Mr. Gogoi said he went to Pakistan in 2013 to meet his British wife, Elizabeth Colburn, who worked on an international project on climate change in the neighbouring country. Her work was not related to espionage or intelligence gathering, he insisted.
'They (Bharatiya Janata Party) are making an issue out of it, which is like a script of a C-grade Bollywood movie,' he said, adding that the Assam Chief Minister 'has this old habit of deceiving people'.
Asserting the citizenship of his wife and children are 'personal matters', Mr. Gogoi took a jibe at Mr. Sarma by referring to his claim that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi used a body double for his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in 2024. 'I believe he thinks I have a body double, too,' he said.
Hitting back, Mr. Sarma said the Congress MP representing eastern Assam's Jorhat constituency 'has finally admitted' that he visited Pakistan.

'But let us be very clear; this is just the beginning, not the end. What lies ahead is far more serious. There exists every reasonable ground, supported by credible inputs and documented information, to suggest that Shri Gogoi has maintained proximity with the Pakistani establishment,' he posted on X.
He later told journalists that Mr. Gogoi and his wife were 'deeply involved in anti-India activities' and what the Congress MP has revealed 'is only 10%' of what is known and would be disclosed after the Special Investigation Team completes its inquiry by September.
'We will release every document, every proof we have. The people of Assam and India deserve to know the truth,' the Chief Minister said.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and former State party president, Ripun Bora, said he received a notice from the Crime Investigation Department for 'countering the false allegations of the Chief Minister' about Mr. Gogoi's Pakistan links.
'This is an attempt to harass me, intimidate me, and suppress my voice. But as a law-abiding citizen, I have decided to appear before CM's Vigilance. If they send me to jail, I am ready to go to jail,' he said.

"Rahul Gandhi is useless, insults the army": Union Minister Giriraj Singh
Begusarai, (Bihar) [India], June 6 (ANI): Union Minister Giriraj Singh launched a scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi on Friday, calling him 'useless' and accusing him of insulting the army. Singh made these remarks while commenting on Rahul Gandhi's visit to Bihar, saying that Rahul Gandhi's words resemble those of Pakistan and that he doesn't respect the nation. While speaking to reporters, Giriraj Singh said, 'Rahul Gandhi opposed India's valour, questioned its Army's bravery, and tarnished the army's reputation worldwide. The Bihar public will oppose him, why would they vote for someone who doesn't respect the army or the nation? Rahul Gandhi's tongue is like Pakistan, and he does not respect the nation.' Singh also stated, 'PM Modi isn't being insulted. Did the army win in 1971, or did Indira ji win? It's the army that won. Atal ji was in the opposition, and he said there's no party now, only Bharat. And this useless person (Rahul Gandhi) is mocking and making fun of the nation's bravery and the army. Such a person should be boycotted.' The leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, arrived at Gaya Airport in Bihar on Friday. According to the official Congress account on X, he is scheduled to address the 'Constitution Conference' and participate in multiple programs. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi visited Darbhanga, interacted with students, and discussed issues such as caste census and reservation. The LoP reached Ambedkar Hostel in Darbhanga in May to deliver an address despite being denied permission by Bihar Police, which also led to a case against him by the district administration. He emphasised the importance of social justice and criticised the government's policies, highlighting the need for a caste census, stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was forced to announce it due to public pressure. The Bihar Assembly elections are expected to be a multi-cornered contest with the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) and the BJP, facing off against the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) comprising the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the INC, and other parties. The last assembly elections were held in October-November 2020. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has won a simple majority in Bihar, winning 125 seats in a closely contested election. The BJP won 74 seats while the JD(U) secured 43 seats. The Mahagathbandhan, including Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and Left parties, managed to secure 110 seats in the state's 243-seat legislative assembly. The Bihar Legislative Assembly election for all 243 constituencies is scheduled to be held in October or November this year. (ANI)

PM Modi wants to claim credit: Congress on Chenab rail bridge inauguration
The Congress on Friday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of taking undue credit for the Chenab railway bridge, shortly after the latter inaugurated the world's tallest rail arch in Jammu and Kashmir."This railway project was sanctioned in 1995 when Narasimha Rao was the Prime Minister. In 2002, Atal Bihari Vajpayee declared it a national project. Of the 272-kilometre stretch between Udhampur, Srinagar and Baramulla, 160 km was already inaugurated before 2014. It's not like Modi came, gave the contract, and the work started," Congress general secretary, Jairam Ramesh, for recognition of the contributions made by successive governments, Ramesh said, "We congratulate the project, but the Prime Minister must not forget the importance of continuity in governance, something a self-absorbed PM cannot understand. Modi only wants to claim credit for the work done before him". Tracing the timeline of the project, Ramesh said, "on April 13, 2005, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated the 53 km rail link between Jammu and Udhampur. On October 11, 2008, PM Singh inaugurated the 66 km rail link between Anantnag and Mazhom outside Srinagar. On February 14, 2009, PM Singh inaugurated the 31 km rail link between Mazhom outside Srinagar and Baramulla. On October 29, 2009, Prime Minister PM Singh inaugurated the 18 km rail link between Anantnag and Qazigund. On June 26, 2013, PM Singh inaugurated the 11 km Qazigund to Banihal rail link".advertisementPM Modi arrived at the Air Force station in Udhampur and flew by helicopter to the Chenab bridge site to formally inaugurate the engineering marvel, which now links the Kashmir Valley to the rest of India via rail.
