Cleveland Guardians place outfielder Lane Thomas on 10-day injured list
CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland outfielder Lane Thomas was placed on the 10-day injured list because of plantar fasciitis in his right foot Friday before the Guardians' game against the Los Angeles Angels.
The move is retroactive to Tuesday. The Guardians will fill the open roster spot before Saturday's game.
Thomas has played in only 17 games this season and is batting .119 (7 for 59). He missed five weeks due to a right wrist bone bruise after getting hit by a pitch during the April 8 home opener against the Chicago White Sox.
Cleveland acquired Thomas at the trade deadline last year. He had the go-ahead grand slam in the fifth and deciding game of the American League Division Series against Detroit.

PARIS (AP) — Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev were bugging out during their French Open quarterfinal Wednesday night, bothered by little flies that zoomed around Court Philippe-Chatrier as they competed. At one point, Zverev leaned over, put his hand on his knee and had a bit of a coughing fit, apparently after one of the bugs flew into his mouth. Both he and Djokovic occasionally would try to swat away the critters between points. The insects also flew around the stands in the 15,000-capacity main stadium, which had its lights on and the retractable roof open on a clear but chilly night, with the temperature around 60 degrees Fahrenheit (15 Celsius). Djokovic has won three of his 24 Grand Slam titles at Roland-Garros. Zverev was the runner-up at the clay-court Grand Slam tournament last year. Nations League semifinal between Germany and Portugal delayed because of hail shower
MUNICH (AP) — Stormy weather caused a 10-minute delay to the kickoff time for the Nations League semifinal between Germany and Portugal on Wednesday. Germany goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen and reserve keepers Oliver Baumann and Alexander Nübel had to run for cover from a heavy hail shower as they warmed up, and referee Slavko Vinčić checked the field afterward to make sure Wednesday's game could go ahead, albeit with the slight delay.

Create Account There was an uproar in last summer's Olympic Games when it was revealed that Khelif was competing as a woman, even though there were rumours that a 2023 medical report from the World Championships showed the boxer had male chromosomes. This week, that report was leaked and the rumours were confirmed. In the Olympic welterweight bout, Khelif took on Italian Angela Carini. The match lasted 46 seconds. Carini took two powerful blows to the head. One dislodged her chinstrap; the second smashed her face. She withdrew from the match, saying, 'this is unjust.' The International Olympic Committee dismissed claims it was unfair, pointing out Khelif identified as a woman on her passport. Those who suggested it's not just unfair but dangerous for a man to take on a woman in boxing, a sport in which physical power is a determining force, were ridiculed and labelled homophobic. Rowling and media personality Piers Morgan were subjected to a bitter campaign of cancel culture for stating the obvious: That men don't belong in women's sport. This week, Rowling took to X to acknowledge the leak of the 2023 medical report that confirmed what many had suspected. 'A win for women because they won't be battered to death in the ring by men,' Rowling said. This is not about transgenderism. Everyone has the right to live their life in the manner in which they see fit, in whatever gender they choose. The problem arises when the increasing number of trans women, many of whom have intact male genitalia, show up in elite sports to compete against biological women. World Aquatics, the body that governs swimming, has developed a sensible solution. Trans women who went through puberty as a male cannot compete with biological women but can take part in an 'open' category for people of all genders. With the Olympics on the horizon in 2028, bodies governing elite sports must establish fair and firm rules. If they fail to do so, they will destroy competitive sports for biological women and turn it into a farce. And Khelif should return the gold medal.
