Meanwhile, England Test captain Ben Stokes, who missed the fifth Test due to a shoulder Injury, said that finishing on the losing side at The Oval was bitterly disappointing after India snatched a nail-biting six-run win on the final day to level the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2.
England needed 35 runs with four wickets in hand to win the match and series on the final day of the encounter at The Oval. However, India's fightback on Monday was led by pacers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna. Siraj finished with a five-wicket haul while Krishna bagged four wickets to take the side over the line in an edge-of-the-seat thriller.
"It's obviously always difficult when you can't participate in the game. Another hard-fought game, down to Day 5, both teams have put in so much energy and effort into it. Bitterly disappointed we couldn't get over the line. But really proud of my team with everything they've put in," Stokes said in the post-match presentation.
Reflecting on Chris Woakes ' courageous decision to come out to bat with his left arm in a sling, the England captain said he is proud of his team for putting their bodies on the line.
"Disappointed we couldn't get the series win. When it got to the situation it did, there was no question in Woakesy's (Chris Woakes) mind (about batting). He spent yesterday thinking about which way around he was going to bat. We've got guys who've gone out there and played with broken fingers and broken feet. It shows how much it means to these players to play for their countries. I'm very proud of what the players have done and I'm sure Shubman is too," the all-rounder said.

It was Joe Root's wicket next, and then it was time for the next day," Shardul recalled. "The full team was on the same page that we are going to win this one. Our huddle was also plain and simple -- Gauti Bhai asked us to keep the belief that we can do it," he said. "(Mohammed) Siraj and Prasidh (Krishna) were in their spells, so it was also important for them to have a good start, which they did. Loads of credit go to Siraj and Prasidh for getting those important wickets and the way they pushed their bodies, especially Siraj after playing all five Tests. It was all about building the pressure, and one of the teams had to falter under that pressure. I feel India came out with flying colours," he added.

Jasprit Bumrah 'won't play too many Tests, but don't push him towards retirement': 'He's going to pick and choose'
Former India opening batter Aakash Chopra reckons Jasprit Bumrah won't play too many Tests going ahead. However, he also cautioned every stakeholder in Indian cricket against pushing Bumrah into early and premature retirement. Ever since the conclusion of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England, Bumrah has been facing flak for not playing all the Tests in the five-match series. Aakash Chopra reckons Jasprit Bumrah won't play too many Tests(Action Images via Reuters) Even before the series against England began, it was public knowledge that Bumrah would play just three Tests. The 31-year-old played the first, third, and fourth Tests. The pacer returned with 17 wickets; however, India won the two Tests in which Bumrah didn't feature in the playing XI. In the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England, Mohammed Siraj bowled close to 186 overs, picking up 23 wickets. The pacer kept charging in, and Siraj's workhorse-like ability has led to several former India players criticising Bumrah and asking the team management to look beyond him if he cannot play all the games. However, Chopra reckons Jasprit Bumrah is a pure diamond and hence he should get special treatment. He also said that the No.1-ranked Test bowler should be allowed the luxury of picking and choosing. 'Bowlers need to be rotated' Chopra feels it would have been a problem had Bumrah been a batter and there was no continuity in batting. However, considering Bumrah is a pacer, Chopra asked for a more flexible approach, asking the team management to opt to rotate the bowling attack. 'Jasprit Bumrah, as a bowler, you can adjust the bowling combination very easily. It doesn't make a difference. If Bumrah had been a batter, a No. 4 or an opener, and had said that he would play two matches and won't play after that, then it's a problem. Bowlers need to be rotated in any case in a series of three or four Tests,' said Chopra. According to a report in the Indian Express, Jasprit Bumrah has made himself available for the upcoming Asia Cup, which begins September 9. The selectors will pick the squad on Tuesday, August 19, in Mumbai.
