Tesla approves $30bn stock award for CEO Elon Musk

Tesla has approved an interim stock award worth about $30 billion for Elon Musk and said it would put a longer-term chief executive compensation strategy to a vote at the electric vehicle maker's November 6 annual meeting. The new agreement includes 96 million shares of the car maker that will vest if Mr Musk continues to serve in the top post for another two years, the company said on Monday in a regulatory filing. The restricted stock has an exercise price of $23.34, equal to the price in a deal originally granted in 2018. Shares in Tesla rose 2.7 per cent to $310.80 before regular trading in New York. The board emphasised the importance of retaining Mr Musk, saying in a shareholder letter that the award was a first step 'good faith' payment. 'After all, a 'deal is a deal.'' The move comes after a prior compensation package valued in excess of $50 billion was voided by the Delaware Chancery Court after a shareholder lawsuit. That is currently being appealed and a special board committee has been exploring ways to offer Mr Musk a new compensation agreement after shifting Tesla's legal home to Texas last year. The proposal underscores Mr Musk's grip on the company and could ensure that he won't relinquish the chief executive title in the near term. Mr Musk has served as the car maker's top executive since 2008. He told Bloomberg in an interview in May that he is committed to still being at the helm in five years. Tesla's board is sticking with Mr Musk despite his competing priorities. Besides overseeing four other companies, politics has taken up a lot of Mr Musk's attention this year. His decision to bankroll President Donald Trump's re-election campaign and lead the Department of Government Efficiency's effort to remake the federal government sparked a backlash against the electric vehicle maker.

Turkey submits draft proposal to Iraq to renew, expand energy agreement

Turkey has submitted a draft proposal to Iraq to renew and expand an energy agreement between the two countries to include cooperation in oil, gas, petrochemicals and electricity, an Iraqi oil ministry official told the state news agency. The statement came after Ankara announced the end of a decades-old agreement covering the Kirkuk-Ceyhan oil pipeline. "The Ministry of Oil is in the process of reviewing the draft agreement sent by the Turkish side and negotiating with them regarding it to reach a formula that serves the interests of Iraq and Turkey", the Iraqi oil ministry official added. The 1.6 million barrel-per-day Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline has been offline since 2023 after an arbitration court ruled Ankara should pay $1.5 billion in damages for unauthorised Iraqi exports between 2014 and 2018. Turkey is appealing the ruling. Turkey still wants to revive the oil pipeline with Iraq, a senior Turkish official told Reuters earlier on Monday. In a decision published in its Official Gazette on Monday, Turkey said the existing deal dating back to the 1970s - the Turkey-Iraq Crude Oil Pipeline Agreement - and all subsequent protocols or memorandums would be halted from July 27, 2026. Iraq and Turkey have been working to resume oil flows from the pipeline. Ankara said in late 2023 that the pipeline was ready to receive Iraq's oil but talks between Baghdad, Iraq's Kurdistan Regional Government and independent oil producers were not able to reach an agreement on terms. The Turkish official said the pipeline had the potential to become a "highly active and strategic pipeline for the region". The person added that Turkey had invested heavily in its maintenance, and noted its importance for regional projects like the Development Road - a planned trade route involving Turkey and Iraq. "A new and vibrant phase for the Iraq-Turkey pipeline will benefit both countries and the region as a whole," the Turkish official said, without giving details of what Ankara wanted the new agreement to include. Turkey sees the Development Road initiative - a high-speed road and rail link, running from Iraq's port city of Basrah on the Gulf to the Turkish border and later to Europe - as an opportunity to extend the pipeline further south. Baghdad allocated initial funding for the project in 2023.

Outcomes after ICC Annual Conference in Singapore

The International Cricket Council (ICC) held its Annual Conference in Singapore, where the Board received an update on progress relating to the support for displaced women cricketers of Afghan descent. This initiative is being advanced through a collaborative effort led by the ICC, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and Cricket Australia (CA), under the supervision of ICC Deputy Chair Mr Imran Khwaja. The programme aims to deliver structured support through high-performance initiatives, domestic playing opportunities, and engagement at key ICC global events, including the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 in India and the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 in England. In relation to USA Cricket, the ICC reiterated its previous position and confirmed that the organisation remains on notice. USA Cricket is required to undertake comprehensive governance reforms, including but not limited to completing free and fair elections within a three-month period. The Board, however, reserves the right to take such actions as it deems appropriate. The Board also confirmed the awarding of hosting rights for the ICC World Test Championship Finals for the 2027, 2029, and 2031 editions to the England and Wales Cricket Board, following a successful track record in hosting recent finals. Additionally, Mr Gurumurthy Palani (France Cricket), Mr Anuraag Bhatnagar (Cricket Hong Kong, China), and Mr Gurdeep Klair (Cricket Canada) were elected to the ICC Chief Executives' Committee (CEC) as Associate Member representatives. Formal votes of thanks were recorded to outgoing ICC Chief Executive Mr Geoff Allardice, and to departing CEC members Mr Sumod Damodar (Botswana Cricket Association), Mr Rashpal Bajwa (Cricket Canada), and Mr Umair Butt (Cricket Denmark), for their service to the global game. Two new members joined the ICC family to take the total membership to 110 members with Timor-Leste Cricket Federation and Zambia Cricket Union formally becoming ICC Associate members. The ICC AGM also formally adopted the annual report and audited accounts of the ICC Group for the year 2024 together with the auditor's report.
