Revealed: Danika Mason's disaster at surf icon Mick Fanning's WILD charity golf day

Daily Mail16-06-2025
Today star Danika Mason appears to have been in a golf cart that crashed during a charity golf day last Friday, with her Nine colleague Karl Stefanovic taking great delight in highlighting the incident on Monday's show.
Stefanovic - who was also at Aussie surf legend Mick Fanning's charity day in Queensland - put up a shot of a golf cart bearing Mason's name after it seemingly crashed into a lake on the course.
'Can you explain this shot? This is at the Mick Fanning golf day on the weekend, I just want to take you to this shot here,' Stefanovic told viewers.
'Just on that golf cart there, which is in the ocean, can you explain what happened there?'
A laughing Mason replied, 'Hey, that's a sign of a good weekend!'
Mason was sharing the cart with surfer Macy Callaghan and the Nine footy reporter obviously saw the lighter side of the unplanned excursion, sharing Today's post about it on her Instagram story on Monday morning.
Daily Mail Australia does not suggest alcohol was a factor in whatever happened to Mason's golf cart - but plenty of other attendees at Fanning's fundraiser were up-front about having a few beverages during their round.
AFL WAG Bec Judd revealed in an Instagram post that she'd been 'having too much fun' while raising funds for Aussies who'd been hit by the floods in the northern rivers region of NSW.
She listed things she learned during the day at the course in Coolangatta.
'A bar and entertainment at most of the 18 holes is very dangerous,' she wrote, before adding, 'Shoeys aren't that bad if the shoes are clean.'
Judd admitted in a later post to 'having the time of your life dancing in the buggy, slightly drunk and distracted' with the golf day's Instagram account also posting a photo of her drinking that shoey.
The event - which also attracted stars like footy legend Brendan Fevola, singer Shannon Noll, comedian and Nine star Hamish Blake, AFL star Mason Cox and tennis great Dylan Alcott - featured espresso martini bars, lashings of Fanning's Balter beer and even backflipping motocross daredevils on the course.
Videos from the event showed one participant appearing to be thrown into a lake, shocked stars hitting exploding golf balls, and four male players pulling their pants down and mooning the camera.
One shot posted by the day's Instagram account showed Callaghan having a drink of some description while in the driver's seat of the buggy but Mason wasn't a passenger at the time.
Fanning's golf days have been a stunning success since they were first held in 2022, and this year the celebrities could've bagged a stunning $1million and a Mercedes-Benz if they hit a hole-in-one.
'Since 2022, we have raised almost $2million, which is something I am very proud of,' the former world surfing champion told Daily Mail Australia.
'I'm not much of a golfer myself, I just like having a hit with my mates.
'Knowing it is for such a good cause, that motivates me.'
Mason is now vying for the title of Australian TV's hardest-working star as she juggles covering the NRL with her work on Today.
She often goes from covering matches until late at night on a Thursday before being front and centre in the studio with hosts Stefanovic and Sarah Abo before the crack of dawn, then backing up to cover the NRL once again on Friday night, and then again during the Sunday afternoon match.
This Sunday she was at Homebush as wild scenes hit the Bulldogs vs Rabbitohs clash, with play halted due to dangerous weather as lighting strikes forced both teams from the field.
It was the first time an NRL match had been suspended due to dangerous weather since an Anzac Day hailstorm struck in 2015.

Married At First Sight bride Domenica Calarco reveals bizarre pregnancy fear that has left her 'terrified' of daily task

Domenica Calarco has shared a fear she has developed during her pregnancy that has left her 'terrified.' The former Married At First Sight bride posted a video to Instagram Stories explaining that she has become fearful of driving. 'I'm at that stage where I don't want to drive by myself, because I'm terrified I'm going to go into labour while I'm driving,' she said. 'I don't know, has that ever happened?' the 31-year-old added. Dom also explained that she had been undergoing 'every beauty treatment possible' such as having her brows done before the baby arrived. In recent months, Dom admitted to fans that she had been struggling through a difficult pregnancy. The star revealed that she has been hospitalised due to illness while pregnant with her first child. She told her fans in a Q&A session on Instagram Stories that she's made two trips to hospital because of thyroiditis. 'Ended up in hospital twice over my first trimester for fluids and to monitor bub when my thyroiditis was at its peak!' she wrote. Dom also shared that she had lost six kilos since falling pregnant due to the illness and was 'scared of being judged for that'. 'I lost six kilos and feel like a shell of myself right now, so trying to put on weight and eat as much as I can while I still don't really have an appetite. It's a journey,' she said. Thyroiditis is a condition causing thyroid gland inflammation, often caused by the autoimmune disease Hashimoto's. Dom recently confirmed she will be a solo parent, days after announcing her pregnancy. The former reality TV star has split from her boyfriend Jarod Bogunovich, and deleted all traces of the Bondi skater from her social media. Domenica exclusively confirmed to Daily Mail Australia that she will be raising her child as a single mum, as she addressed the break-up rumours. 'I am incredibly excited about this next chapter in my life and feel truly empowered by my decision to step into motherhood on my own terms,' she said. 'While I will be welcoming this baby as a solo parent, I am grateful to have the support of the father in a co-parenting capacity.' Domenica, who rose to fame in 2022 on season nine of the hit series, said she is embracing this journey 'wholeheartedly'. 'Been a little MIA working on my greatest project the MAFS alum captioned her pregnancy announcement post. She added: 'Due September 2025.' Domenica is asking her fans to respect her privacy, as she explains that she is 'proud' that she has made 'the best decision' for herself, and her unborn child. 'This journey is one that I embrace wholeheartedly, with all its highs and lows, and I am beyond proud to be stepping into this role [as a single mum] with strength, love, and a deep sense of purpose,' she said. 'I also want to acknowledge and support others who choose to embark on parenthood alone - there is so much power in making the best decision for yourself and your child.'

See the moment the daughter of an Aussie sporting legend FLIPS another fighter over her shoulder during a boxing match - and why an MMA great now wants her to join the UFC

Australian boxing star Jasmine Parr demolished her opponent Efasha Kamarudin, sealing victory on Wednesday night in Sydney via a technical knockout in the fifth round. The 22-year-old Australian, who is the daughter of Aussie combat sports legend, John Wayne Parr, blasted her way past her undefeated Singaporean opponent, with a relentless onslaught of punches, to extend her fighting record to 8-1 at the ICC Exhibition Centre in Sydney. However, there was a controversial moment during the fight, when Parr appeared to throw her opponent over her shoulder. The Queenslander, who has received the backing of Aussie UFC great in recent weeks, backed her 34-year-old opponent into the ropes with a string of punches. Kamarudin advanced forward and swung a big right hook at Parr. The Australian, whose last fight came earlier in May, ducked out of the way of the big swing, appearing to get underneath the Singaporean as her momentum carried her away from the ropes. Parr then stood up, lifting Kamarudin with her over her shoulder with a fireman's carry. She then flipped Kamarudin over her back, with the 34-year-old's hips transitioning above her head, before falling to the canvas. Thankfully, Kamarudin managed to twist her body in the fall, preventing her from landing on her head and neck. 'That could have gone either way,' the commentators on Kayo said. The referee briefly paused the bout and gave Parr a warning over the illegal throw, with the fighter still going on to claim victory. Fighting runs in the blood for Parr, with her dad, John, who is also known as 'The Gunslinger', having claimed 10 world championships during his glittering kick boxing and Muay Thai fighting career. He also boxed professionally too, having won 11 out of 14 professional fights, claiming knockouts in 10 of those. Parr began her fighting journey practising kickboxing and would later transition into boxing, having only lost once in her career - a defeat by Aussie boxing queen Shannon O'Connell last year. Even Alexander Volkanovski has been impressed with her fighting ability, and perhaps after flipping her opponent over her shoulder in tonight's bout, the Aussie MMA great might be even more keen to coax Parr to join the UFC. Her manager is Ash Belcastro, who also represents the likes of Volkanovski. 'I'd absolutely love for Jazzy to go to the UFC,' Belcastro said to Fox Sports. 'And we have spoken about it already. 'Right now though, she's shutting me down. 'She has goals and aspirations in boxing and I respect that. 'I'd actually love for her to achieve what she wants in boxing and then switch straight across to the UFC. 'Because she's a boxer who has also been a Muay Thai fighter, a kickboxer, and given her lineage … absolutely she can be a success there'.

Top coach makes horror claim that Australian athletes have a 'natural genetic advantage' to Asians

The former manager of the Philippines' men's national basketball team, Yeng Guiao, has appeared to claim that Australian and New Zealand teams should not play in the same competitions as the Philippines because he believes players from those countries have 'a natural advantage in genetics'. Australia clinched their third successive FIBA Asia Cup title last week, beating China by one point in what was a nerve-shredding final. The Philippines were knocked out in the quarter-finals of the tournament by the Boomers, with the Gilas, who are now coached by American Tim Cone, suffering an 84-60 defeat. But their former coach, Guiao, who took charge of the team between 2018 and 2019, appeared to claim according to the Philippine Star, that the Kiwis and Aussies should not be playing in the same zone as the Philippines. 'Australia and New Zealand shouldn't be playing in our zone,' Guiao, who now coaches the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, said according to the Philippine Star. 'They have a natural advantage in genetics. 'They should be playing in some other zone, not in Asia. 'It's tough enough to beat Japan, Korea, Iran, Jordan, Chinese-Taipei, China and Lebanon but we can beat them.' There is no basis in fact to prove that Guiao's claim is correct. The former Philippines coach, who has also worked as the Philippine Basketball League commissioner, admitted that while he wasn't too disappointed by the quarter-final defeat by the Boomers, it was disappointing to suffer a loss against Chinese Taipei in the group stages. Guiao has also been impressed by the work of coach Cone, who notably led the side to winning gold at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. 'Coach Tim has his own style and his track record of success is evident,' Guiao said, per the Philippine Star. 'The triangle and playing a short rotation are two things he's known for; it's his brand. He proved what we can do by winning gold at the Asian Games. 'Let's rally behind him and not be critical.' Interestingly, he also went on to admit it was important for the Philippines to continue playing top sides. He added: 'Trending in the international game are shooting threes, playing with pace and space, scoring in transition. 'If your opponent plays fast, you have to play faster. It's also about developing basketball IQ and we can do it if we continue to play together. 'The important thing is we keep playing teams like Australia and New Zealand to get better.'
