Teen killed in Dearborn Heights street racing crash, police urge parental caution
A Dearborn Heights teen is dead after a car crash during a street race.
Police say this is one of many of upticking car crashes in the area
Officials have tips for parents who have teen drivers that can keep them safe.
DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (FOX 2) - It was a horrific lesson for young drivers on Thursday when a 16-year-old boy lost his life in a high-speed car crash in Dearborn Heights.
What they're saying
FOX 2 was told he was street racing on Ford Road just east of Telegraph when he lost control of his car and crashed into a business. The driver, Ahmed Al-Badery, was killed.
Hussein Jaber, a friend of the victim, spoke to FOX 2 the day after the crash, still in shock.
"Took one of us to die for us to now understand that it can really end that fast," he said. "What do you get, a 10/20 second thrill? I mean, it's fun, you're speeding, but 2 seconds later he lost his life."

Meanwhile, police in Dearborn and Dearborn Heights have seen an uptick in dangerous driving, especially among younger drivers.
"It's just an unimaginable tragedy, and my heart goes out to that family. We had a young girl who was hit going to school several weeks ago. My heart continues to ache for that family," said Police Chief Issa Shahin.
He later said in December, another Dearborn teen, a 15-year-old Fordson student, was hit by a teen driver with heavy tints while walking to school.
Officials say she is still in critical condition.

The chief says it all starts at home in attempting to prevent more horrific crashes from happening.
"My 19-year-old son Yousef, there's nothing more that he would want than a Hemi or a fast-powered car, but I love Yousef enough that I'm not buying him that car, and parents need to do the same thing," he said. "Use technology to your advantage. I have Life 360 on all my kids' phones. I know how fast they're going. If they're going too fast, I get an alert, and I don't think that's too much."

Here's what police say happened the night of a 19-year-old's murder
Here's what San Angelo police say happened the night of the murder of 19-year-old Joe Angel Martinez III in San Angelo, according to allegations in a police complaint. Officers with the San Angelo Police Department arrested and charged Justin Ramirez, 17, Davon Lewis, 17, and a 16-year-old juvenile male in connection with the killing that happened July 23. Ramirez was being held Tuesday in the Tom Green County Jail on a $150,000 bond for a murder charge, online jail records show. Lewis was not in the custody of the local jail on Tuesday, according to the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office. Documents regarding the 16-year-old's arrest are not publicly available since he is a juvenile. Murder is a first degree felony punishable by five to 99 years or life in prison. Anyone accused of a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. According to a police complaint against Ramirez, San Angelo police Sgt. Keith Lane responded to Roosevelt Street and Rio Concho Drive to investigate a report of a gunshot victim in a vehicle that collided with a masonry mailbox July 23. The victim, Martinez, was transported to Shannon Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Lane spoke with the victim's dad and was able to track his location leading up to the incident using Life 360 software on the victim's phone. It showed that Martinez traveled to the River Pointe Apartments. An apartment staff member was able to retrieve video from the incident. Police reviewed the video and saw three people approach Martinez while he was sitting in his car, according to allegations in the complaint. In video footage, police watched one of the individuals point a gun at Martinez, who then he drove off in his car, according to allegations. Ramirez's mom told police he was with two boys when he left that night, and "when they returned their behavior was odd." She told police that she asked Ramirez about the large police presence at the apartment complex. She told police her son was involved in a shooting the evening before, according to allegations. Ramirez said the other two boys set up a drug deal, and the 16-year-old "shot the drug dealer during the transaction," according to allegations in the complaint. State investigation targets St. Louis County Executive's office
CLAYTON, Mo. – The Missouri State Highway Patrol showed up unannounced to the St. Louis County Executive's office on Monday to gather evidence as part of a state investigation. 'The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control is completing an investigation at the request of the Missouri Attorney General's Office,' Lt. Eric Brown, assistant director of the MSHP Public Information Division, said. But MSHP or the Attorney General's office did not say what they were investigating. St. Louis County Councilwoman Rita Heard Days says she is also in the dark. FOX 2 reported back in April that the county executive was billed about $5,000 to pay for Prop B postcards; the ballot measure that would give the county council the ability to remove department heads. FOX 2 News has obtained a letter from Councilwoman Shalonda Webb's office to Page demanding answers. The letter says that if Page does not provide the council a copy of a subpoena or warrant served at his office, then she will seek a vote of the council to issue a subpoena for the information. St. Louis County Executive Sam Page indicted on election offenses
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – St. Louis County Executive Sam Page was formally indicted by a grand jury Wednesday. Page was charged with two counts of committing class four election offenses, one count of stealing $25,000 or more, and one count of stealing $750 or more. In the report from the grand jury, the election-related charges stemmed from 'purposely expended public funds on a flyer to advocate the defeat, or oppose the passage, of a ballot measure on the April 8, 2025 ballot.' The other charges allege more than $25,750 of county funds were used 'with the purpose to deprive St. Louis County thereof by deceit…that such expenditure was authorized, which representation was false and known by (Page) to be false' throughout mid-March. The county executive has recently been under investigation after a complaint from a resident who believed a flyer mailed at the expense of taxpayers was designed to persuade voters against a proposition, known as Proposition B, that would have given council members authority to remove county department heads, according to prior FOX 2 reports. During a council meeting Tuesday, Page noted, 'I can't imagine that anyone has done anything wrong. I will cooperate fully with the investigation, and then I'll also be focused on the good work that we're doing for the county.' According to Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, following the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office citing a conflict of interest a judge appointed him as a special prosecutor. After that, the Attorney General's Office initiated a grand jury proceeding against Sam Page, resulting in the felony indictment. 'I conducted this investigation into Sam Page's alleged misuse of public funds because the people of St. Louis County deserve accountability, not corruption,' said Bailey via a news release Wednesday.
