Paul George officially out for season after injections in troublesome knee, groin

Yahoo18-03-2025
Teams around the league took notice after Utah was hit with a $100,000 fine for not playing Lauri Markkanen in violation of the NBA's Player Participation Policy. It's not that teams are going to stop tanking, they are just going to make sure it looks legitimate when they do it. Which brings us to Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia 76ers announced Monday that Paul George "has received injections in both his left adductor muscle and left knee" and will be out through the end of the season. This was expected when it was reported last week George was consulting with physicians.

It seems a fitting end to a disappointing season for the nine-time All-Star. George has been out since March 6 due to a groin injury. He's been playing through knee issues all season — he hyperextended his knee in the preseason and again in November, which is why he's been limited to 41 games this season.
With Joel Embiid out for the season and the 76ers tanking — trying to hold on to their top-six protected pick — getting George these shots and sitting him for the rest of the season is the smart move, both short and long-term.
George signed a four-year, $212 million max contract to come to Philadelphia last summer. However, he has not lived up to that contract due to injuries and is averaging 16.2 points a game (his fewest since 2012) and struggling with other aspects of his game.
Philly is locked into the massive contracts of George and Embiid and will run it back next season. The best thing Sixers fans can hope for is for that duo to get healthy and come in next season ready to look like the contender everyone expected them to be this season.

Dillon Gabriel Throws Costly Interception in NFL Preseason Debut

Dillon Gabriel Throws Costly Interception in NFL Preseason Debut originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Former Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel has been one of the more interesting names to follow in the NFL preseason so far this year, with the drama of the Cleveland Browns quarterback competition unfolding before us. While Gabriel was sidelined in the first preseaon game of the year with a hamstring injury, he got the start in Week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles. The early returns were great, with Gabriel nearly perfect throwing the ball, leading a 13-play touchdown drive on his first series under center. However, his second drive saw a costly mistake, with Gabriel forcing a pass and throwing a pick-six to Eagles rookie defensive back Andre Mukuba. Dillon Gabriel Preseason Stats Through the first half, Gabriel completed 13-of-18 passes for 91437 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. Following his interception, Gabriel led another scoring drive with a field goal, but the Browns' next drive ended in a fumble on a poor handoff exchange. Cleveland Browns Quarterback Competition Outlook There has been a lot of intrigue surrounding the Browns' QB competition, unsurprisingly. After drafting Gabriel in the third round, and Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round, a lot of fans have speculated as to who will ultimately be named the starter this season. There are also candidates like Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco, as well. Sanders got the start in the first preseason game of the year and looked great, completing 14-of-23 passes for 138 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also rushed for 19 yards in a 30-10 win over the Carolina Panthers. Sanders hurt his oblique this past week in practice, so he is unavailable to play in the preseason game on Saturday against the Eagles. There is some hope that he will be able to return next week, though, and play at least one more time before the preseason is over. We will see how much longer the Browns keep Gabriel out there on Saturday against the Eagles, but he has looked solid in spurts, with just a couple of inexcusable mistakes hurting his overall story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 16, 2025, where it first appeared.
