Iowa football 2025 schedule preview: Week 3 vs UMass
The UMass Minutemen will make the trip over to Iowa City to try and steal a big road win. It won't be easy for them, as they've been one of the worst FBS football schools over the past decade.
UMass hasn't won more than four games in a season since it joined the FBS in 2012. They're 6-46 since the 2019 season and have struggled to gain any traction over the past decade and a half. They're currently coached by Joe Harasymiak, who was hired in December to be the 32nd head football coach in the program's history. UMass plays its home games at Warren McGuirk Alumni Stadium in Hadley, Massachusetts.
It's going to take a lot of things going right for UMass to pull off the upset. For starters, they'll have to lean on some solid veterans returning for the 2025 season.

Iowa and UMass have never faced each other in football before, so the winner of this Week 3 matchup will hold the edge in this matchup for a while. It's a game the Hawkeyes should win, but that doesn't mean Iowa fans should pencil in a win just yet. They'll need to go out and take care of business to set themselves up in a good spot entering Big Ten conference play. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on September 13.

Cowboys officially lose a 2024 draft pick to another NFL team
Sometimes draft picks just don't work out for the teams that picked them. Underperformance, scheme changes, misevaluations, injuries, patience and general mishandling can all lead to a premature parting of the ways. Drafting isn't an exact art and situations change. Rodgers has just signed on with the Seattle Seahawks this week. At 6-foot-2, 338 pounds, Rogers was once billed as a potential solution to the Cowboys run-stuffing problems in the middle of their line. A rotational plugger had been lacking in Dallas for some time and finding a stubborn speed bump became a low-key priority each offseason. Unfortunately, Rogers never quite worked out. Despite all of Dallas' ongoing issues at defensive tackle, Rogers failed to make the cut out of camp. After latching on with the Cincinnati Bengals for the 2024 regular season, the Cowboys re-signed their former pick in the offseason of 2025. The reunion proved to be short lived. Winfrey plays a different brand of DT entirely. Fitting the 3-technique profile, Winfrey is one of a handful of players competing for snaps behind Osa Odighizuwa. It's the 300+ pound rookies Jay Toia and Tommy Akingbesote who are what likely made Rogers expendable. Now it's up to them to do what Rogers could not: make the final roster and improve the Cowboys run defense inside. In 2022 the Cowboys were in a similar situation with rookie defensive tackle John Ridgeway. Facing a roster crunch at positions elsewhere, Ridgeway found himself on the wrong side of the bubble when it came time to trim the final roster. Ridgeway went on to sign with Washington and has been a rotational piece in the years since. Rogers hopes for the same fortune in his post-Cowboys employment. The Cowboys, on the other hand, can't afford to lose another promising draft pick to a rival club. How much is UNC's football program valued at?
How much does the UNC football program cost? Thanks to the invention of NIL money and the transfer portal, college football continues to become increasingly professional by the day. UNC's 2025 offseason is a perfect illustration of the changing CFB landscape. Needing a starting quarterback for the fall, North Carolina paid $4 million to land South Alabama transfer quarterback Gio Lopez. The Tar Heels replaced their entire starting defensive line through the portal, plus added Marshall kicker Rece Verhoff. With college football now essentially a "mini-NFL," the question of selling teams comes into play. In The Athletic's recent "valuation rankings", UNC would sell for $572 million, making it the 26th-most valuable college football franchise. North Carolina is one spot behind Ole Miss, which has a $591 million price tag, plus a spot ahead of South Carolina ($563 million.) The Tar Heels generate an average $63.6 million in annual football revenue, a figure that is lowest amongst the Top 30. The portal is a great addition to college sports, particularly for senior-heavy teams needing to replace a plethora of starters, but the portal is also essentially free agency. Think about professional sports: you have franchise cornerstones, who remain on the same rosters for extended periods of time, but trades and free agency create a sense of unknown. UNC has high expectations heading into its 2025 season, thanks to hiring 8-time Super Bowl champion Bill Belichick as its next head coach. If North Carolina somehow wins the ACC and makes the College Football Playoff, its program value will shoot up closer towards SEC numbers. If the Tar Heels struggle again this fall, their value will stay the same – or even decrease. People are less likely to pay and see a losing product, which UNC proved to be again in 2024. After dominating the FCS level, Gronowski brings a proven track record to Iowa. He accounted for over 12,000 total yards and 130 touchdowns at South Dakota State, capturing the Walter Payton Award in 2023. If Iowa's offense takes a step forward this season, the experienced dual-threat quarterback will likely be the reason why.
