‘The Menu Keeps Changing': Cava CEO Says Tariffs Are Fueling Uncertainty
Brett Schulman said his head is spinning as he tries to figure out how much tariffs could increase the cost of his restaurant chain's pulp-based paper bowls.
Schulman, chief executive of Mediterranean restaurant chain Cava, said he shares President Trump's concerns about U.S. trade imbalances, but the administration's handling of the tariffs is making planning difficult for his business and other companies.
The chain's U.S. bowl supplier sources its pulp from Canada, which is currently exempt from additional duties but Schulman fears that could change. Cava also sources some of its packaging from overseas suppliers and gets items like olive oil and Kalamata olives from Greece.

A couple of the cruises are timed to coincide with local events, including the Venice Film Festival and the Monaco Yacht Show. The earliest sailing currently available departs Marseille on June 6, 2026. The Corinthian will span 720 feet. Its smallest suites will be 484 square feet, and its largest will measure 2,476 square feet. They all include elements of wood, leather and marble. Each will have bay windows. An extendable marina at the sailing yacht's stern will offer the opportunity to relax at the water's edge. The yacht also will have a 55-foot lap pool. There will be five restaurants, eight bars, a cabaret, a movie theater and a spa. When propelled solely by wind, the Corinthian is expected to reach speeds of up to 19.5 miles per hour. Its sails will be rigid, each at 16,100 square feet, and the inclinable masts will be 328 feet. The Orient Express Olympian will be the Corinthian's sister ship and is scheduled to debut in 2027. Spain will stick to 2% of GDP defence spending goal, defence minister says
MADRID (Reuters) -Spain stands by its defence spending target of 2% of GDP, Spanish Defence Minister Margarita Robles said on Thursday, as pressure grows from NATO leadership and the United States for the Mediterranean country to increase it. "We think that this 2% is enough to meet the responsibilities we have committed to," Robles said. Spain will not veto a NATO decision to raise the defence spending target during a summit to be held later this month in The Hague, she said. "What is important is that each country is able to meet the objectives it has set itself," she added. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced in April a plan to increase military spending by 10.5 billion euros ($11.99 billion) this year, bringing forward to this year a goal to meet the 2% of GDP target from its previously self-imposed deadline of 2029. Despite the new plan Spain, which spent just 1.3% on defence in 2024, the lowest among NATO members, is under pressure to spend even more. European defence commissioner Andrius Kubilius said on May 3 Spain ought to raise spending to 3% of GDP. ($1 = 0.8755 euros)
