Welsh teenager Wells bids to fulfil NBA dream
Explaining the NBA route to BBC Sport Wales, Wells adds: "NJCAA basketball is the highest major college basketball that you can play in America."After that NJCAA Division One, you have the NBA, which is the Premier League in the world."So, in order for me to get to the league, I will have to earn myself a Division One offer from NJCAA."
His journey so far and looking to the future
Inspired by basketball legends Russell Westbrook and James Harden, Wells' basketball journey began at Sevenoaks Park in Grangetown, Cardiff, at the age of 14, thanks to his mother's purchase of a basketball."I ended up coming to this exact court the moment I got my basketball," Wells says. "My first three or four shots went in, and I instantly fell in love with the game."Now heading across the Atlantic Ocean, Wells takes inspiration from Welsh athletes' successes in America, with the likes of Gareth Bale in Major League Soccer and Louis Rees-Zammit's attempts to crack American Football's National Football League (NFL)."It gives me confidence, full confidence, 100%," he adds. "I have always had that confidence in myself ever since I was a 14-year-old kid."Wells also credits Basketball Wales for his development as he continues to make significant strides in his career. He has played for the Welsh national side since under-16 level, having been selected while impressing for Cardiff City Basketball Club."Representing Basketball Wales has been a very big achievement for me," Wells says."They have helped me grow a lot the past few years as I am now in the Wales under-20 national team."In addition, the guard believes that we could see a multitude of Welsh basketball players make similar strides in their careers, especially due to basketball culture in Wales seeing a drastic upwards shift."It is growing at a rapid rate," he says. "I am seeing a lot of young hoopers, a lot of young stars, who could potentially go on to achieve amazing things in the future."Wells says his "ultimate goal" is to become a Welshman playing in the NBA."It is a goal I have been working for, for the past four to five years, and I know I am going to accomplish it," he said.

How Ruben Dias used secret weapon to win over Maya Jama as pals claim couple are plotting major next move
HER enviable charisma and curves make Maya Jama everyone's type on paper, so winning her affection was arguably tougher than landing the treble for her Manchester City boyfriend, Ruben Dias. But eight months on since they quietly started dating, we can reveal the secret weapon Ruben used to score a future with the Love Island host - and pal's claims that they're planning to take a major step in their relationship. 10 10 Having met months after a failed last-ditch effort with her rapper ex Stormzy, the 30-year-old wasn't looking for love when Ruben asked for her number at the MTV Europe Music Awards in his football team's hometown. It had been Maya and Stormzy's second go at a relationship. They first split after five years together in 2020 not long before Maya got engaged to NBA player Ben Simmons following a whirlwind romance. While both relationships weren't meant to be forever, the experiences helped clarify what the presenter wanted - and didn't want - from her next partner. In the weeks before dating footballer Ruben, Maya said: 'The next person I meet I want to marry and have kids with, so obviously I'm feeling fussy.' Our sources say her surprise connection with 28-year-old Ruben caught Maya by surprise - and his commitment early on in dating secured their fate. Pals claim they're now putting plans in place to move in together as their relationship goes from strength to strength. A source told The Sun: 'Maya is incredibly headstrong and confident. After everything she's been through, she knows her worth and won't settle for anything less. 'Her relationship with Ruben is totally different to when she was with Stormzy. She's described how they were babies when they met and his career was more established than Maya's. 'This time, she's come into the relationship on a level playing field as two hugely successful individuals. 'They've both reached their career goals and the world is their oyster, so they're now at a stage where they can focus more on their love lives. Maya Jama kisses footballer boyfriend on romantic holiday and shows off her stunning bikini body 'It's important to Maya that she can trust the person she's with and they are certain about what they want in their future. "She knows who she is now and is looking for someone on equal pegging to enjoy life with." Our insider added: 'Ruben made sure from the start that his intentions with Maya were clear. 'He knows he's struck gold and wants to make sure Maya knows how seriously he feels about her. 10 10 "Being honest and open about what he wants from their future was the secret weapon in securing a future with Maya. "Maya's work, home and friends are in London so she doesn't want to leave there entirely, but is considering going between there and Manchester." Ruben was previously linked to Love Island All Stars' Arabella Chi in the months before setting eyes on Maya Just like his relationships with pop singer April Ivy and actress Daniela Melchior, both from Portugal, their lifestyle differences drove them apart. While the women were happy with the spotlight, Ruben has always preferred a private life. After swapping numbers with Bristol-born Maya, he soon made clear he was looking for something serious away from the cameras. 'This was a real turning point for Maya.' our source added. 'She was impressed that he wasn't looking to gain from their popularity as a couple. He made her feel it was a genuine connection from the off. 'Even though they know their romance is bound to attract attention, they keep the details of their relationship strictly confidential, but he's been keen to post pictures of them together to let everyone know he's taken. 'He's obviously attracted to successful and powerful women. He loves how Maya lights up every room she's in and shines as an individual, but it was also important to him that they are a strong team together. "That was very attractive to Maya." Ruben's desire in a partner matches that of Maya who had a lightbulb moment following the end of her engagement to Australian basketballer Ben and the break-up of her five-year relationship with Stormzy the first time around. 'I refuse to dim myself down," she said at the time. It's a life lesson she has lived by, revealing: 'I'm such a lover, but I am a big leaver as well. 'I know what makes me happy and I know what I like — and this is no disrespect to anyone I've been in a relationship with, but if it's not that then I will leave it. 'My point I always try to make is that I am really, really happy and I have curated this lovely little life for myself and my friends. 'I only want you if you are going to add to that or make it better, otherwise I am not really on it.' 10 Maya's presenting career soared in 2023 when she landed the hosting job on Love Island, after years of being known as Stormzy's girlfriend. In the same year, Ruben made history with his Manchester City teammates when they won the Premier league, FA Cup, and Champions League within a week of each other. The rare feat was a career highlight for the Portuguese national player, who returned to training at City Football Academy this week after spending the summer with Maya. The smitten pair travelled to Italy's Amalfi Coast in a private jet where they sailed on a luxury yacht as they soaked up the sun. It was during this extended break when Maya and Ruben made their relationship official to fans by posting pictures of them together on social media for the first time. In her most recent Instagram post, Maya shared snaps from her holidays with Ruben and filming the latest series of Love Island, captioning it: "Work & play balancing." They've come a long way in the last few months, with Maya having reportedly met Dias's family. She's even started taking Portuguese lessons to impress her other half. A friend said: "It's the happiest we've ever seen Maya. Her career and relationship are both going from strength to strength and she deserves it all."

Wrexham boss Parkinson's lowdown on new signings
Wrexham are preparing for life in English football's second tier for the first time in 43 years and manager Phil Parkinson has added to his squad during Dragons have brought in Wales goalkeeper Danny Ward from Leicester City, forward Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle and left-back Liberato Cacace for a club-record fee from George Thomason from Bolton Wanderers has also signed along with forward Josh Windass, who was a free agent after leaving financially troubled Sheffield signing of midfielder Lewis O'Brien from Nottingham Forest is another statement of intent by the club owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob and Hardie were signed early on in the close season while Parkinson has added another four over recent weeks."We were working hard while we were away in Australia and New Zealand," Parkinson said."It was pointless flying any new signings over because of the jet lag situation, so we'd arranged to finalise deals when we got back."We're pleased with that business we did while we were out there and the new lads have had a good week training with the lads so far." Danny Ward "He's come in and he's been everything we expected. A really good lad, obviously a homecoming for him as well."But a very good goalkeeper and wants to get himself back going again."I think he's done remarkably well to play for Wales when he hasn't been a regular at his club team."I think that's a huge testament to his professionalism." Ryan Hardie "Obviously Ryan, when you look at his goal scoring record in the last two years in a Championship team which was down the bottom of the league and always fighting against it, showed real quality and real coolness in front of goal."He was a signing we wanted to make early and we were able to bring him in, which obviously enabled him to come on the tour with us." Liberato Cacace "We watched him a lot and had a good chat with him over the last few weeks prior to him coming in."I feel he's a good profile for us. - he's hungry, he wants to improve, he's got real determination about the way he plays and he's got power and pace."As we go up into this next division, that's going to be so important."I feel Libby's settled in well. He's a little bit behind in terms of his training than the others because obviously he hasn't done as much pre-season, but he'll get there. George Thomason "I've always liked George and I've watched him a lot over the years."I think he's a player with a lot of potential. He's only 24 and he's eager to test himself at this level."He captained Bolton in the second part of last season and he's a good profile for us in terms of a player who's got a real hunger and desire to keep improving."We're very pleased we were able to bring George in." Josh Windass "He's a player with so much experience and an eye for goal and assists as well. "Josh is a real talent and I think our supporters are going to enjoy watching him play."We looked at him a lot over the summer and obviously there's a bit of turmoil at Sheffield Wednesday."But not just his ability, we looked at his physical output as well and it's really high for his position and that's important as we go into this league or any league."But yeah, he's got craft, he's got quality in and around the box and that's obviously important in the Championship."Games are going to be tight, you're going to need players who are going to produce moments."I think for a free transfer, it was a great opportunity for us and we took it quickly." Lewis O'Brien "I've known him for a long time from his Huddersfield days when he went on loan to Bradford when he was a youngster and he did great."He was part of the Huddersfield team that got in the [2022 Championship] play-off final and obviously got a big money move to Forest."He's had a period where he's been on loan in the MLS and he went to Swansea in the back part of last season."I really like Lewis, I think he's a player with a lot of Championship pedigree. He's a player who's played at this level and done really well and we're very pleased."Lewis is versatile. He can play as a 10, which he did for Swansea. He can play anywhere across the midfield three or sitting in there as a six in a midfield two."So he gives us that flexibility in there. There was a lot of clubs who were trying to do the deal and we were able to get it over the line and we're pleased with that."
