
PayNet, Bank of China team up to simplify financial flows
The MoU was signed by PayNet chief marketing officer, Gary Yeoh and BOC Malaysia deputy chief executive officer (CEO), Datuk Alvin Tay on May 27, 2025, witnessed by PayNet group CEO, Farhan Ahmad and Bank of China (Hong Kong) vice-chairman and chief executive, Sun Yu.
The collaboration aims to enhance cross-border transaction efficiency, leveraging Paynet's robust domestic infrastructure and Bank of China's expertise in international settlement and renminbi clearing.
Tay said the MoU represents a step forward in both countries' broader strategy to enhance settlement solutions and strengthen financial collaboration.
"By working with PayNet, BOC Malaysia aims to deliver more accessible and innovative cross-border services that support the growing needs of our clients in both Malaysia and China," he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Farhan said the partnership signals a joint commitment to creating seamless and secure financial linkages that are both accessible and scalable.
"We see this as a vital step toward realising greater financial interoperability and inclusion across the region,' he added.
The partnership also aligns with regional efforts under the ASEAN Payment Connectivity initiative and supports broader aspirations to improve interoperability and digital financial inclusion across Asia. - Bernama

Bank Negara widens local currency banking network
KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara Malaysia (Bank Negara), Bank Indonesia (BI), and the Bank of Thailand (BOT) have jointly announced the appointment of additional qualified commercial banks to operationalise the Local Currency Transaction Framework (LCTF). In a statement today, Bank Negara said these qualified banks, known as appointed cross-currency dealers (ACCDs), will facilitate cross-border settlement of trade and investment between the respective countries. The initiative follows several enhancements to the LCTF announced on Feb 17, 2025. "The expanded ACCD network will strengthen customer outreach, enhance market access to local currency liquidity, and provide businesses with enhanced options for cross-border transactions between Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. "Bank Negara, BI, and BOT continue to support trade and investment growth through closer financial collaboration under the LCTF," it added. For the Malaysia–Indonesia corridor (MYR-IDR), the appointed Malaysian banks are AmBank (M) Bhd, Bank of China (Malaysia) Bhd, OCBC Bank Malaysia Bhd, Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Bhd, and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Malaysia Bhd. On the Indonesian side, the appointed banks are PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk, PT Bank OCBC NISP Tbk, PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk, and Bank of China (Hong Kong) Ltd Jakarta Branch. For the Malaysia–Thailand corridor (MYR-THB), the Malaysian banks appointed are AmBank (M) Bhd, Bank of China (Malaysia) Bhd, Hong Leong Bank Bhd, OCBC Bank Malaysia Bhd, and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Malaysia Bhd. The Thai counterpart is Bank of China (Thai) Public Company Ltd. For the Indonesia–Thailand corridor (IDR-THB), the Indonesian banks appointed are PT Bank OCBC NISP Tbk and Bank of China (Hong Kong) Ltd Jakarta Branch, while the Thai bank appointed is Bank of China (Thai) Public Company Ltd.

PayNet joins MIT CSAIL's research initiative to advance AI-driven financial innovation
PETALING JAYA: Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet) has become the sole Malaysian founding member of MIT CSAIL's research initiative, FinTechAI@CSAIL, reinforcing its leadership in artificial intelligence-driven financial innovation. 'The rise of AI presents both an opportunity and a responsibility. As Malaysia's national payments infrastructure provider, we're committed to shaping technology that safeguards trust and financial sovereignty.
