With the NFL's deepest QB room, is it wise for the Browns to target another experienced quarterback in a trade?
Cleveland Browns QB situation (Credit: @_dillongabriel_/X)
The Cleveland Browns find themselves in a familiar position — once again surrounded by quarterback uncertainty. With Deshaun Watson's Achilles rupture sidelining him for the remainder of the 2024 NFL season and a reinjury during rehab in January casting doubt over his availability for 2025, the team had been bracing for a future without its high-profile quarterback.
But recent developments have reopened a sliver of hope.
Should the Browns risk their QB chemistry to trade for a more consistent and experienced playmaker?
In May, it was reported that the Browns had not ruled out the possibility of Watson returning at some point during the 2025 season. While that update stirred optimism among fans, the reality remains murky. Watson's clearance to play is far from certain, and the Browns may not even be counting on him to reclaim his role. In fact, Cleveland has made significant offseason moves suggesting they're prepared to move forward without him — at least for now.
The team loaded up its quarterback room, adding veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett alongside rookie hopefuls Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. That quartet is set to compete fiercely in training camp, with hopes pinned especially on the younger talents to emerge as future starters. The veterans, while experienced, carry question marks — Flacco's prime is long behind him, and Pickett's inconsistency in Pittsburgh hardly inspired confidence.

BROWNS QB BATTLE HEATS UP AS TEAM OTA PRACTICES UNDERWAY - The Daily Grossi
If the Browns are banking on Watson making a miracle comeback to save their season, it likely means things have gone south early. That's why outside voices are urging the front office to consider a more aggressive move.
The Draft Network's Justin Melo made waves with a bold suggestion: Cleveland should pursue Kirk Cousins. As Melo put it, "Cleveland's ceiling would be significantly higher with Cousins at quarterback.
The Browns possess a stellar roster, and it's easy to envision the four-time Pro Bowler keeping them in postseason contention. We're not convinced Flacco or Pickett could achieve the same. Adding Cousins would allow Gabriel and Sanders to develop slowly behind the scenes.
"
Despite a turbulent 2024 season with the Falcons — where Cousins threw 18 touchdowns but also a league-high 16 interceptions — the veteran remains a more reliable hand than Flacco or Pickett.
His recent absence from Atlanta's OTAs adds fuel to the trade rumors, signaling that he may already be eyeing a change of scenery. That could lower his trade value and make him an appealing option for Cleveland — assuming the Browns are willing to part ways with one of their current quarterbacks.
As training camp looms, the Browns are running out of time to solidify their QB plan. Whether it's betting on youth, counting on a Watson resurgence, or making a move for Cousins, Cleveland's 2025 campaign may ultimately be defined by how they handle this high-stakes quarterback dilemma.

Bubba Watson among 7 LIV golfers to WD from U.S. Open qualifier
Bubba Watson was one of seven players tied to LIV Golf that opted to withdraw from a U.S. Open final qualifying site on Monday in Rockville, Md. Monday is the final day of U.S. Open qualifying, often billed as "the longest day in golf," as players at 10 sites across North America play 36 holes to compete for the final spots in the major championship field. A number of LIV Golf members signed up to play at the Woodmont Country Club qualifying site before the league plays outside Washington, D.C., later this week. Watson opted not to move forward with the qualifier, joined by Ben Campbell of New Zealand, David Puig of Spain, Matt Jones of Australia, Thomas Pieters of Belgium and Englishman Lee Westwood. Additionally, Australia's Wade Ormsby, a reserve who has appeared in two LIV events in 2025, dropped out. Not all LIV players decided to skip out, of course. Marc Leishman of Australia shot a 1-under-par 70 in his first 18 holes. Brendan Steele and India's Anirban Lahiri were in the mix after even-par 71s. However, only the top four players at the site will qualify for the major, slated for June 12-15 at Oakmont Country Club outside Pittsburgh. Several of LIV's most prominent players are already in the U.S. Open field. Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson and Spaniard Jon Rahm are invited as U.S. Open winners from the past 10 years; DeChambeau is the defending champion. Englishman Richard Bland was invited after winning the 2024 U.S. Senior Open. A pair of other recent major winners Phil Mickelson and Cameron Smith are exempt as well. Sergio Garcia of Spain fell one stroke shy of a playoff at a final qualifying site last month in Dallas. Field Level Media

Who is Carl Nassib? All you need to know about the first openly gay player in the NFL
Carl Nassib, first openly gay player to play in NFL games (Getty Images) Carl Nassib's journey from NFL standout to history-maker just took another meaningful turn. His Raiders jersey will now be permanently displayed at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. 'I just want to take a quick moment to say that I'm gay,' Nassib had revealed in a heartfelt 2021 Instagram video. His courage not only broke barriers in the NFL but continues to inspire inclusion and acceptance nationwide. All about Carl Nassib, first openly gay player in the NFL Early life and background Born on April 12, 1993, in West Chester, Pennsylvania, Carl Paul Nassib grew up in a football-oriented family. Attended Malvern Preparatory School before enrolling at Penn State University, where he walked on to the football team. College Career Nassib started as a walk-on at Penn State, earning a scholarship and becoming a standout player. In 2015, his lone season as a starter, he led the NCAA with 15.5 sacks and won the Lombardi Award as the nation's top college lineman or linebacker. His performance showcased his work ethic and grit, traits he later emphasized as key to success in football regardless of personal identity. NFL career Selected by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, Nassib played seven seasons across three teams: Cleveland Browns (2016–2017): Played two seasons, part of a challenging 0-16 season in 2017. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2018–2019, 2022): Had two stints, totaling three seasons. Las Vegas Raiders (2020–2021): Played two seasons, during which he made his historic announcement. Over 100 games, Nassib recorded 25.5 sacks, 187 tackles, 59 quarterback hits, four forced fumbles, and one interception. On September 13, 2021, in a Monday Night Football game against the Baltimore Ravens, Nassib made a game-changing strip-sack on quarterback Lamar Jackson in overtime, leading to a Raiders' 33-27 victory. This marked him as the first openly gay player to appear in an NFL regular-season game. Coming out and historic milestone On June 21, 2021, Nassib came out as gay via an Instagram video from his home in West Chester, Pennsylvania. He stated, 'I just want to take a quick moment to say that I'm gay. I've been meaning to do this for a while now, but I finally feel comfortable enough to get it off my chest.' He emphasized the importance of representation and visibility, hoping that coming out would one day be unnecessary. Carl Nassib opens up on his football journey & coming out as NFL's first Gay player| The Pivot Nassib revealed he agonized over the decision for 15 years, describing himself as a private person not seeking attention. A pivotal moment came during a conversation with his openly gay uncle, who was dying of cancer, which inspired Nassib to come out publicly to support others. A humorous incident during a 2020 game against the Browns, where players reacted negatively to Nassib using 'gay' as a derogatory term, also reassured him of allies in the NFL. His announcement was widely praised by the NFL, teammates, fans, and media. The NFL issued a statement supporting Nassib's courage and commitment to equality, and the Raiders matched his $100,000 donation to The Trevor Project, a nonprofit focused on suicide prevention for LGBTQ+ youth. While Michael Sam was the first openly gay player drafted by the NFL (St. Louis Rams, 2014), he never played in a regular-season game. Nassib's active participation set a new precedent, building on Sam's groundwork. Post-NFL career and legacy Nassib announced his retirement on September 6, 2023, calling it a 'bittersweet' moment. He shifted focus to his company, Rayze, a social media platform connecting volunteers with nonprofits, inspired by his volunteering experiences with the Buccaneers. Nassib has continued supporting The Trevor Project, including announcing a Cleveland Browns draft pick in 2024 alongside the organization's founder. He also works with the NFL on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, leveraging his unique perspective as an openly gay former player. On May 21, 2025, the Smithsonian National Museum of American History began displaying Nassib's No. 94 Raiders jersey from the 2021 Ravens game, recognizing his historic contribution to 'Athletic Achievement and Social Progress.' Nassib's coming out was a landmark for the NFL and men's professional sports, demonstrating that openly gay athletes could thrive without compromising their careers. Media analyses noted widespread support, suggesting a shift toward inclusive masculinity in sports. His visibility inspired others, including Jacksonville Jaguars assistant strength coach Kevin Maxen, who came out in 2023. Nassib's actions provided a model for future athletes, emphasizing personal authenticity and professional success. While Nassib remains the only NFL player to come out while active, his experience highlighted growing acceptance in sports, though challenges like homophobia persist. He expressed hope that more players would come out on their own terms. Nassib described football as a 'punishing industry' where work ethic, perseverance, and grit outweigh personal identity. He valued the NFL's support and aimed to foster a compassionate culture. Known for financial savvy, Nassib gained attention during HBO's Hard Knocks for advising teammates on savings, reflecting his practical approach to life. Carl Nassib's journey from a Penn State walk-on to an NFL trailblazer underscores his resilience and commitment to authenticity. His historic coming out in 2021, impactful play, and ongoing philanthropy through Rayze and The Trevor Project have cemented his legacy as a pioneer for LGBTQ+ visibility in sports. His Smithsonian recognition ensures his story will inspire future generations. Will Stefon Diggs get suspended before his Patriots debut after the yacht video scandal?
Stefon Diggs' offseason antics have stirred controversy for the New England Patriots (Image via AP) In what should have been a focused offseason for the New England Patriots, new wide receiver Stefon Diggs has found himself at the center of a growing controversy. A video showing Diggs partying on a yacht instead of attending voluntary Organized Team Activities (OTAs) has ignited debate about his commitment to his new team—and raised questions about his recovery from a season-ending ACL tear in 2024. Patriots hopeful for Stefon Diggs' return, but controversy clouds progress After tearing his ACL in Week 8 last year while playing for the Houston Texans, Diggs' future in the league became uncertain. Though Houston had restructured his contract shortly after trading for him, the injury essentially ended his stint there. The Patriots, however, took a gamble—signing the former Pro Bowler to a three-year, $69 million deal, hoping he could become a reliable target for rookie quarterback Drake Maye under new head coach Mike Vrabel. Despite the injury, Diggs was brought in to be the team's No. 1 receiver—a veteran presence for a team entering a rebuild. But the optimism surrounding the signing has been tested in recent days. Earlier this week, a video surfaced of Diggs aboard a yacht, reportedly handing out a questionable substance. While OTAs are voluntary, the optics were far from ideal for a team trying to foster discipline and unity under a new regime. Mike Vrabel keeps it professional amid media storm Coach Vrabel addressed the issue without directly criticizing his player, telling the media: 'Any conversations that I've had with Stefon will remain between him and I and the club… the timelines, and the prognosis, we're working hard to get him back and be ready to go. When he's here, we'll coach him and have him ready to go.' Vrabel's comments were measured, but the underlying message was clear: presence matters, especially when expectations are high. The situation could escalate further. The NFL is expected to review the yacht video for possible violations of the league's substance policy. If any wrongdoing is confirmed, Diggs could face disciplinary action, including a fine or suspension. While he's never been suspended in the NFL, he did serve a one-game ban in college for 'touching an official in the face.'
