In birthday message, King reminds civil servants loyalty means trust and integrity — not blind worship
KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 — His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, today expressed his appreciation of the Madani Government and its civil servants, who have worked hard to manage the country's economy and development.
Sultan Ibrahim said the success of the recent Asean Summit was proof of the country's leadership's ability to strengthen regional and international cooperation.
'Although there are those who underestimate Malaysia's capabilities, with hard work and a spirit of cooperation, especially by civil servants, all challenges and obstacles have been successfully overcome,' said His Majesty.
Sultan Ibrahim was speaking during the Royal Address at the Investiture Ceremony for the year 2025 in conjunction with the King's official birthday celebration at Istana Negara.
Also present was Her Majesty, Raja Zarith Sofiah, the Queen of Malaysia.
Present at the ceremony were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and Cabinet Ministers.
Sultan Ibrahim also reminded civil servants to provide excellent service and practise the second principle of the Rukun Negara, which is 'Loyalty to the King and the Country'.
'Loyalty does not mean worship, but honesty and trust in carrying out the duties and responsibilities given, and not betraying the country and the people's trust,' said His Majesty.
The King stressed that civil servants must be free from the influence of political parties, be neutral and always prioritise the interests of the country and the people.
'Government officials must ensure that every decision made is in accordance with the conditions and regulations set, not according to the dictates of politicians.
'Every expenditure must also be closely controlled, and cannot be used as desired, by ministers or members of Parliament, to fish for votes, to the point of causing the government's debt to increase,' said the King.
Sultan Ibrahim also called on all enforcement agencies to carry out their duties with full integrity so that the people do not lose trust and continue to respect the uniform they wear. — Bernama

The 19th ranked Taiwanese twins had shocked the top seeds by taking the first game, before the Malaysians made a comeback to win 17-21, 21-17, 21-14 at the Istora Stadium in Jakarta tonight. Sze Fei-Izzuddin had to labour for an hour before they sealed the match and booked their berth in the last 16. The Malaysians have faced setback after setback this year, failing to get past the quarter-final stage in various tournaments, including two first-round exits. The duo won three World Tour titles in 2023 and another three in 2024, but have not won a single one this year. Today's tie was Sze Fei-Izzuddin's seventh time facing the Taiwanese pair, with the Malaysians winning six of the encounters. (Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : The government will be establishing a special task force to address financial irregularities, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced today. Anwar, who is also finance minister, said the decision to set up the task force was made during the special Cabinet committee on national governance meeting today. 'As part of efforts to strengthen the role of the national audit department through amendments to the Audit Act 1957, the meeting agreed to establish a task force to address serious irregularities,' he said in a Facebook post. During the meeting, he stressed the importance of addressing audit findings related to financial irregularities that could undermine the country's fiscal management. He said the new task force will ensure that follow-up actions are more holistic, targeted and have high impact, in keeping with the principles of accountability, transparency and integrity. Last month, Auditor-General Wan Suraya Wan Radzi said the amended Audit Act, which came into force last year, empowers the department to conduct audits on 1,856 GLCs. She was quoted as saying the amendment expands the department's scope, thereby strengthening the government's oversight of governance and financial management within GLCs. The changes include the expansion of the auditor-general's powers to include audits of entities receiving government financial guarantees, by introducing the 'follow the public money' audit approach. Wan Suraya said, moving forward, all GLCs would be held accountable for any irregularities identified in the auditor-general's report. She highlighted that the committee responsible for following up on actions taken based on the auditor-general's report had uncovered several instances of leakages in state and federal financial statements, which are now in the process of being recovered. She added that beyond the recovery of public funds, the audit process aims to determine whether serious irregularities, governance lapses or systemic failures have occurred.
