Memphis vs Colorado State prediction, picks for 2025 men's NCAA Tournament

The 2025 NCAA Tournament is here, folks. First-round action continues on Friday with a matchup between Memphis and Colorado State in the West Region. The Memphis Tigers finished the 2024-25 season with a 29-5 record, good for first in the American Athletic Conference. That earned them a 5 seed in the 2025 March Madness bracket. Their opponent, the Colorado State Rams, finished second in the Mountain West with a 25-9 record and a conference tournament win earned them a No. 12 seed in the Big Dance. Memphis ranks as the 51st-best team in the KenPom rankings, sporting the 72nd-best offense and 40th-best defense. Meanwhile, Colorado State ranks 42nd overall, possessing the 43rd-ranked offense and 49th-ranked defense. Here's how our experts see Friday's Round of 64 clash playing out. Memphis football's 2025 schedule includes possible Thanksgiving game vs. Navy: See full dates

Memphis football will have to wait a while for some revenge. The Tigers will host Navy during the final week of the 2025 regular season. That matchup — a rematch of a game the Midshipmen won in Annapolis in 2024 — will take place either on Thanksgiving Day or Black Friday. The AAC released its full conference schedule on Friday afternoon, and it could include a second consecutive Thanksgiving date for the Tigers. The conference will decide by Oct. 13 if the Memphis-Navy game will be on Nov. 27 (Thanksgiving) or Nov. 28 (Black Friday). Memphis beat Tulane in New Orleans to close last year's regular season on Thanksgiving Day. The Tigers already knew their opponents, but Friday's announcement crystalized their full 2025 schedule. The Tigers will host the Green Wave on Nov. 7. That'll be the second straight Friday game for Memphis, which will travel to Rice on Oct. 31. Memphis will kick off conference play when it travels to Boca Raton, Florida, to face Florida Atlantic on Sept. 27. That'll be the first-ever conference game between the two teams. The Tigers will head to UAB for the "Battle for the Bones" on Oct. 18. Memphis went 11-2 in 2024, but the Tigers will look considerably different in 2025. There will be very few returning starters on either side of the ball, and Memphis will have a quarterback competition for the first time since 2021. Those two losses in 2024 came on the road to Navy and UTSA, but the Tigers won't face the Roadrunners in 2025. Navy went 10-3 in 2024 and returns star quarterback Blake Horvath, so the game could have major title implications. Memphis' quarterback competition likely will dominate preseason storylines, even as Memphis gears up for another run at the AAC title. The Tigers were picked to win the conference before last season but finished fourth behind Army, Tulane and Navy. The College Football Playoff won't be out of the question, either. Though the Group of Five landscape is constantly shifting, the Tigers will have every opportunity to grab a playoff spot if they work their way into AAC title contention.
