Stalin raking up delimitation issue to cover up his failures, says Union minister L Murugan
Coimbatore: Union minister of state L Murugan on Saturday said chief minister M K Stalin was raising the issue of delimitation of parliamentary constituencies to cover up the failures of his regime. He urged Stalin to focus on running the govt properly, instead of misleading the people. Addressing the media at the city airport, Murugan said the DMK govt had increased the electricity tariff and property tax and was involved in the Tasmac scam. "Is the chief minister running the govt or are his young brothers running the show? The CM has made it a habit to blame the Union govt to cover up his govt's failures. A caste-wise census has already been conducted in Bihar and Telangana. Stalin has no intention of conducting such a census in Tamil Nadu. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that a caste-wise census will be conducted across the country, and he is a true leader of social justice," Murugan said. He said the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies was never discussed in parliament. The Prime Minister clearly stated that the constituencies would be restructured without harming anyone or any state, he said.

Amit Shah To Visit Madurai On June 8, Chair Major BJP Tamil Nadu Meeting
Last Updated: Amit Shah will also offer prayers at the renowned Meenakshi Temple in Madurai before commencing his political engagements. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Madurai, Tamil Nadu, on June 8. During his visit, he will chair a meeting of the Tamil Nadu BJP's state core committee. He is also scheduled to interact with the party's state, district, and mandal-level office bearers in Madurai later that day. The Home Minister announced his visit on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, stating, 'Leaving for Tamil Nadu. Tomorrow, will chair a meeting of the state core committee of the Tamil Nadu BJP, in Madurai. In the evening, will interact with state, district, and mandal-level office bearers of the BJP in Madurai. Looking forward to attending the programmes." Shah's visit underscores the party's ongoing efforts to strengthen its organisational structure in Tamil Nadu. The meetings are expected to focus on evaluating the party's performance and developing strategies for upcoming electoral challenges in the state. According to party sources cited by PTI, Shah will also offer prayers at the renowned Meenakshi Temple in Madurai before commencing his political engagements. Leaving for Tamil Nadu. Tomorrow, will chair a meeting of the state core committee of the Tamil Nadu BJP, in Madurai. In the evening, will interact with state, district, and mandal-level office bearers of the BJP in forward to attending the programs.… — Amit Shah (@AmitShah) June 7, 2025 The BJP has allied with the principal opposition party, AIADMK, to challenge the ruling DMK-led alliance in the upcoming state elections, which are less than a year away. The AIADMK is poised to lead the alliance, which is expected to include several smaller parties. This comes as the DMK intensifies its campaign, portraying the BJP as a party acting against the state's interests, particularly accusing it of attempting to impose Hindi. The DMK has voiced concerns about the potential for southern states like Tamil Nadu to lose political influence due to a possible delimitation exercise. This exercise could adjust the number of parliamentary seats based on population. With southern states having successfully controlled population growth, there are fears this could result in fewer seats compared to northern states, where population growth has been more substantial. Meanwhile, the BJP has accused the DMK of raising these issues to deflect attention from what it alleges is widespread corruption and ineffective governance under Chief Minister MK Stalin. Shah has previously assured that the interests of southern states will be protected. First Published: June 07, 2025, 20:50 IST

We will learn without imposition: Kamal Haasan on three-language policy
The ruling DMK in his home state Tamil Nadu has long opposed the three-language policy introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP) Press Trust of India New Delhi Where does Kamal Haasan stand on the issue of imposition of Hindi in the south? I stand with Punjab. I stand with Karnataka. I stand with Andhra, is his quick reply. The pan-India superstar's latest film Thug Life, the 234th in a 65-year career, released in theatres this week amid controversy over his comment that Kannada was born out of Tamil. He refused to apologise and the film did not release in Karnataka. "I am the actor from 'Ek Duuje Ke Liye'..., Haasan told PTI during a recent visit to the news agency's headquarters, referring to his 1981 hit Hindi film about a Tamil boy and his romance with his Hindi speaking neighbour. Without imposition, we will learn. Don't impose, because this is ultimately education and we must take the shortest route to education and not put hurdles in its way," the actor said. The ruling DMK in his home state Tamil Nadu has long opposed the three-language policy introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP). The party has repeatedly accused the BJP-led NDA government of attempting to impose Hindi, a charge the Centre has denied. Stressing that the imposition of a particular language only hampers the learning process, the 70-year-old said, "I stand with Punjab. I stand with Karnataka. I stand with Andhra. This is not only place which is resenting imposition." The Indian cinema stalwart, hugely popular in the south as well as in the north with films such as Nayakan, Thevar Magan, "Sadma", "Saagar" and Chachi 420" that bridged language divides, said if you are truly looking at international breakthrough you must learn one language. And English seems to be fair enough. You can do Spanish also, or Chinese. But I think the most practical thing where the shortest route to that is that we have 350 years of English education, slowly but steadily. So when you suddenly replace it, it's all over again. You make unnecessarily many people illiterate, especially in Tamil Nadu. "You suddenly force all through Hindi and you tell them that you will not get your job beyond the Vindhyas, then you start wondering, what about the promises? What about my language? Am I not one of the 22 (official languages)? These are the questions that are coming." Tamil is one of the 22 official languages of the country, apart from Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Telugu, Urdu, Bodo, Santhali, Maithili and Dogri. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) had said it would not let Thug Life release unless Haasan apologised for his Kannada-Tamil comment at a promotional event in Chennai. His banner Raajkamal Films International filed a plea before the Karnataka High Court seeking protection for the release of the film, which sees him reuniting with Mani Ratnam after Nayakan in 1987. After a rap from the court over the remark, the producers said Thug Life will not be released in Karnataka.
