to the collapse of the piers. It pointed out that the contractor falsely claimed completion of barrage works despite not fulfilling key requirements outlined in the supplemental agreement. "The agency reportedly deviated from its approved method for constructing secant piles, triggering a 'piping action' under the raft foundation—leading to cavities and the eventual sinking of block 7," the TVC said in its report. The commission also recommended recovery of the full cost of replacing the collapsed block from the contractor. Once touted as former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's flagship irrigation initiative and a symbol of Telangana's engineering ambition, the KLIS allegedly became a fodder for political parties in the run-up to 2023 assembly elections. Executed at a cost of over ₹1.2 lakh crore, the project has faced mounting criticism for inflated costs, rushed clearances, and structural failures. " Top officials under fire Seventeen senior irrigation officials were directly blamed for the collapse. Among them are C Muralidhar, former engineer-in-chief (ENC), who served for nearly eight years; Bhupathi Raju Nagendra Rao, ENC (operations and maintenance); T Srinivas, chief engineer, Central Designs Organisation (CDO); V Phanibhushan Sharma, director of works and accounts; Mohammed Ajmal Khan, deputy CE, ENC office; N Venkateshwarlu, retired ENC, Kaleshwaram project; Kotte Sudhakar Reddy, CE, Ramagundam circle (in-charge); engineers from Mahadevpur division, including B Venkata Ramana Reddy, Sardar Omkar Singh, and Ch Thirupathi Rao; B Venkateshwarlu, retired CE, quality control division; quality control engineers V Ajaya Kumar, PA Venkata Krishna, and M Raghu Ram; A Narender Reddy, retired ENC; and H Basavaraj of CDO. Seven retired senior officers—Muralidhar, N Venkateshwarlu, G Hari Hara Chary, B Venkateshwarlu, Ch Gangadhar, Ajaya Kumar, and Narender Reddy—will face inquiry under the Commissions of Inquiry Act. In addition to the core group, 33 other engineers will face departmental penalties for various lapses in design, execution, and supervision. The report also targets principal secretaries and their subordinate staff in the irrigation department who served between 2015 and the time of the collapse in Oct 2023 and recommended action against them. It found that senior bureaucrats "blindly approved" critical project proposals without examining their technical merits, despite repeated red flags. The TVC has advised that disciplinary actions proceed simultaneously, even if police investigations or court proceedings are still underway. The commission's recommendations come even as the Justice (Retd) PC Ghose one-man Commission of Inquiry continues its probe into the irregularities. CM sets $3 trillion economy target for T by 2047 when India turns 100
1 2 Hyderabad: On the occasion of the 11th Telangana Formation Day on Monday, chief minister A Revanth Reddy set a new target of making the state a $3 trillion economy by 2047 and increasing its contribution to the GDP from 5% to 10%. Speaking at the Formation Day celebrations at Parade Grounds, the CM presented the progress report of the 16-month-old Congress govt and sought the cooperation of all political parties, bureaucracy, industrialists and all sections in the state to make Telangana number one in the country. He said the state govt was working in mission mode to ensure that Telangana plays a pivotal role in developing India into a $30 trillion economy by 2047 when the country would celebrate its Independence centenary. "As part of it, the Telangana Rising 2047 action plan has been prepared to turn the state into a $1 trillion economy in the next 10 years and $3 trillion by 2047. The govt has plans to not only develop Telangana as the number one state in the country but also make it capable of competing with the world," the CM said. The state govt has already inked agreements with companies for more than Rs 3 lakh crore investments. IT giants such as Google, Microsoft, Cognizant, and HCL were already expanding their operations in Hyderabad, he said, adding that this was the first step under 'Telangana Rising' project. "Plans are in the pipeline to develop Hyderabad on a par with other developed metros in the world. A Future City is also being developed in 30,000 acres with state-of-the-art facilities which will be a destination for investments from around the world. The awards of Gaddar and Anjaiah were collected by their families, while there was no one present from Yadagiri's family. Venkanna's award was received by his daughter as he is on a foreign tour. The prestigious Kaloji Sahitya Puraskaram was presented to Nalimela Bhaskar. As many as 19 police officers were presented with Medals for Gallantry and 11 other officers with Medal for Meritorious Service by the CM.

Telangana govt mulls raising retirement age of staff to tide over financial crunch
Hyderabad: The Congress govt is seriously considering raising the retirement age of state employees by three to four years from the current 61. This would provide a much-needed relief to the govt as it will not have to pay nearly Rs 5,000 crore in a lump sum as retirement benefits to 10,000 employees retiring in 2025. Another 9,000 employees will superannuate in 2026. Also, the govt is yet to pay Rs 5,000 crore owed to 9,700 employees who retired in 2024. The retirement age of state staff was last raised from 58 to 61 by then chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao-led BRS govt in 2021. In neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, it is 62 years. The issue came up during a review meeting by chief minister A Revanth Reddy with ministers on Sunday where the demands of govt employees' joint action committee (JAC) was also discussed. The JAC has submitted its demands to the three-member IAS officers' committee headed by Navin Mittal, which, in turn, submitted its recommendations to the cabinet sub-committee headed by deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka. Sources said that while some ministers suggested increasing the retirement age by two more years, others proposed four years to make it 65. Bhatti was also present at the meeting. The previous BRS govt had faced severe criticism from unemployed youth who had blamed it for lost job opportunities due to the retirement age enhancement. Also, if the retirement age is indeed raised, the Congress govt will have to grapple with another issue – keep such employees at current pay scales or allow increments every year. A JAC leader told TOI that pending bills of govt employees and pensioners have mounted to over Rs 10,000 crore, including retirement benefits, and another Rs 5,000 crore would be required by end of this year. "Enhancing retirement age by just one or two years would not help the govt. It has to be at least three to four years. The average retirement benefits of each employee comes to anywhere between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 50 lakh. Many who retired in 2024 are still waiting for their retirement benefits. The govt has to take a decision soon," said the JAC leader. The cabinet meeting on June 5 will also discuss whether to release one or two of the five pending Dearness Allowance of govt employees. The cabinet is expected to give approval for revision of medical treatment rates that were fixed in 2015-16. The govt is also likely to approve non-financial demands of the JAC such as general transfers, sources said.
