'We watched Gavin And Stacey on repeat': Richard E Grant goes on 'emotional' tour in memory of his late wife

Yahoo25-06-2025
Richard E Grant has shared an emotional video of his trip to Barry - the town made famous by the hit TV show Gavin And Stacey.
He was joined by the show's co-creator Ruth Jones, who is best known for playing Nessa.
They are both filming a new drama called The Other Bennet Sister, which delves into a character in Jane Austen's Pride And Prejudice.
Grant excitedly said "oh my god" as he stood outside Stacey's family home - and headed across the road to Uncle Bryn's.
A trip to Barry Island soon followed to visit some of the sitcom's most famous landmarks, including Marco's Cafe and the beachfront.
And the actor's visit wouldn't have been complete without Jones putting on her best Nessa voice - and asking: "Oh, Rich, what's occurin'?
"It's really emotional being here," Grant said.
"The last months of my wife's life, we watched Gavin And Stacey on repeat - and it just cheered us up endlessly."
In 2021, Grant announced that his wife Joan Washington had died - eight months after she was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer.
At the time, he described his family's loss as "incalculable".

Prince William & Kate Middleton Are Eyeing a Home With a Dark Royal Legacy & They Reportedly Love It

In 2022, Prince William and Kate Middleton hightailed it out of London for the cozier quarters of Adelaide Cottage on the grounds of Windsor Castle. The four-bedroom home was considered modest for a royal family because there was no room for household staff, but the Prince and Princess of Wales wanted it that way. Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, had their parents all to themselves without any outside influence. Now, the royal couple is reportedly ready to move to greener pastures, per The Mail on Sunday. More from SheKnows Nicole Kidman Is the Latest Hollywood Star To Embrace European Living With a Harry & Meghan Twist The U.K. media outlet is reporting that Kate and William are eyeing Fort Belvedere, a 'gothic-revival mansion nestled in a hidden corner of Windsor Great Park' with a very scandalous past. It was formerly the home of Edward VIII, who abdicated the throne to marry his love, Wallis Simpson. (A story that sort of mirrors Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal story.) It seems that Kate and Charlotte are pushing for the move because the 59-acre estate features an outdoor swimming pool and tennis court — we know how much the mother and daughter adore Wimbledon! In addition to the A-list amenities, the grounds are stunning with numerous gardens, a greenhouse, stables for horses, two lakes, and cottages for staff members. 'They feel they have outgrown Adelaide Cottage and need somewhere more substantial,' a source told the media outlet, noting that the move is 'imminent' due to their growing needs. 'This is the perfect new home for them. It has a swimming pool and tennis court, and Charlotte loves playing tennis.' The couple's move to Windsor in 2022 was definitely a pointed choice, and royal expert Ingrid Seward explained to The Sun that year why they made the move. 'I think Wills and Kate need space to bring up their children,' she shared. 'Kensington Palace is a glorious prison for kids — they want to be able to play football without being watched from behind the gates. I think Windsor will be perfect for them, as they will have lots of freedom and they can all be at school together.' The Wales' were able to spend valuable time with Queen Elizabeth II before her passing, and it was a sanctuary for Kate during her cancer journey. Kensington Palace would have been a paparazzi zoo if they had lived there during her health battle. William and Kate have continued to prioritize their family's needs over the years, and with the kids growing up, it sounds like they are ready for a little more space to move around. Prince William & Kate Middleton's 'Fresh Start' Home Comes With a Refreshing Financial Detail

It is officially confirmed; Prince William and Kate Middleton are on the move. The royal couple will be leaving their cozy Adelaide Cottage to move to their 'forever home' at Forest Lodge, according to The Sun. A Kensington Palace spokesperson also confirmed their relocation to People, 'The Wales family will move house later this year.' More from SheKnows Nick & Vanessa Lachey's Head-Turning Real Estate Decision Shows How Much They Loved Their Dream Home The move, per a source for The Sun, noted that it is a 'fresh start' for Kate, William, and their three children: Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, after the death of Queen Elizabeth, and Kate and King Charles' cancer. There also appears to be a Prince Harry and Meghan Markle lesson to their relocation, too — the royal pair is going to pay for their movie and monthly rent out of their personal bank accounts. They want to avoid the firestorm of headlines after taxpayers were charged for the Frogmore Cottage renovations the Sussexes completed after their wedding. As a reminder, the couple paid back the funds with the money they earned from their $100 million Netflix deal in 2020. Kate and William are already making plans for their new home, and renovations have already begun. A palace insider also confirmed how happy the couple is to plant roots at Forest Lodge. 'Windsor has become their home,' a source told The Sun. 'However, over the last few years, while they have lived at Adelaide Cottage, there have been some really difficult times. Moving gives them an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter; an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind. This is a move for the long-term. They see it as their forever home.' In July, The Mail on Sunday reported that the Prince and Princess of Wales were eyeing Fort Belvedere to move to. It's a 'gothic-revival mansion nestled in a hidden corner of Windsor Great Park' that was once home to Edward VIII, who abdicated the throne to marry his love, Wallis Simpson. Instead, they chose Forest Lodge, which is a mile down the road from their current residence at Adelaide Cottage. The move comes as the royal couple begins planning their future on the throne as the King and Queen of England. They are adamant about protecting the privacy of their children while taking on a global role at the palace — it's a tricky road to navigate. Liam Gallagher banned from throwing tambourine and maracas into crowd after Oasis gigs

Liam Gallagher claims that he has been banned from throwing his tambourine and maracas into the crowd at the end of Oasis gigs. The ban is said to have been put in place after two men mobbed a female fan and snatched the maracas from her at one of the Live Forever band's Wembley concerts on the Oasis Live '25 Tour. Speaking during one of the Wonderwall group's recent shows at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium, Liam said: "I can't throw my tambourine out tonight or my maracas. "I've been told not to. I'm not being tight or anything like that. Do you know what I mean?" The 52-year-old singer added: "I've just been told, 'Don't do any of that s*** any more', because you don't know how to behave yourselves. "You keep pinching each other on your nipples and ears and f****** s*** like that and kneeing each other in the b*******. "I've been told now." Oasis have made a triumphant return to the stage with their tour this summer as Liam and his older brother Noel Gallagher have put an end to their long-running feud and the Britpop icons are said to have been offered the chance to continue their reunion into 2026 with four shows at Knebworth. The proposed dates would mark the 30th anniversary of the band's seminal concerts at the Hertfordshire venue in 1996 but those close to Oasis stress that nothing has been finalised yet. A source told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: "They've seen the speculation, they've heard about the offers and they know what the fans want. "It's ultimately up for them to decide. The Oasis reunion hasn't just been concerts. You can see that it's been a cultural movement. Nothing comes close in recent history to Oasis's shows. "It's a question of whether Noel and Liam want to draw a line in the sand and close the door on this chapter, knowing they capture the zeitgeist. Or do they strike it up again and keep the magic going? It's a difficult decision to make." Meanwhile, Liam hit out at Edinburgh council bosses during the gig at Murrayfield last week after they described attendees at the concerts as "mainly middle-aged men who take up more room" and having a "medium to high intoxication" level during a safety briefing last year. He said: "One second, where do I start here with everyone at the city council? The f****** slags. "£1 billion pounds we're bringing to this city over the next three days.£1 billion. But you won't see any of it because the Lord Provost will be splitting it between (his) posh ugly f****** mates." Liam added: "We're still waiting [for] a f****** apology."
