Hamas denounces Israel's aid airdrops and corridors as ‘deceptive starvation tactics'

Saudi Gazette27-07-2025
GAZA CITY — Hamas on Sunday condemned Israel's ongoing humanitarian aid airdrops and limited corridor operations in the Gaza Strip, calling them 'deceptive tactics' designed to deflect growing international demands to end the siege and famine imposed on Palestinians.
In a strongly worded statement, the Palestinian group said Israel's airdrop strategy and so-called safe corridors are part of 'a calculated policy to manage famine, impose coercive realities, and subject civilians to danger and humiliation.'
'The arrival of food and medicine to Gaza is not a favor, it is a natural right and an urgent necessity to stop the catastrophe imposed by the Nazi-like occupation,' the statement read.
Hamas emphasized that the only path to ending the humanitarian disaster is 'stopping the aggression, breaking the blockade, and opening all border crossings.'
The group accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of directly orchestrating policies that have resulted in widespread civilian deaths and suffering, labeling the aid maneuvers and starvation conditions as 'clear-cut war crimes.'
Hamas also called on the international community to increase pressure—both official and grassroots—to break the blockade and stop what it described as a 'deliberate campaign of starvation and genocide.'
The warning comes as Israel carried out another aid airdrop over Gaza on Sunday and announced plans for temporary pauses in fighting to allow limited aid access via designated corridors.
Since May 27, Israel has also launched an alternative distribution initiative through the U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), bypassing the United Nations and international humanitarian agencies—a move that has drawn criticism and rejection from global aid organizations.
Despite these efforts, Israeli forces have continued to open fire on Palestinians gathering near distribution centers, resulting in hundreds of casualties.
The Israeli military campaign, which began on Oct. 7, 2023, has killed over 59,700 Palestinians, according to local health authorities, the majority of them women and children. The relentless bombardment has devastated Gaza and triggered catastrophic food shortages.
In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Israel also faces a separate genocide case at the International Court of Justice. — Agencies

Norway's Wealth Fund to Announce Israeli Investment Measures, Rules Out Full Divestment

Norway's Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg announced on Friday that the country's Sovereign Wealth Fund will unveil next week adjustments to how it manages its Israeli investments, according to Reuters. On Tuesday, the government revealed an urgent review of the fund's investments over ethical concerns related to the ongoing war in Gaza and Israel's military rule in the West Bank. 'I see several measures over time, but what can be addressed quickly, must be done quickly,' Stoltenberg told a press conference. Crucially, Stoltenberg did not specify what the measures might entail but emphasized that there would be no blanket divestment from all Israeli companies. 'If we did that, it would mean we are divesting from them because they are Israeli,' he added. The review came after local media reports that noted the fund had acquired a stake in Israeli jet engine manufacturer Bet Shemesh Engines Ltd, which provides services to Israel's armed forces, including the maintenance of fighter jets. As a result, the reports sparked political debate in Norway ahead of the September 8 elections. Stoltenberg stated that discussions between the Finance Ministry and the fund involved the use of external portfolio managers for certain holdings. Moreover, he noted that the Bet Shemesh investment was managed by an external manager, which he did not name. The fund also revealed that it uses three Israeli external fund managers for some of its holdings in the country. At the end of 2024, the fund held shares in 65 Israeli companies, valued at $1.95 billion, its records show. Meanwhile, the fund sold its stakes in an Israeli energy company and a telecoms group in 2024. At the same time, its ethics watchdog is also assessing whether to divest from five banks. US Backs Israel's Gaza Offensive Amidst Global Concern

US President Donald Trump has placed the responsibility for Gaza's future squarely on Israel's shoulders, indicating that Washington is providing tacit support for Israel's plans to intensify its military offensive in the war-torn Palestinian territory. While many European and Arab leaders urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reconsider his approach, Trump has effectively granted him the freedom to act, regardless of potential backlash from the international community. Israel's Military Strategy Against Hamas After nearly two years of devastating conflict, Israel's security cabinet approved Netanyahu's strategy to 'defeat' Hamas following the attack on southern Israel on 7 October, 2023, which triggered the current war. When asked about supporting such a plan, Trump emphasized his focus on increasing humanitarian aid to Gaza, stating, 'As far as the rest of it, I really can't say — that's going to be pretty much up to Israel.' Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday echoed Trump's sentiments, asserting, 'Ultimately, what Israel needs to do for Israel's security will be determined by Israel.' These comments reflect a clear US strategy: since ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas collapsed, Washington has aligned closely with Israel's perspective. This shift followed US envoy Steve Witkoff's visit to Israel last week. While the US has increased pressure on Israel to allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza, it has also insisted on the release of all Israeli hostages held by Hamas. US Vice President JD Vance articulated these goals during discussions with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, stating, 'We want to make it so that Hamas cannot attack innocent Israeli civilians ever again, and we think that has to come through the eradication of Hamas.' Challenges in Securing a Ceasefire Since returning to the White House in January, Trump has consistently supported Israel, even while advocating for improved humanitarian assistance. However, he appears to have abandoned efforts to secure a ceasefire after repeated mediation failures. Talks in Doha collapsed last month when Hamas refused to agree to a deal for releasing hostages. Currently, Hamas holds 49 Israeli hostages, with 27 presumed dead. US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, known for his provocative remarks, criticized those who oppose Israel's Gaza strategy. He questioned whether Israel should 'surrender to Hamas' while its hostages suffer. Huckabee's comments came in response to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who labeled Netanyahu's approach as 'wrong.' In his EWTN interview, Rubio acknowledged the media's focus on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He expressed concern over the lack of attention given to the plight of the remaining Israeli hostages. As the situation evolves, Washington has sharply criticized international efforts to formally recognize a Palestinian state, particularly those led by French President Emmanuel Macron. US officials argue that such recognition could embolden Hamas and hinder peace efforts. Short link : Post Views: 23

Arab Ministers Hold Israel Fully Accountable for Gaza Genocide

The Arab Ministerial Committee on Gaza declared on Saturday that it holds Israel fully accountable for the genocidal crimes against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, according to Arab News. During the Joint Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit on developments in Gaza, the ministers accused Israel of causing unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe through its ongoing war in the Palestinian enclave. 'We hold the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the ongoing genocide and the unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe taking place in the Gaza Strip,' read the statement. The committee urged the international community — specifically the permanent members of the Security Council — to act urgently and put an end to Israel's illegal aggressive policies. Moreover, it called for the 'immediate and comprehensive cessation of the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, and an end to the ongoing violations committed by the occupying forces against civilians and civilian infrastructure in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.' As for the delivery of humanitarian aids, the committee also demanded unconditional access to Gaza. 'The demand that Israel, as the occupying power, immediately and unconditionally allow the entry of humanitarian assistance at scale into the Gaza Strip — including food, medicine, and fuel — and ensure the freedom of operation of relief agencies and international humanitarian organizations, in accordance with international humanitarian law and its applicable principles.' the statement read. Crucially, the summit underscored the urgent need to start implementing the Arab-Islamic plan for reconstructing the Gaza Strip. Similarly, it urged active participation in the upcoming Gaza Reconstruction Conference in Cairo.
