‘AFCON is My Goal': Chadi Riad Determined After Injury Comeback
The 22-year-old Moroccan international, who also featured for Real Betis under Manuel Pellegrini, is now hoping to reclaim his place in both club and country line-ups.
Speaking to BeIN Sports journalist Mahdi Foudi, Riad reflected on his journey from Barcelona's academy: 'I think it's the best soccer school in the world. They train you in an incredible way. Thanks to Masia I made a big jump in my level, which allowed me to reach professional football.'
Riad added that 'Oliver Glasner had a strong interest in my qualities as a defender. But from what I heard from Diogo Friedman, they told me that Crystal Palace is a great team, where I will be able to continue developing my abilities.'
After moving from the Spanish League to the English League, Riad said that there is a big difference. Riad said that in Spain it's more peaceful because it relies on a tactical approach, but in the English League it's more physical effort.
'It was a bit hard in the beginning, because of the new League but also the new environment,' he added.
His progress was halted when Riad suffered a ligament injury during a training session: 'Everyone goes through hard times, but it is about how you get over it and think to take the best out of the situation.'
During the World Cup qualifiers, Riad partnered with Nayef Aguerd in the backline when Morocco beat Congo Brazzaville 6-0 in Agadir. The defender scored the second goal for the Atlas Lions in the 16th minute.
The defender expressed gratitude to his coaches and teammates for their support during recovery.
'AFCON is my goal. I'm working hard to come back and earn Walid Regragui's trust. Starter or substitute, the main thing is to be there with Morocco.' Tags: afconChadi RiadCrystal PalaceMorocco national teamWalid Regragui

Benjdida Joins Maghreb de Fes After Belgian Spell
Maghreb de Fes have completed the signing of striker Soufiane Benjdida as they continue to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window. The Moroccan club confirmed the move on Wednesday, announcing that Benjdida has signed a contract until the end of the 2027-28 season. The 23-year-old joins from Belgian side RWD Molenbeek, where he played last season after a spell at Standard Liège. Benjdida is no stranger to Moroccan football, having previously featured in the Botola Pro with Raja Casablanca, where he built his reputation before moving abroad. Across the 2023/24 season, he made 25 appearances, scoring seven goals and providing one assist. In the last 2024/25 campaign, he has featured in 26 games, scoring three times and adding one assist. El Khannouss Nears Crystal Palace Move
Leicester City midfielder Bilal El Khannouss is nearing a move to Crystal Palace, with a deal worth around $41m close to being agreed, according to Sky Sports. The 21-year-old has told Leicester of his desire to join Palace, who see him as a potential replacement for Eberechi Eze. Talks are progressing and there is broad agreement on the fee, but Palace are still weighing up their options before committing. Leicester, relegated last season, continue to operate under financial strain. They have already lost goalkeeper Mads Hermansen to West Ham this summer and could see further departures before the window closes. El Khannouss has been one of the few positives in a difficult period for the Foxes. He has played all three games this season across competitions, providing two assists in the opening-day win over Sheffield Wednesday. Palace are also monitoring Southampton's Tyler Dibling, but the 18-year-old would cost in excess of $58m, making El Khannouss a more realistic option. The Belgian-born Moroccan has been widely expected to leave Leicester following their relegation, and a move to Selhurst Park could offer him the prospect of European football. El Khannouss remains under contract at Leicester, but a switch to Palace would end a long-running transfer saga and bring much-needed funds to the Championship club. Raja Casablanca Lift Transfer Ban After Multi-Million Settlement
Raja Casablanca have lifted their transfer ban after paying more than 31 million dirhams to settle 36 domestic and international disputes. The Moroccan club confirmed the cases involved FIFA rulings, local complaints, warnings and contract terminations. Officials described the settlement as a decisive moment in restructuring the club ahead of the 2025/26 season. In a statement, Raja said the breakthrough was achieved 'thanks to coordinated mobilisation and the structural support provided by the institutional investor Ports4Impact,' calling it 'a decisive step in its reform path and a launchpad for the new season.' The club added: '31 million dirhams were allocated to settle 36 cases, including disputes with FIFA and local bodies, as well as warnings and contract termination protocols. This now allows the club to fully focus on its sporting objectives and rebuild its football project on solid foundations.' Raja also sent a message to supporters: 'Today the club opens a new era based on discipline, transparency and strong organisation, with a clear vision for a more stable future. The unified goal of all components is to return the team to its natural place at the top.' Club president Jawad Ziyat reinforced that message saying: 'We have closed a difficult chapter, but the important part begins now. Together with our fans, our players and all the living forces of the club, we will return Raja to its natural place: at the top.' The board has confirmed Tunisian coach Lassaad Chabbi will remain in charge for the new season, with plans to appoint a sporting director to work alongside him on a long-term strategy. Raja have also parted ways with Marouane Zila, Mauritanian midfielder Mouhsine Bodda and Tunisian defender Hani Amamou, describing the move as a way to avoid future disputes and balance the squad. In addition, four academy players have been promoted to the senior team, while five others will go on loan to gain experience. Preparations for the new campaign continue under Chabbi's supervision.
