Devon Conway out of New Zealand squad for T20 tri-series vs. Zimbabwe and South Africa
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Devon Conway has been omitted from new Black Caps head coach Rob Walter's first squad, which will play a Twenty20 tri-series against host Zimbabwe and South Africa next month.
The veteran batsman is one of several leading players who have turned down central contacts with New Zealand Cricket to play in professional T20 leagues overseas. Conway last played for New Zealand in June last year, in its last group match at the T20 World Cup.
Former captain Kane Williamson made himself unavailable while playing for Middlesex in England's county championship.
Auckland batter Bevon Jacobs is the only uncapped player in the 15-man squad named by Walter on Friday. The 23-year-old Jacobs was a member of the New Zealand squad that played Sri Lanka in December but did not play a game.
Fast bowler Adam Milne has been recalled for the first time since November after performing well in Major League Cricket in the United States.
Batters Finn Allen and Tim Seifert also return to the squad which will be captained by Mitchell Santner. Allen recently hit a world-record 19 sixes in an innings of 151 for the San Francisco Unicorns in Major League Cricket.
'We've got a really strong squad for this tour and I'm looking forward to getting the team together and getting into the work,' Walter said. 'We've got some good experience in the side and it's nice to be able to welcome back a few of the players who missed the March series against Pakistan because of the Indian Premier League.

PARIS (AP) — Tadej Pogačar will be supported by an impressive squad in his quest for a fourth Tour de France title. The UAE Team Emirates leader will be surrounded by excellent all-rounders and climbers with the experience required to answer the demands of the most grueling of three-week races. The 26-year-old Pogačar is once again the main favorite after yet another dominant season that recently saw him win the Critérium du Dauphiné, the traditional curtain riser before the Tour that generally indicates the form of the moment. The Tour de France starts on July 5 from the northern city of Lille. Pogačar's team said on Friday that he will be supported by five teammates from the Critérium du Dauphiné — Jhonatan Narváez, Nils Politt, Pavel Sivakov, Marc Soler and Tim Wellens — with João Almeida and Adam Yates rounding out the squad. Pogačar is an extremely versatile rider capable of winning on all terrains. This year, the reigning world champion from Slovenia also won the Tour of Flanders, Strade Bianche, Liège–Bastogne–Liège and the Flèche Wallonne. His appetite for victory has drawn comparisons with the greatest cyclist of all time, Eddy Merckx. 'I'm excited for the Tour to start. I'm lucky to have had close to the perfect preparation this year — everything has gone really smoothly, especially coming off a great altitude camp with my teammates,' Pogačar said. 'The vibes in the team are amazing right now, and that gives me a lot of confidence.' If Pogačar wins the Tour, he will draw level with Chris Froome for the fifth most Tour wins of all time. Four riders — Jacques Anquetil, Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain — have won cycling's biggest race five times. Pogačar's main rival through July is expected to be Jonas Vingegaard, a two-time Tour champion who will lead the Visma-Lease a Bike team. 'Of course, you can never be fully prepared for something like the Tour de France — it's unpredictable, and that's part of what makes it so special,' Pogačar said. 'I'm expecting a very high level from all the other top riders.' The race features six mountain stages with five mountain finishes, and two time trials. 'The first few days should be really exciting for the fans with some open, aggressive stages, and the last week is very climbing-heavy with some iconic stages,' Pogačar said. Van Nistelrooy out as coach of relegated Leicester
LONDON (AP) — Ruud van Nistelrooy has agreed to terminate his contract as coach of Leicester, the English club said Friday. The former Netherlands striker took over Leicester in November last year on a contract through June 2027, but he couldn't prevent relegation as the team finished the Premier League in 18th place. The club said it is looking for his replacement. It thanked Van Nistelrooy for his 'dedication and hard work,' while the former Manchester United star wished the team well for the future. The 48-year-old Van Nistelrooy previously coached Dutch side PSV Eindhoven and acted as an interim coach for United. Leicester faces the possibility of a points reduction in the Championship next season for a possible breach of financial rules. Nissanka leads with 158 as Sri Lanka reaches 401-6 at lunch on Day 3 of 2nd test vs Bangladesh
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — Opening batter Pathum Nissanka scored more than 150 runs in consecutive test matches as Sri Lanka strengthened its hold on the second cricket test, taking a 151-run first-innings lead at lunch on the third day. Bangladesh bowlers took four wickets in the first session to regain some control. Replying to Bangladesh's first-innings score of 247 all out, Sri Lanka reached 401 for six at the lunch break. Sri Lanka resumed on the third day at 290 for two with Nissanka unbeaten on 146 batting with night watchman Prabath Jayasuriya. Nissanka followed his 187 in the first test in Galle with a brilliant 158 which included 19 boundaries off 254 deliveries in an innings lasting more than six hours. A second new ball taken by Bangladesh after 80 overs on Friday produced quick results when Nissanka stepped out and played a defensive shot against left-arm spinner Taijul Islam which resulted in a straight-forward catch to Anamul Haque at short cover. Taijul returned to dismiss Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva (7) cheaply. His sliding delivery went straight and trapped de Silva lbw.
