I had the chance to head out on the water with ILCA7 sailors Arthur Farley and Harry White. Arthur began the day undefeated but was narrowly beaten in his second race by teammate Harry. However, with three races squeezed in due to shifting forecasts, Arthur bounced back with a strong win in the third.

The course tested even the best sailors—starting in mist, progressing through showers, and ending under blue skies. The changing winds made it a physically and mentally demanding competition. Team Manager Tony offered tactical advice from the coaching boat, while camaraderie between the sailors remained high throughout.

Later in the day, Oliver Mayo stormed to another victory in the ILCA6 class, showcasing impressive form and determination.
Over on the golf course, Sophie Beardsall is currently in third place for the Ladies, while Christopher Hayward is sitting in second for the Men's. With another strong showing expected tomorrow, a medal finish is well within reach for both.

On the athletics track, Archie Pearson took on the 1500m Final. He set a bold pace early on but faded to finish 8th overall in 4:04.80. Sophie Hogton ran a determined Semi-Final in the 200m, placing fourth.
The Patey twins, Jacob and Noah, found themselves in a sparsely contested event, which meant medals were capped at Gold. Despite a challenging hurdle section, Jacob was narrowly beaten in the final stretch.
In badminton, the men's team faced tough seeded opposition but performed admirably. Isobel Honnor and Anna Showan both won their matches and progress to the next round tomorrow, continuing their strong run in the tournament.
The Ladies Football Team has faced a punishing schedule of back-to-back matches. A tough 4-0 defeat against Jersey was a blow, but with a rest day tomorrow, they are aiming to finish the week strong in their upcoming match against Hitra.

Out on the course in the Men's Individual Mountain Bike Criterium, Ewan Cook led the IOW charge, placing 9th overall. He was followed by Oliver Nolan (18th) and Devon Badman (21st). Young rising talent Alfie Haydon, transitioning from motocross to MTB, impressed with his agility and speed to claim a solid 24th place.
Every evening, the team gathers to celebrate not just wins and medals but personal bests and milestones. With the halfway point now passed, tiredness is setting in—but so is an even stronger sense of unity.

Soaked Scheffler battles elements to make solid British Open start
World number one Scottie Scheffler blamed wild weather conditions for his wayward driving, but the American still shot a three-under-par first round at the British Open to sit one shot off the lead on Thursday. Scheffler, playing alongside former Claret Jug winners Shane Lowry and Collin Morikawa, got caught in torrential rain midway through his opening round at Royal Portrush. "Really only had one swing I wasn't too happy with on maybe the second hole, but outside of that, I felt like I hit a lot of good tee shots, hit the ball really solid, so definitely a good bit of confidence for the next couple rounds." Scheffler made headlines on the eve of the tournament when he said his life was "not a fulfilling" one despite his status at the top of the sport. The 29-year-old said the "euphoric feeling" from winning a golf tournament lasts barely a few minutes before he moves onto his next target. Scheffler said he has received nothing but support from the rest of the field over his comments. "At times I feel like maybe I should be a little less honest. Maybe I shouldn't have said the stuff I said yesterday because now I'm going to get asked about it more," he added. "But really it's just a matter of perspective, and I've had some players come up to me and say that they feel and think the same things. Lowry 'fought' first-tee nerves on Portrush return
Shane Lowry felt he "managed to handle" himself well during his first round of the 153rd Open Championship at Portrush on Thursday. The Irishman, who lifted the Claret Jug when the championship was last staged at Portrush in 2019, said he had "mentally fought with this round of golf" for a number of weeks. Three birdies and two bogeys saw him finish one under in a round played through the worst of Thursday's rain. "Everything is great, I'm happy," said the world number 18. "I've fought with this round of golf in my head for a few weeks now. I knew it wasn't going to be easy. "Any time you shoot one-under-par around Portrush in those conditions, I think is decent." Lowry likened his nerves on the first tee to those experienced at the Ryder Cup. "The first tee shot wasn't that easy. I wasn't feeling very comfortable there. "It's going to be all right for the rest of the week. I just wanted to get my tournament under way. "Obviously I want so much to do well in this tournament. I want so much to give myself a chance on Sunday." Lowry concluded his round during Rory McIlroy's opening holes but the 38-year-old was still afforded a rousing reception as he finished up with a par. "I wasn't expecting 18 to be full with Rory out on the course," he added. "It was pretty cool. The crowd have been amazing all week. "I won the last time here, and I'm trying to use it to my advantage."

British Open Round 1 leaderboard: Scottie Scheffler makes late run to get in contention
The final major of the golf season is underway. Is it too soon? That's the question Jay Busbee asked earlier this week, but regardless, it's here in the form of the 153rd British Open. This year's host is Royal Portrush, the only course in all of Ireland to ever host The Open. That instantly made Rory McIlroy the overwhelming favorite for fans outside the ropes. The last time Portrush hosted the event, in 2019, McIlroy famously hit his drive on the very first hole out of bounds, leading to a quadruple bogey eight and, eventually, an early exit from the tournament before the weekend began. Fellow countryman Shane Lowry went on to win the tournament, so Ireland did get to celebrate. Now McIlroy is back, as the second favorite behind only world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. And he bogeyed the first hole this time around, so he's already off to a better start. Scheffler started in the early wave and, despite a few early hiccups, has put himself smack in contention thanks to two birdies in his final three holes. A 3-under 68 has him just one shot back of the clubhouse co-leaders Matt Fitzpatrick, Haotong Li and Jacob Skov Olesen. We've made our picks to win, which you can find here.
