MLC Kavitha accuses BRS leaders of trying to merge party with BJP

Time of India4 days ago

BRS MLC K Kavitha on Thursday attacked her detractors in the party, alleging that some forces have tried and are trying to merge former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao-led party with the BJP.
In a veiled attack on her brother and BRS Working President K T Rama Rao, she alleged that the merger (proposal was brought to her when she was in prison in the national capital in a
money laundering case
-- Delhi Liquor Police scam case -- last year), which she rejected outright.
There was no immediate reaction from the party.
In an informal chat with the mediapersons, she questioned the party leaders (not KCR) for not coming to her rescue when her name was being maligned on social media and some sections of vernacular papers.
"Instead of controlling the BJP, which is trying to loot Telangana resources, my opinion is that attempts are being made to handover BRS to the BJP. Because when I was in prison, the same proposal was brought to me. I firmly said no. BRS is Sriram Raksha for the
Telangana party
," she said.

The internal differences within BRS came to the fore recently with Kavitha taking exception to the letter she wrote to her father and party president Chandrasekhar Rao getting leaked.
She also had said some conspiracies are taking place in the party. KCR is like a god who is surrounded by some devils. BRS is the party which has the spirit of Telangana and the root cause of the existence of the state. It should not be merged with a national party and the same was conveyed to her father KCR, she further said.
The daughter of KCR also asked why there were no agitations announced when the former CM got notices from the judicial commission on the Kaleshwaram project in Telangana, led by former
Supreme Court
judge Justice P C Ghose, to appear before it.
"What are you celebrating in the United States? I don't understand why we are not celebrating anything at the grassroots level?," she asked her brother, Rama Rao, without taking his name.
Rama Rao is currently touring the USA and UK.

Rama Rao last week, responding to a question about the letter written by his sister to the BRS president and her comments that KCR is surrounded by some "devils", he said that internal party matters should be discussed within the party instead of speaking out in public.
Kavitha said she offered to resign from the MLC post when she was arrested in the money laundering case. However KCR said it was not required.
She also accused some party leaders' role in getting her defeated in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls in Nizamabad segment.

'Kept pleading for help': BJP's Nishikant Dubey cites declassified files to slam Nehru's foreign policy

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey NEW DELHI: BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Congress, targeting former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru over his handling of the 1962 Indo-China war. Referring to Nehru's appeals during the conflict, Dubey said, 'Nehru kept pleading for help.' The remark came in response to the Congress party 's criticism of external affairs minister S Jaishankar for 'informing' Pakistan about Operation Sindoor . In retaliation, Dubey took to X to highlight what he called the flawed foreign policy of previous Congress governments, especially under Nehru. Dubey posted a letter written by Nehru to then US President John F Kennedy, calling it 'the second letter written by Iron Lady's father Nehru ji to the American President during the China war. He kept pleading for help.' Sarcastically attacking Nehru's diplomatic approach, Dubey added, 'Pakistan is a brother, a friend, a good neighbour, we will reach an agreement with them, everything was written. But carefully read the excellent foreign policy of the great Nehru ji.' According to Dubey, the US passed Nehru's letter to then Pakistani military ruler Ayub Khan . 'America sent this letter to Pakistan's military ruler Ayub Khan. After seeing this letter, did we give Pakistan a chance to attack India in 1965 or not? What can be said about the person who tells the country's weaknesses to foreigners, especially Pakistan?' Earlier in the day, Dubey also responded to Congress leader Pawan Khera's post on X by digging further into history. He referenced another letter, Nehru's 1945 communication to British Prime Minister Clement Attlee regarding Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Hemavathy canal protest: FIR against 3 MLAs, 2 religious heads

TUMAKURU: The Gubbi police have booked three legislators and two religious heads among others for Saturday's protest opposing the Hemavathy Express canal, a pet project of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. FIRs were registered against 11 people, including Turuvekere MLA MT Krishnappa of JDS, Tumakuru Rural MLA B Suresh Gowda and city MLA GB Jyothiganesh, both from BJP. The FIRs mentioned two khavi-wearing persons (religious heads), but did not name them. Some non-bailable charges were also included in the FIRs as one of the police personnel was severely injured. They were charged under Sections 191, 115(2), 121(1), 132, 189(2), 190, 223, 351(2) and 352 of BNS. It's alleged that they gathered unlawfully at the project site at Sunkapura, indulged in rioting, voluntarily caused hurt to the public servant by throwing stones and deterred them from discharging their duties, among others. The protesters had alleged that Shivakumar was diverting the canal to take water to his home district Ramanagara. On Friday, thousands of people protested and blocked the Bengaluru-Shivamogga-Honnavara NH-206 at the project site at Sunkapura in Gubbi taluk. They set tyres on fire besides deflating the tyres of KSRTC buses, creating inconvenience to passengers. Shivakumar claimed that 40% of the work has been completed and the Rs 1,500 crore project cannot be stalled at this stage. It's being implemented after the technical committee submitted its report, Tumakuru district in-charge and Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara claimed. Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti V Somanna had written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to stop the project, calling it 'unscientific'. Congress MLA from Gubbi ST Srinivas on Sunday said he too will oppose the project. 'I will meet Shivakumar and raise the issue as the project will affect farmers of Tumakuru district,' he told reporters. 'Attempt to murder inspector' In a separate FIR, BJP leader Dilip Kumar and his supporters Rakesh, Koushik and hundreds of others were booked on charges of attempt to murder under Section 109 of BNS. Turuvekere Police Circle Inspector Lohith BN was injured severely in stone throwing. He was shifted to Siddaganga hospital in Tumakuru.

Embankments in poor shape, flood risk looms Baripada

BARIPADA: Residents of 28 wards across Baripada Municipality are concerned over alleged inaction of the minor irrigation wing in ensuring proper drainage of storm water through the town's river systems, including Jarali, Sarali, Sukhjoda and Budhabalanga. Locals say the embankment work and stone packing along Budhabalanga river and the ring road, which could mitigate flooding, have not been undertaken either by the previous or by the current government. Even after 11 months of the BJP government, no funds have been sanctioned for flood prevention, despite a proposal by Baripada MLA and Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, they said. In his proposal, the minister sought Rs 292 crore for construction of embankments and restoration of river systems.
