LSU baseball coach addresses rumors of assistant leaving for ACC head coaching job
Before LSU baseball's win over Arkansas to open the 2025 College World Series, head coach Jay Johnson addressed rumors about one of his assistants taking another job.
Josh Jordan, the Tigers' third base coach and recruiting coordinator, is reportedly being considered for Duke's head coaching vacancy. Johnson spoke highly of Jordan's work under him since they both arrived in Baton Rouge in 2022.
"He's one of the best, if not the best assistant coach I've ever had," Johnson said. "He's certainly capable of being a head coach and running his own program."
Prior to joining Johnson's staff, Jordan served as an assistant at Duke since 2012. He climbed the ranks, starting as the recruiting coordinator then earning the title of associate head coach in 2015. The strong ties make him a prime candidate for the Blue Devils' leader.
"Obviously, I want to keep him because he's really good at what he does," Johnson said. "He makes me a better head coach because how quality he does his work."
Losing assistants isn't new for Johnson as pitching coach Wes Johnson accepted the Georgia head coaching role during LSU's 2023 national championship run. Johnson trusts his staff to stay focused on the goal while having those conversations.
"I have no questions about our staff and their ability to prepare with other things going on," Johnson said. "I expect them to be able to execute what they need to do in that space and have our team ready to play."

Lane Johnson feels he's "getting close" to his peak as a player
The offensive line has been a big part of the Eagles' success in recent years and they have four starters back from last season as they try to defend their Super Bowl title. Right tackle Lane Johnson is the most experienced member of that group and he's set to be the oldest starting tackle in the league at 35. Some players are slowing down at that age, but Johnson feels like he's moving in the other direction. Advertisement Johnson dealt with ankle injuries for several years and said last week that he feels better now than he did when he was 29 or 30. That's left him feeling like he still has new heights to reach as a player. "I feel like I'm getting close to maybe my peak," Johnson said, via Reuben Frank of "As weird as it is to say, but that's truly how I feel. Maybe they need to do a Combine for guys 10 years [in the league], see how we do compared to 10 years ago.' The Eagles would gladly sign up for more of the same from Johnson in 2025. If they get an even better player, the offense is going to be a difficult one to stop come the start of the regular season.

2026 5-star DL has canceled his LSU OV after visiting Texas A&M
2026 5-star DL has canceled his LSU OV after visiting Texas A&M One of Texas A&M's priority prospects in the 2026 recruiting class took an official visit to College Station this weekend, as five-star defensive lineman Lamar Brown, who was a frequent visitor during the spring period, is inching closer to his commitment date on Thursday, July 10. After was had been deemed as a highly successful visit this weekend, Brown took to social media to deliver a revealing message that could be good news for the Aggies. "Think this one close the book...." While coach Mike Elko and his staff have a ways to go to land the highly coveted lineman, things got even more interesting on Sunday night after Brown reportedly canceled his upcoming official visit to LSU on June 20, as the Louisiana native is now likely considering Texas A&M and, possibly Miami or Texas going forward, with the Aggies in the lead. Again, nothing is set in stone, but knowing that Brown does not have an official visit set up before his July 10 commitment looks like great news for Elko and his staff, would win one of the most significant recruiting battles during my time covering the program. Regarding the future of Texas A&M's defensive line, which includes 2025 signee Marco Jones, Landon Rink, DJ Sanders, and Chace Sims, adding another elite prospect with NFL potential as soon as he steps on campus is certainly a sign that the Aggies' will dominate in the trenches for the next three seasons.
