Twelve people are arrested after 145 people report being pricked by SYRINGES across international music festival
French police opened an investigation following reports the Fete de la Musique was infiltrated by attackers yesterday evening.
Before the party in Paris, which authorities reported as having 'unprecedented crowds' posts had social media had called for women to be targeted.
The interior ministry confirmed today 145 people had reported being stabbed with needles after millions had taken to the streets to celebrate.
Paris police reported 13 cases in the capital.
Officials did not say whether these were cases of so-called needle spiking with date-rape drugs such as Rohypnol or GHB, used by attackers to render victims confused or unconscious and vulnerable to sexual assault.
'Some victims were taken to hospital for toxicological tests,' the ministry said.
In Paris, investigations were opened after three people including a 15-year-old girl and an 18-year-old male, reported being stabbed in separate incidents across Paris, prosecutors said.
All three reported feeling unwell.
Across France, 12 suspects have been arrested. Among them were four people in the southwestern city of Angouleme suspected of having targeted around 50 victims, a police source said.
Apart from those suspects, more than 370 people were detained during the festival on various charges, including nearly 90 people in Paris.
Fourteen participants in the festivities were seriously injured, including a 17-year-old hospitalised after being found sitting on the street with stab wounds to the lower abdomen.
Thirteen members of law enforcement were also injured.
The prefect of the Paris police, Laurent Nunez, said that 'no major incident has been reported'.
Organisers at the Fete de la Musique have been contacted for comment.
Footage circulating on social media also shows attendees in Paris partaking in aggressive behaviour on the streets amid the festivities.

In one particularly shocking video, a man dressed in a blue T-shirt strikes a kick at a woman's head before pulling another male to the ground.
The festival is an annual music celebration that takes place on June 21.
On Music Day - as it is known in English - citizens and residents are urged to play music outside in their neighborhoods or in public spaces and parks.
The occasion is now celebrated in 120 countries around the world.
Organiser Emmanuel Sémo said: 'Over the past three years, this type of incident has unfortunately been on the rise in major cities, particularly in Paris, often amplified by viral TikTok challenges.
'However, at our event, we take these risks very seriously and have implemented heightened vigilance measures to ensure everyone's safety.
'Ahead of the EF FESTIVAL or VERSO FESTIVAL, we issued preventive messages across our social media channels, sent information by email to attendees, and displayed dedicated signage on site.
'Security checks were reinforced at the entrances, and patrols were increased throughout the venue to detect and prevent any suspicious behaviour.
'This year, we had two suspected cases out of over 17,000 attendees. After investigation by emergency services, both were proven to be false alarms. While this represents an extremely low incident rate, safety remains an absolute priority for us. We also note that no intervention from law enforcement was required during the event.
'The atmosphere remained positive, the audience was respectful and well-filtered at entry points; We're proud of the secure and welcoming environment we created.'

More than 100 migrants in one vessel thought to have bumped crossings to 27,799
A vessel carrying more than 100 migrants is thought to have helped bring the number of small boat arrivals to 27,799 this year. Home Office figures show 325 migrants crossed the English Channel by small boat on Wednesday, in the same week that the number of arrivals since Labour won the election hit 50,000. The PA news agency understands that 106 people attempted the crossing between France and the Kent coast on a single boat. A total of 51,041 migrants have been detected crossing the Channel since Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer entered No 10 on July 5 last year. A former home secretary has said that the figure 'demonstrates the way over the last six or seven years that the criminal gangs have got an absolute foothold in the tragic trafficking of people across the Channel'. Baroness Jacqui Smith of Malvern, who is now an education and women and equalities minister, told BBC Breakfast on Monday: 'It is an unacceptable number of people.' Speaking on the Isle of Wight this week, Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch said: 'My team are now looking at what we can do in terms of detention centres, but stopping people from coming here in the first place – if they think they're going to be sent to Rwanda and not get here, get a free hotel, get benefits, then they won't come here.' Asked if her party could reduce the five-figure numbers to zero if it was in power, Mrs Badenoch said she thought 'it wouldn't happen straight away, but it would happen quickly'.

Militant attacks on Pakistani police kill 5 as government hunt for insurgents displaces thousands
A series of attacks against Pakistani police by militants left five officers dead and eight wounded in a region where a government operation against insurgents has displaced 100,000 people, officials said. There were four attacks with three resulting in officer casualties Thursday, police said. Most died or were injured in a single attack in the Upper Dir district when armed men ambushed a police van early Thursday. Three officers died and seven were injured during the routine patrol, police official Ismail Khan said. In the Peshawar suburb of Hassan Khel, armed men opened fire on a police station with automatic weapons. One officer died and another was wounded in an exchange of fire, Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Qasim Ali Khan said. Two other overnight attacks came at police checkpoints in the Lajbok area of the Lower Dir district, where a police constable was killed, and in the Bannu district, where there were no casualties reported. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the assaults and it was not immediately known if they were connected. Authorities have stepped up security across the country on the country's Independence Day, which was celebrated Thursday. The attacks on police coincided with a security operation to fight militants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province's Bajaur district. There was no formal announcement of the offensive's launch in Bajaur, a former stronghold of the Pakistani Taliban. Local government administrator Saeed Ullah said it was not a large-scale operation and only insurgent hideouts were targeted to avoid hurting or killing civilians, but the operation has displaced at least 100,000 people and there have been civilian casualties, including deaths. On Thursday, hundreds of people carried black flags and staged a sit-in to protest the killing of a mother and her two children in the district's Inayat Kili area, who died when a mortar struck their home. Authorities are registering displaced families from the Mamund area and setting up camps in public schools and sports complexes. People also have received food and relief packages, Bajaur government official Saeed Khan said. Sitting at a camp for displaced people in Khar, a main city in the Bajur district, Abid Ullah asked the government to quickly finish the operation so he could return home with his family. Shah Mehmood, a resident from the town of Mamund, said that when the operation began, "the war planes came and they were flying above our heads.' Mehmood said he left with with his family members for their safety and still had bitter memories of a similar 2009 military operation that displaced hundreds of thousands in Bajur. Between 500 and 800 militants are hiding in Bajaur, according to an official who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media. Authorities have not shared details of troop or militant casualties in the operation. Anwarullah Khan in Khar, Pakistan, and Rasool Dawar in Peshawar, Pakistan, contributed.
