A SEVEN-year-old boy has been hailed a hero for his quick-thinking action in saving his two siblings trapped inside their burning house in Taman Seri Kota, Alor Setar, reported Harian Metro.
In the incident on Sunday morning, Muhammad Danial Fitri ran to a neighbour's house to seek help after his two siblings, Puteri Khaira Irdina, 4 and Muhammad Hakim Zikri, 3, were trapped upstairs.
Their father Mohd Nazmi Mohd Hanifa, 30, said the children were alone at home at the time as he was out working at a mechanic shop while his wife, Siti Norziana Yusof, 23, went to a clinic.
'Danial was sleeping upstairs while his two other siblings were in the other room.
'He was awakened by the strong smell of smoke and, upon seeing flames engulfing the lower floor, quickly ran to a neighbour's house to get help.
'They then quickly contacted the Fire and Rescue Department,' Mohd Nazmi said.
He said that his family had rented the place for almost 11 years. He also did part-time mechanic work at the house.
'When I got home, I was relieved to hear that my children were safe, but devastated to hear that our Proton Wira and eight of my customers' motorcycles had been destroyed,' he added.

16 UK-Bred Dogs To Join JBPM K9 Unit By November

KOTA BHARU, June 5 (Bernama) -- A total of 16 dogs from the United Kingdom (UK) to be received by the Fire and Rescue Department's (JBPM) K9 Unit are expected to begin duties in November. JBPM director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad said each dog costs around RM150,000, adding that five will be deployed to Sabah, two to Sarawak and the remainder to the department's K9 unit base at Jalan Klang Lama in Kuala Lumpur. 'We expect all the dogs to arrive in Malaysia by October, before commencing duties in November after undergoing several processes and training. 'For the selection process, three officers from JBPM, the Veterinary Department, and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) will be sent to the UK. Upon arrival in Malaysia, the dogs will undergo a familiarisation process with their new handlers,' he said. He was speaking to reporters after officiating the 2025 Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption forum here today, also attended by Kelantan JBPM director Farhan Sufyan Borhan. It had been reported that the JBPM K9 Unit will receive 16 new dogs from the UK, valued at RM2.4 million, this year to replace approximately half of the 34 K9 dogs that have reached 10 to 12 years of age, equivalent to 60 years in human age. -- BERNAMA

Consumer groups lodge EU complaint against Shein

PARIS: Consumer groups lodged a complaint against Shein with the European Commission on Thursday, accusing the Chinese-founded e-commerce platform of using 'deceptive' and illegal techniques that fuel overconsumption. The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC), together with 25 members from 21 countries, alleged that Shein uses so-called 'dark patterns' that 'push consumers into purchasing more than originally intended'. These practices also 'fuel the environmental and societal problems caused by the fast fashion industry', the BEUC said in a statement. The complaint aims to complement the European Commission's own investigation into Shein's practices. The EU regulator warned Shein in late May over a series of practices that infringe the bloc's consumer laws, from fake discount deals to misleading product information. The commission gave Shein a month to reply and offer commitments on addressing the issues found during the probe, which was launched in February. The fast-fashion company could be fined if it does not address EU concerns. Shein said in a statement that 'European consumers would be better served if BEUC agreed to meet with us'. The online retailer, originally from China but now based in Singapore, said it was 'working constructively with national consumer protection authorities and with the European Commission to demonstrate our commitment to complying with EU laws and regulations'.
