Kota's prominence in educational and industrial sectors makes the Greenfield Airport a critical infrastructure project, aimed at addressing the anticipated traffic growth in the region.
The existing Kota Airport is under the ownership of Airports Authority of India (AAI). It comprises a runway (08/26) of dimensions 1220 m x 38 m, suitable for Code 'B' aircraft (such as DO-228), and an apron capable of accommodating two such aircraft.
The terminal building spans an area of 400 sqm and is capable of handling 50 passengers during peak hours. The existing airport cannot be developed for commercial operations due to inadequate land availability and urbanisation around the airport.

‘Always a delight to be among people in Kolkata': PM Modi's Bengal outreach before 2026 polls includes new metro lines, expressway
In a significant move aimed at bolstering infrastructure and signalling a strong developmental agenda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit West Bengal for the third time in recent months. While the inauguration of key metro railway projects in Kolkata is a major highlight, the visit is also pegged on a massive road development initiative—the foundation stone for the 7.2 km-long, six-lane elevated Kona Expressway, a project valued at over Rs 1,200 crore. This visit, the Prime Minister's second in the last two months, comes as West Bengal gears up for the 2026 Assembly elections. The repeated focus on infrastructure projects is being seen as a strategic effort by the BJP to showcase its commitment to the state's development, to counter the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). 'It is always a delight to be among the people of Kolkata, a city whose development we are greatly committed to. Tomorrow's programmes in the city are mainly focussed on connectivity. The metro services, which will be flagged off, include Noapara–Jai Hind Bimanbandar, Sealdah–Esplanade and Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay routes. Connectivity to and from the airport as well as the IT hub areas will be enhanced. I am eager to be among BJP Bengal Karyakartas at a rally in Kolkata. With each passing day, public anger against the TMC is increasing. West Bengal is eagerly looking towards the BJP with hope because of our development agenda,' PM Modi posted on X on Thursday. The centerpiece of the road development plan is the elevated Kona Expressway. This project, which will enhance connectivity between Howrah, its rural hinterland, and Kolkata, is expected to save commuters hours of travel time. It will cater to a long-standing issue of traffic congestion in the Howrah-Kolkata corridor. Beyond the road project, the Prime Minister will be inaugurating several new metro lines that are set to revolutionize urban transport in Kolkata. These include the Noapara-Jai Hind Biman Bandar metro service, which will provide crucial connectivity to the airport; the Sealdah-Esplanade metro, which will drastically cut down travel time between two of the city's busiest hubs; and the Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay section, a vital link to the city's burgeoning IT sector. The visit comes just weeks after the Prime Minister was in Bengal on July 18 — days before the TMC's annual 'Shahid Divas' mega-rally — and it also follows an earlier address in Alipurduar on May 29. 'As the BJP looks to consolidate its position ahead of the 2026 polls, its strategy appears to be a two-pronged approach, demonstrating the Central government's investment in the state's progress while simultaneously engaging with the local populace. This developmental push is intended to present a compelling alternative to the TMC government which has, over a period of time, highlighted how the Centre has deprived Bengal by not allocating funds for several welfare schemes. Moreover, the TMC is also fighting to overcome the instances in the last few years like the RG Kar rape and murder, the SSC scam, and others,' said a political analyst on condition of anonymity.

House panel to Modi govt—empower CBI to probe cybercrime cases without state's consent
The Standing Committee on Home Affairs based its recommendation on the submission that the need to obtain consent from the state before launching an investigation hinders the early detection of leads in cybercrime cases, and compromises the quality of the probe. New Delhi: A parliamentary panel has recommended amendments to The Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946, which would allow the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe cybercrime cases across the country without the need for general consent from state governments. The CBI was established by Parliament through the DSPE Act. Presenting its case before the panel, CBI said at least eight states have withdrawn general consent for probes in their jurisdictions—which is mandated under sections 5 and 6 of the DSPE Act. 'In terms of jurisdictional challenges, the CBI continues to encounter operational constraints owing to the requirement of State consent under Sections 5 and 6 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946 (DSPE Act). As per its submission to the committee, eight states have withdrawn general consent, hampering the quality of investigation and detrimental to timely and prompt investigation,' the committee noted in its report tabled in both Houses of Parliament Wednesday. 'This inhibits timely detection and is particularly problematic for coordinated national responses and digital offences with crossborder (sic) implications. The multiplicity of laws and the absence of harmonized procedures across states complicate access to search, seizure, and trial jurisdiction,' it observed. Considering these factors, as well as the complexity of cybercrime cases that warrant the agency's expertise, the committee recommended that the Narendra Modi-led central government amend the DPSE Act. Additionally, the committee advised the Ministry of Home Affairs to consult with states that have withdrawn their consent to resolve the issue. 'The committee in CBI's reply noted that certain States have withdrawn general consent required under the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946 (DSPE Act). It creates major hurdle in the seamless investigation and asking specific consent again on a case-to-case basis is time consuming, creates stress on resources and manpower, can hamper the quality of investigation and is detrimental to timely and prompt investigation,' the committee observed in its report titled 'Cyber Crime – Ramifications, Protection and Prevention'. 'The committee, therefore, recommends that the MHA must engage in active consultation with those state governments that have not given consent in order to resolve this issue. Further the committee is of the view that the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946 may be amended in order to empower the CBI to investigate the cybercrime cases in the country, without the consent of the state,' it said. However, the particular recommendation was met with stern criticism from Haris Beeran, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) Rajya Sabha MP from Kerala, who called these 'sweeping amendments' a violation of the spirit of cooperative federalism. 'This sentence may be deleted, as it may impinge upon cooperative federalism. During the hearing, it was informed to the committee that several states have not given their consent. Therefore, we may not be able to speculate on the reasons why the majority of states have not given consent, and it may not be appropriate to recommend such sweeping amendments under the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act,' Beeran recorded in his dissent note submitted to the committee's chairperson.
