Memphis football's 2025 schedule includes possible Thanksgiving game vs. Navy: See full dates
The Tigers will host Navy during the final week of the 2025 regular season. That matchup — a rematch of a game the Midshipmen won in Annapolis in 2024 — will take place either on Thanksgiving Day or Black Friday.
The AAC released its full conference schedule on Friday afternoon, and it could include a second consecutive Thanksgiving date for the Tigers. The conference will decide by Oct. 13 if the Memphis-Navy game will be on Nov. 27 (Thanksgiving) or Nov. 28 (Black Friday). Memphis beat Tulane in New Orleans to close last year's regular season on Thanksgiving Day.
The Tigers already knew their opponents, but Friday's announcement crystalized their full 2025 schedule.
The Tigers will host the Green Wave on Nov. 7. That'll be the second straight Friday game for Memphis, which will travel to Rice on Oct. 31.
Memphis will kick off conference play when it travels to Boca Raton, Florida, to face Florida Atlantic on Sept. 27. That'll be the first-ever conference game between the two teams. The Tigers will head to UAB for the "Battle for the Bones" on Oct. 18.
Memphis went 11-2 in 2024, but the Tigers will look considerably different in 2025. There will be very few returning starters on either side of the ball, and Memphis will have a quarterback competition for the first time since 2021.
Those two losses in 2024 came on the road to Navy and UTSA, but the Tigers won't face the Roadrunners in 2025. Navy went 10-3 in 2024 and returns star quarterback Blake Horvath, so the game could have major title implications.
Memphis' quarterback competition likely will dominate preseason storylines, even as Memphis gears up for another run at the AAC title. The Tigers were picked to win the conference before last season but finished fourth behind Army, Tulane and Navy.
The College Football Playoff won't be out of the question, either. Though the Group of Five landscape is constantly shifting, the Tigers will have every opportunity to grab a playoff spot if they work their way into AAC title contention.

Kerry Carpenter homers and drives in 3 to lead Tigers over Angels 9-5
DETROIT -- Kerry Carpenter homered and drove in three runs to help the Detroit Tigers beat the Los Angeles Angels 9-5 on Sunday. Carpenter doubled and scored in the first, hit a sacrifice fly in the second and added a three-run homer in the fourth. Casey Mize (11-4) got the win, allowing two runs on three hits in five innings. He walked two and struck out five. Jack Kochanowicz (3-10) took the loss. He gave up seven runs on 10 hits in three-plus innings. The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the first, stringing together four straight two-out hits that included RBI singles by Riley Greene and Zach McKinstry. Carpenter's sacrifice fly made it 3-0 in the second, and the Tigers added four more in the fourth. Javier Baez reached on an error, took third on a base hit by Cole Keith and scored on Gleyber Torres' single. Carpenter followed with his 21st homer, giving Detroit a 7-0 lead. Nolan Schanuel hit a two-run homer in the fifth, and Logan O'Hoppe made it 7-3 with an RBI single in the sixth. Greene hit a two-run homer in the sixth while Luis Rengifo hit a two-run shot in the eighth. Angels CF Bryce Teodosio, who missed Saturday's game after hitting his head on the fence on Friday, ran into LF Taylor Ward and RF Jo Adell on eighth-inning fly balls. Luckily, no one was injured on either play. Carpenter has a .600 slugging percentage against right-handed pitchers since the start of 2024, the third highest in the majors. Shohei Ohtani (.688) and Aaron Judge (.682) are the leaders among players with at least 500 plate appearances against righties. The Angels return for a three-game series with their crosstown rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers. RHP Jose Soriano is scheduled to start Monday's opener. Detroit travels to Chicago for three games against the White Sox. RHP Chris Paddack (4-10, 4.91) will pitch on Monday evening. After playing 13 of their last 16 games at home, the Tigers play 13 of the next 19 on the road.
